Many of world’s most exposed countries to climate change are in Africa, so the focus is on Nigeria. This is because the country’s international obligations towards climate change and its mechanisms for compliance are interestingly complicated. Significant financial resources are required to drive the reduction of greenhouse emissions and adaptation to the adverse effects of climate change. Mobilized from public, private or alternative sources, Climate finance can be defined as the local, national or transnational funding set up to address climate change. However, the solution may not be in the finance, but in the innovation so this notion has laid the groundwork for this paper.

This paper finds that increases in temperature have uneven macroeconomic effects, with adverse consequences concentrated in countries with hot climates, such as most low-income countries. In these countries, a rise in temperature lowers per capita output, in both the short and medium term, through a wide array of channels: reduced agricultural output, suppressed productivity of workers exposed to heat, slower investment, and poorer health. In an unmitigated climate change scenario, and under very conservative assumptions, model simulations suggest the projected rise in temperature would imply a loss of around 9 percent of output for a representative low-income country by 2100.
