Book Synopsis The Ancestor Syndrome by : Anne Ancelin Schutzenberger
Download or read book The Ancestor Syndrome written by Anne Ancelin Schutzenberger and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-25 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Ancestor Syndrome Anne Ancelin Schutzenberger explains and provides clinical examples of her unique psychogenealogical approach to psychotherapy. She shows how, as mere links in a chain of generations, we may have no choice in having the events and traumas experienced by our ancestors visited upon us in our own lifetime. The book includes fascinating case studies and examples of 'genosociograms' (family trees) to illustrate how her clients have conquered seemingly irrational fears, psychological and even physical difficulties by discovering and understanding the parallels between their own life and the lives of their forebears. The theory of 'invisible loyalty' owed to previous generations, which may make us unwittingly re-enact their life events, is discussed in the light of ongoing research into transgenerational therapy. Anne Ancelin Schutzenberger draws on over 20 years of experience as a therapist and analyst and is a well-respected authority, particularly in the field of Group Therapy and Psychodrama. First published as Aie, mes Aieux this fascinating insight into a unique style of clinical work has already sold over 32,000 copies in France and will appeal to anyone working in the psychotherapy profession.

Book Synopsis It Didn't Start with You by : Mark Wolynn
Download or read book It Didn't Start with You written by Mark Wolynn and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2016-04-26 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A groundbreaking approach to transforming traumatic legacies passed down in families over generations, by an acclaimed expert in the field Depression. Anxiety. Chronic Pain. Phobias. Obsessive thoughts. The evidence is compelling: the roots of these difficulties may not reside in our immediate life experience or in chemical imbalances in our brains—but in the lives of our parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents. The latest scientific research, now making headlines, supports what many have long intuited—that traumatic experience can be passed down through generations. It Didn’t Start with You builds on the work of leading experts in post-traumatic stress, including Mount Sinai School of Medicine neuroscientist Rachel Yehuda and psychiatrist Bessel van der Kolk, author of The Body Keeps the Score. Even if the person who suffered the original trauma has died, or the story has been forgotten or silenced, memory and feelings can live on. These emotional legacies are often hidden, encoded in everything from gene expression to everyday language, and they play a far greater role in our emotional and physical health than has ever before been understood. As a pioneer in the field of inherited family trauma, Mark Wolynn has worked with individuals and groups on a therapeutic level for over twenty years. It Didn’t Start with You offers a pragmatic and prescriptive guide to his method, the Core Language Approach. Diagnostic self-inventories provide a way to uncover the fears and anxieties conveyed through everyday words, behaviors, and physical symptoms. Techniques for developing a genogram or extended family tree create a map of experiences going back through the generations. And visualization, active imagination, and direct dialogue create pathways to reconnection, integration, and reclaiming life and health. It Didn’t Start With You is a transformative approach to resolving longstanding difficulties that in many cases, traditional therapy, drugs, or other interventions have not had the capacity to touch.

Book Synopsis Impressionable Biologies by : Maurizio Meloni
Download or read book Impressionable Biologies written by Maurizio Meloni and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the twentieth century, genes were considered the controlling force of life processes, and the transfer of DNA the definitive explanation for biological heredity. Such views shaped the politics of human heredity: in the eugenic era, controlling heredity meant intervening in the distribution of "good" and "bad" genes. However, since the turn of the twenty-first century, this centrality of genes has been challenged by a number of "postgenomic" disciplines. The rise of epigenetics in particular signals a shift from notions of biological fixedness to ideas of plasticity and "impressionability" of biological material. This book investigates a long history of the beliefs about the plasticity of human biology, starting with ancient medicine, and analyses the biopolitical techniques required to govern such permeability. It looks at the emergence of the modern body of biomedicine as a necessary displacement or possibly reconfiguration of earlier plastic views. Finally, it analyses the returning of plasticity to contemporary postgenomic views and argues that postgenomic plasticity is neither a modernistic plasticity of instrumental management of the body nor a postmodernist celebration of potentialities. It is instead a plasticity that disrupts clear boundaries between openness and determination, individual and community, with important implications for notions of risk, responsibility and intervention.

Book Synopsis Mesopotamian Planetary Astronomy-astrology by : David Brown
Download or read book Mesopotamian Planetary Astronomy-astrology written by David Brown and published by Brill. This book was released on 2000 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pliny wrote of Babylon that "here the creator of the science of astronomy was". Excavations have shown this statement to be true. This book argues that the earliest attempts at the accurate prediction of celestial phenomena are indeed to be found in clay tablets dating to the 8th and 7th centuries BC from both Babylon and from Nineveh. The author carefully situates this astronomy within its cultural context, treating all available material from the relevant period, and also analysing the earlier astrological material and the later well-known ephemerides and related texts. A wholly new approach to cuneiform astral concerns emerges - one in which both celestial divination and the later astronomy are shown to be embedded in a prevailing philosophy dealing with the ideal nature of the early universe, and in which the dynamics of the celestial divination industry that surrounded the last Assyrian monarchs account for no less than the first recorded "scientific revolution". This work closely adheres to the original textual sources, and argues for the evolution on the basis of the needs of the ancient scholars and the internal logic of the divinatory and predictive systems employed. To this end, it offers, for the first time, a Mesopotamian contribution to the philosophy, and not only the history, of science.
Book Synopsis The Stars and the Blackness Between Them by : Junauda Petrus
Download or read book The Stars and the Blackness Between Them written by Junauda Petrus and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-06-23 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Coretta Scott King Honor Book Told in two distinct and irresistible voices, Junauda Petrus's bold and lyrical debut is the story of two black girls from very different backgrounds finding love and happiness in a world that seems determined to deny them both. Port of Spain, Trinidad. Sixteen-year-old Audre is despondent, having just found out she's going to be sent to live in America with her father because her strictly religious mother caught her with her secret girlfriend, the pastor's daughter. Audre's grandmother Queenie (a former dancer who drives a white convertible Cadillac and who has a few secrets of her own) tries to reassure her granddaughter that she won't lose her roots, not even in some place called Minneapolis. "America have dey spirits too, believe me," she tells Audre. Minneapolis, USA. Sixteen-year-old Mabel is lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling and trying to figure out why she feels the way she feels--about her ex Terrell, about her girl Jada and that moment they had in the woods, and about the vague feeling of illness that's plagued her all summer. Mabel's reverie is cut short when her father announces that his best friend and his just-arrived-from-Trinidad daughter are coming for dinner. Mabel quickly falls hard for Audre and is determined to take care of her as she tries to navigate an American high school. But their romance takes a turn when test results reveal exactly why Mabel has been feeling low-key sick all summer and suddenly it's Audre who is caring for Mabel as she faces a deeply uncertain future. Junauda Petrus's debut brilliantly captures the distinctly lush and lyrical voices of Mabel and Audre as they conjure a love that is stronger than hatred, prison, and death and as vast as the blackness between the stars.
Book Synopsis Keepers of Memory by : Jennifer Rich

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Keepers of Memory answers the question of how descendants of Holocaust survivors remember the Holocaust, the event that preceded their birth but has shaped their lives. Through personal stories and in-depth interviews, Rich examines the complicated relationship between history, truth, and memory. Keepers of Memory explores topics that include how stories of survival become stories of either empowerment or trauma for the descending generations, career choice as a form of commemoration, religion, and family life. Ultimately, this work paints a compelling picture of the promises and pitfalls of memory and points to implications for memory and commemoration in the coming generations.
Book Synopsis Commentaries on the Laws of the Bible by : James A. Carter
Download or read book Commentaries on the Laws of the Bible written by James A. Carter and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-02-26 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does the individual gain by observing the Laws of Moses? In a word, completeness. By completeness it is meant, the individual’s spiritual side is awakened, and becomes harmonized with his or her physical self. At the ultimate state of spiritual awakening and harmony, the individual acquires supernatural abilities, all of which are innate, but lie dormant. These supernatural abilities reside with his soul, which is eternal. In addition, observing the Laws of Moses allows the individual’s ancestral spirits to guide him or her. Otherwise, he or she is estranged. ‘Supernatural abilities’ does not only mean the capability to turn water into wine and walk on water as Jesus did, or to strike rock and bring forth water like Moses. It means realizing those abilities that are unique to the individual at a supernatural level. However, the problem with aspiring to supernatural capability through observing the Laws is that the practice has to be absolute and regimented. But here are 613 laws of Moses. An individual may not be able to observe all of them, and he or she may not be able to observe some of them to the letter, or to do so consistently. The extent to which the individual observes the Laws is the extent to which he or she is empowered. Put another way, the closer to perfection in practicing the Laws, the closer to supernatural power. Thus, attaining perfection in accordance with the laws should always be aspired to, as the individual grows spiritually. Returning to the concept of guidance from ancestral spirits: When the apostate is ‘cut off from his people’ the trans-generational bonding is severed. There are several effects of this severance. Individuals whose trans-generational bond is severed do not generally concern themselves with societal issues; with the welfare of the next generation, or the harm done to others by his or her actions. Thus, failure to live in accordance with the Laws of Moses results in overall societal degeneration.

Download or read book Tarot Decoded written by Elizabeth Hazel and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2004-05-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most readers interested in tarot own a couple of different decks as well as some tarot "cookbooks" that explain the meaning of the cards and their symbolism--like Cliff Notes for tarot. These tarot tools result in fairly standard, mundane readings. But there is another level to tarot--a level that can turn an ordinary tarot reader into a true adept. Tarot Decoded transforms ordinary tarot readings into readings that are profound and even surprising by explaining the use and significance of tarot dignitaries. Tarot dignitaries are the interaction of the cards with each other in a spread and within a range of correspondences. Tarot author Elizabeth Hazel presents a concise, useable system for working with tarot dignities to add incredible depth to readings. One card placed next to another might not have a readily apparent connection--but interpreting tarot dignities could make it very clear that one card enhances, or hinders, the meaning of another. The same is true for tarot neighborhoods within a spread as well as the entire reading. Using the Tarot Decoded system for working with tarot dignities can take anyone to the next level of tarot reading. The book offers a progressive look at the cards, their dignities, and their correspondences. With Hazel's advice and clear examples--and a little practice--readings take on a new depth, integration, and power.
Download or read book Astrologies written by Nicholas Campion and published by . This book was released on 2011-08-18 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sophia Centre Press is pleased to present in this volume a selection of papers from the 'Astrologies' conference, organised by the Sophia Centre, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and held in Bath on 24-25 July 2010. The range of topics explored in these papers is broad, and reflects the striking diversity of techniques and underlying philosophies infusing an enduring human perception of meaningful relationships between the heavenly bodies and life on earth. The papers are grouped into three basic themes: the symbolism of astrologies, the history of astrologies within different cultural contexts, and the practice of various astrologies from both 'insider' and 'outsider' perspectives. Although astrology has been treated in many scholarly works as a monolithic entity, all of the papers in this book demonstrate one of the paradoxes of astrological thought and practice: the existence of a relatively stable tradition of cosmological and astral representations and ideas combined with an adaptability that has enabled astrologies to meld with different spheres of human endeavour in a variety of cultures.
