The first book in the Torn Series. Chloe hasn’t had the easiest childhood. With a mother who was absent most of the time, she practically had to raise herself. Determined to start a new life and leave her demons behind, she heads to West Virginia University with her best friends Amber and Logan. On the first day of classes, she spots a student who takes her breath away. Drake is a pierced, tattooed bad boy, and no matter how hard she tries to fight it, he’s all she can think about. Drake has never cared about anyone other than himself, but when Chloe grabs the empty seat next to him in class, he is instantly drawn to her. Drake is left wondering whether this girl can take his cold, womanizing heart and alter him forever. Developing feelings for each other was never a part of their plan, and when it happens, things do anything but fall into place. Long-hidden emotions are revealed and friendships are tested to the brink as Chloe and Drake become helplessly entwined in each other’s love.

Book excerpt: "A gorgeous weave of romantic fantasy and urgent politics." —Anna Smith Spark, author of The Court of Broken Knives In an enchanting world of sartorial sorcery, court intrigue, and revolutionary royals, a charm caster finds herself torn between loyalty to her brother and her love for a nobleman as a rebellion sweeps the land in this French Revolution-inspired debut historical fantasy. Sophie, a dressmaker and charm caster, has lifted her family out of poverty with a hard-won reputation for beautiful ball gowns and discreetly embroidered spells. A commission from the royal family could secure her future -- and thrust her into a dangerous new world. Revolution is brewing. As Sophie's brother, Kristos, rises to prominence in the growing anti-monarchist movement, it is only a matter of time before their fortunes collide. When the unrest erupts into violence, she and Kristos are drawn into a deadly magical plot. Sophie is torn—between her family and her future. In a time of revolution, everyone must take a side. Praise for The Unraveled Kingdom: “Miller places immigrant ambition and women’s lives at the heart of her magical tale of politics and revolution. I was utterly enchanted by this unique, clever, and subtly fierce fantasy. —Tasha Suri, author of The Jasmine Throne “Strong research, moral ambiguities, and an innovative magic system....A well-executed historical fantasy debut whose author has a sharp eye for detail.” —Kirkus “Miller weaves a fresh, richly textured world full of magic-stitched ball gowns and revolutionary pamphlets. The vivid, complex setting and deeply human characters make for an absorbing read!” —Melissa Caruso, author of The Obsidian Tower The Unraveled Kingdom Torn Rule Fray

Book excerpt: My life of crime started early. I can remember stealing a red squirt gun from the local grocery store at the age of nine. As the years went by, my criminal actions grew bigger and bolder, which eventually led to juvenile hall then prison. Throughout my time while incarcerated, I noticed that the term dog eat dog or only the strong survive applied to daily life in jail, and it was usually the physically bigger that commanded respect, although there were many that had a great deal of respect because they had the bigger heart; however, it was often the ones that were in shapeor, as I like to say, riot ready, who ran the show. It wasnt hard for me to make my choice. I have always been a leader, so I began to exercise vigorously every day. I also sought out any and all information concerning natural bodybuilding. Surprisingly, the more I learned, the more I realized how much I had previously known, and I also realized that the majority of people exercising didnt have a clue as to what they were doing. So I decided to really get serious about learning the ins and outs of fitness. I took a correspondence course on fitness. I found advertisements in the back of a fitness magazine. That was when my body began to really transform. My body grew more in one year than it had grown in several years of exercise. It was very clear that knowledge is power! Since then I have made it my mission to educate and motivate others. I know from experience that its not easy to get in shape while incarcerated. Prisons in California no longer have free weights, and the food is of low quality, but if you really want to get in shape, it can be done. In this book, I have simplified the complex world of fitness. By no means will it be easy, but it is very possible to get in the best shape of your life without weights or supplements. The term no hurt, no big shirt does apply because in order to build your body up, you must first break it down. If you are not willing to push your body to new limits, then you should put this book down now. This book is only for people who are dedicated to fitness and willing to sacrifice to get it. If thats you, then welcome to the world of fitness and health. In this book, you will learn how to exercise properly to achieve maximum growth while you obtain the shredded look coveted by many. You will also learn how to manufacture your own fitness equipment from ordinary objects found around your cell or your home. Finally, you will learn about proper nutrition. If you truly have the willpower and determination, then you will achieve amazing results. Good luck! Brandon Caine

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dennis Hale reached the dock just in time to see the Daniel J. Morrell heading out to open waters, a 600-foot freighter that had plied the waters for sixty years, carrying ore from Minnesota’s Iron Range to steel firms around the Great Lakes. The twenty-six-year-old watchman had, quite literally, missed the boat—which meant scrambling to rejoin the Morrell at its next stop or forfeiting a good chunk of his pay package. Seventy-two hours later, Hale would find himself clinging to a life raft alongside the frozen bodies of his crewmates in the violent waves of Lake Huron. The boat would not be reported missing for another twenty-seven hours and by the time the life raft was found, Dennis Hale would remain as the sole survivor of the wreck of the Daniel J. Morrell. This is life-and-death drama on the inland sea as only Michael Schumacher can tell it. In Torn in Two the great Lakes historian recreates the circumstances surrounding the terrible storm of November 29, 1966, that broke the mighty freighter in half, sending twenty-five of the Morrell’s twenty-nine-man crew to their deaths and consigning the surviving four to the freezing raft where all but Hale would perish. At the heart of Torn in Two are the terrible hours spent by Hale on the life raft with his crewmen, clinging to life for thirty-eight hours in freezing temperatures and wearing only a peacoat, life jacket, and boxer shorts. The fight to save Hale and find the others, the Coast Guard hearings into what happened, the discovery of the wreckage—Schumacher’s vivid narrative captures every harrowing detail and curious fact of the Morrell’s demise, finally doing justice to this epic shipwreck fifty years past.
