Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TPR Storytelling Student Book, English Year 1 is used with with TPR Storytelling Teacher's Guidebook, also by Todd McKay. My name is Todd McKay. I teach middle school students in Pennsylvania. My subject is Spanish and I have been doing this for many years. "Teaching" Spanish is easy but it bothered me that "learning" Spanish is difficult for students. I searched for a way to make the equation equal - that is, learning should be as easy for students as teaching the subject was for me. The answer I discovered is TPR. I discovered this in 1992 during my first year teaching when I felt like I was pounding my head against a wall and was about ready to quit. TPR was CPR for my career. When I tried TPR for the first time, I was thrilled that it actually worked. Within minutes, my beginning students were not listening to "noise" coming from my mouth, but messages they could understand with no translation. It was instant understanding of an "alien" language. They understood and to my amazement, actually enjoyed the learning process. For the first time, I observed students excited to be learning. What happened was this: after three weeks, the novelty wore off. Dr. James J. Asher, the originator of TPR, calls this adaptation. For more on this phenomenon and how to cope with it, read his book Learning Another Language Through Actions, now in the 7th edition, with more than 60,000 copies in print throughout the world. You know that students have adapted (that is, they are no longer responding) when they mutiny with comments such as: "If you ask me to perform one more time, I will throw up in the wastebasket" or "Please, no more. I have a terrible headache." The simple answer, as Dr. Asher recommends, is "Never stay with any novelty too long. Switch to a different activity frequently." One of the "different activities" that worked with my students is storytelling. So what I want to share with you is a technique for switching between two powerful tools, classic TPR and TPR storytelling, to keep the students excited with the learning process. They internalize the target language in chunks rather than word by word memorization. Along the way, I will share other ways to switch activities to guarantee a successful learning experience for your students.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This module introduces Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS), an input-based language teaching method. TPRS provides a framework for teaching classes completely in the target language—even those at the beginner level. Through the steps of establishing meaning, creating a story that is acted out live in class, and reading, students understand and use the target language to communicate right away. Research shows that over time TPRS creates fluent speakers who excel both on traditional tests and—more importantly—in real-life situations. This is a valuable resource on TPRS for world language teachers, language teacher educators, and second language researchers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you know why learning Spanish seems so hard? Because finding the RIGHT reading material for your level is nearly impossible! When you have access to an endless sea of information at your fingertips, the main problem you face is knowing what to focus on. "Where do I start? What books should I learn from? How do I become fluent as quickly as possible" - these questions are all too common. As a new Spanish student the last thing you want to do is waste your time. Learning from confusing books that force you to search for words in a dictionary every 2 minutes is not useful, effective or fun - and you'll soon give up! What's worse is that some of the top rated books here on Amazon sell the promise that their Short Stories are "Beginner Friendly"... ...but all it takes is a few scrolls to read the bad reviews and find out that they most certainly are NOT for beginners! This book is different... Spanish Short Stories for Beginners offers 25 easy-to-read, engaging short stories that will not only entertain you, but also give you a feeling of progress when reading - all while expanding your vocabulary and arming you with the tools to improve your Spanish effortlessly! How Spanish Short Stories Works: * Each story covers a set of useful real-world vocabulary, presented through a fun and entertaining story with authentic dialogues and day-to-day scenarios. (Asking for Directions, Shopping, Greetings, Basic Verbs etc.) * The vocabulary is bolded so you can easily see which words the lesson is focusing on. * A full plot summary follows the short story, both in Spanish and in English, so you can see if you understood what it was about. * After the summary you'll find a list of the important vocabulary in the lesson (arranged alphabetically) with full English translation - in case you did not understand them at first glance! * Finally, you'll be provided with a comprehension quiz to test you knowledge and see what you have learned. * Don't worry if you don't know the answers - they are provided shortly after, but remember... no cheating! Why choose this book over the others? * Twenty-five engaging short stories, more than any other book on Amazon - more variety equals more fun! * ACTUALLY for beginners - a controlled vocabulary mapped at the A1 level that's fits your language needs. * A Focus on the 1000 most frequently used words - the only words you need to become fluent. * Real-world scenarios - making it easier for you to use what you've learned in everyday life. * A bolded glossary that is arranged alphabetically - making it quick and easily find the vocabulary that you are stuck on. * Accessible grammar - so you can learn structure naturally, in a stress free way. So look no further - click that " Add To Cart" Button and get ready to accelerate your journey to fluency right now!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ¡Hola! Hello! Did you understand this first Spanish word? Yes, you did! Why? Because it was presented to you using a new technique that is making learning languages easier than ever – the Bilingual Reading. We created this book using this technique so that you can learn Spanish in a fast and fun way and whenever you want. How does this work? It is simple: Bilingual Reading works by reading two versions of the same book or text at once. One version will be on the language you want to learn (in this case we will help you to learn Spanish) and the other version will be in your native language or some other language you are comfortable with – here we will use English. Using this method, you will quickly start discovering the meaning of the words in Spanish and accumulating vocabulary that will soon allow you to read texts that are more complex without having to spend hours and hours looking for every word meaning on a dictionary and trying hard to memorize it. In order to make it easier for you to learn Spanish in a fun way, we gathered in a word a very special group of 12 Spanish short stories. These 12 Spanish short stories for beginners were written using straightforward grammar that is comprehensible for beginners and that will help you rapidly gain more Spanish vocabulary and comprehension. Using Spanish English parallel text, this book will increase your bilingual reading comprehension skills and maximize the time you invest in reading. The book is organized as a Spanish learning book: you can start by reading each paragraph of each story in the two languages (in Spanish English parallel text), then move to read the full story in each language, rereading to consolidate the Spanish fundamentals whenever is necessary. This way you will feel the progress of Spanish language learning when moving from story to story and see your Spanish vocabulary grow as your bilingual reading comprehension increases - allows you to learn Spanish easily and more than that, you can learn Spanish in a fast and fun way. You can even dedicate it a few moments every day so you can even learn Spanish in 10 minutes a day if you want! Let’s Start? The Volume 2 is also available! Get it also to learn even more words in Spanish, with 10 new short stories!

Book excerpt: Have you read or heard about TPRS, but don't quite know where to begin? A little hesitant about teaching a "hard" language like Chinese using Comprehensible Input? TPRS with Chinese Characteristics summarizes fifteen years of teaching Chinese using TPRS/CI. Focused on classroom practice, the book presents tested, effective strategies and skills that will allow you to leave the myth of Chinese as a "difficult" language far behind your students. From tones, Pinyin, and reading instruction to writing prompts and output, TPRS with Chinese Characteristics fills in the gap between "traditional" Spanish- and French-focused TPRS training and the special challenges faced by students of Chinese.
