Download or read book Grammar written by Rachel Grenon and published by Bloomsbury USA. This book was released on 2012-10-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the ancient scholarly curriculum, grammar formed part of the Trivium, with its sister sciences of logic and rhetoric. Logic asks: When is a sentence true? Rhetoric asks: Which is the right sentence? Grammar purely asks: When is a sentence correct? In Grammar, Rachel Grenon defines the rules governing the construction of words, phrases, sentences, and extended text or speech. Beginning with the rules behind ancient languages such as Sanskrit and Greek, she then focuses on how the rules of English have developed-from nouns and pronouns, verbs and adverbs, to tenses, the passive voice, questions, imperatives, and much more. With diagrams, engravings, and witty cartoon illustrations, this original take on a classic subject is essential for anyone interested in language.

The two main characters, Mollie Sands and Jim Owens, have a long and stormy relationship over the eleven years. Mollie, an Alaskan woman who has to survive more hurt than most people ever expect to. Jim, a former Military Intelligence Officer and finally a CIA operative of much merit. After having hurt each other significantly several times the relationship falls apart for several years. During these years the two of them continue to work together. Jim has several relationships with other women during this time. Mollie has to contend with all that while still loving him. This is a detailed writing about the work they were involved in during the eleven years and all the hurts Mollie endured. It goes deeply into the thinking of some of the characters, revealing their weaknesses and fears as well as some of their strengths. One might ask why a woman would tolerate all that Mollied did and still keep her sanity? And why would she tolerate all the other things he did with other women and not completely dismiss him from her life? And why would she insist he tell her all the details of everything he did, knowing she would suffer tremendously? The amazing thing is that she seems to have kept her sanity while struggling mightly within herself. Happenings brought on by themselves, the KGB, and their own organization, the CIA. There is love; there are assassinations, much intrigue, loneliness, loss of several close friends as the CIA and the KGB battle each other. It is set in Alaska, but takes place in many parts of the world. It is very detailed and is a compelling story, one worthy of much psychological investigation and thought.

Itreprimands the apathy and aloofness displayed by world citizens- especially those in positions of influence such as leaders, mediaorganizations or civil society - towards the real causes and effectsof the kind of change the world has witnessed. The author takes issue with the tradition that heaps all blame onthe Almighty or on some nebulous fate whenever an event with aworld headline occurs. He seeks to remove masks from the facesof the masses that for ages have been veiled by carefully craftedimpressions of those who engineer such acts. From Africa to Europe, from America to the rest of the world, fromthe dingy and dusty rural corners to the bedrooms andboardrooms of presidential palaces, this book lays bare themysteries that should have been trumpeted from rooftops longtime age. With this book around, the citizens of the world - a shrinkinginterconnected global village today - can at least be vigilant withthe way their nations are governed. This way, citizens can keep a scorecard oftheir leaders and their moves and demand sanity where it lacks
