Warning: Includes a charming hot mess of a demon hero, delightfully snarky banter, lots of F-bombs, spicy AF steamy scenes, and a well-behaved witch who learns to cut loose. One night. That’s all they need to get each other out of their systems. At least according to demon Tallak when he suggests a night of no-holds-barred bed sport to witch Hazel Murray. Tallak’s goals in life are simple—after more than 20 years in a fae dungeon, he just wants to relish his freedom and build a healthy relationship with Basil, the son he’d presumed dead. Having the hots for the witch who raised Basil? Bad idea. Opposite of simple. As Elder witch and head of her family, Hazel has enough on her plate trying to keep the witch community from splintering after the end of the war. Lusting after the biological father of her adopted son is the last thing she needs. Especially since that father is a recent prison escapee demon with a questionable moral compass. A responsible witch and mother would steer clear. But Hazel has been so good for so long…maybe it’s time to be just a little bit bad. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her analysis of the cultural construction of gender in early America, Elizabeth Reis explores the intersection of Puritan theology, Puritan evaluations of womanhood, and the Salem witchcraft episodes. She finds in those intersections the basis for understanding why women were accused of witchcraft more often than men, why they confessed more often, and why they frequently accused other women of being witches. In negotiating their beliefs about the devil's powers, both women and men embedded womanhood in the discourse of depravity.Puritan ministers insisted that women and men were equal in the sight of God, with both sexes equally capable of cleaving to Christ or to the devil. Nevertheless, Reis explains, womanhood and evil were inextricably linked in the minds and hearts of seventeenth-century New England Puritans. Women and men feared hell equally but Puritan culture encouraged women to believe it was their vile natures that would take them there rather than the particular sins they might have committed.Following the Salem witchcraft trials, Reis argues, Puritans' understanding of sin and the devil changed. Ministers and laity conceived of a Satan who tempted sinners and presided physically over hell, rather than one who possessed souls in the living world. Women and men became increasingly confident of their redemption, although women more than men continued to imagine themselves as essentially corrupt, even after the Great Awakening.

Book excerpt: Warning: Contains a hero who's Tall, Dark, and Possessive, and may melt your heart as well as your reading device. Handle with care and a bucket of ice water nearby. And maybe some tissues. His hunger for power knows no bounds...until she binds his heart. To keep an ill-fated bargain, witch Maeve MacKenna surrenders herself to the scheming Demon Lord Arawn. He's dangerous, arrogant, ruthless, and dominant-everything she should despise in a male, especially after the torture by another demon left scars on her body and soul. She should tremble with terror in Arawn's presence. So why does he make her shiver for entirely different reasons? And awaken parts of her body she believed numb after her assault? Arawn gets what Arawn wants. But when the witch he's been coveting-for the ancient magic bound inside her-walks into his lair, what should have been simple and straightforward becomes uncomfortably complicated as his interest in her...shifts. A dance of power and attraction begins amid a looming outside threat-because Maeve is not the only one with an age-old force stirring inside her, and the Demon Lord's rivals are all-too eager to seize that kind of power...

Book excerpt: Hellishly Ever After is the first installment in a new paranormal romance series by award-winning author Nadine Mutas. If you love laugh-out-loud funny enemies-to-lovers stories with enough heat to burn up the pages, you don’t want to miss this book! Ever held a seance and accidentally trapped a demon into marriage? No takers? Just me? Crap. Marriage is my idea of hell, at least until the day an unfairly hot demon shows up in my apartment and drags me to actual Hell—as his wife. I’d honestly rather have a root canal without sedation than marry anyone, least of all a surly—even if damnably attractive—demon. But I’m bound to the contract stupid Teenage Me made with Azazel when I accidentally summoned and trapped him into marriage, to be consummated if I were still single at twenty-five. I’d forgotten all about it. He hasn’t. And now he’s here to claim me. Neither of us is thrilled about this marriage-of-inconvenience, but what I hate even more than the idea of being married...is being ignored. So when Azazel intends to park me out of sight and mind at the other end of his estate in Hell, I make it my newly eternal life’s mission to be as much of a real inconvenience to him as possible. It’s all fun and games, until I find a soul that shouldn’t be in Hell, stumble smack-dab into the middle of a demon family feud…and the banter between me and Azazel turns so hot it might consume me. Book excerpt: It is a historical phenomenon that while thousands of women were being burnt as witches in early modern Europe, the English - although there were a few celebrated trials and executions, one of which the play dramatises - were not widely infected by the witch-craze. The stage seems to have provided an outlet for anxieties about witchcraft, as well as an opportunity for public analysis. The Witch of Edmonton (1621) manifests this fundamentally reasonable attitude, with Dekker insisting on justice for the poor and oppressed, Ford providing psychological character studies, and Rowley the clowning. The village community of Edmonton feels threatened by two misfits, Old Mother Sawyer, who has turned to the devil to aid her against her unfeeling neighbours, and Frank, who refuses to marry the woman of his father's choice and ends up murdering her. This edition shows how the play generates sympathy for both and how contemporaries would have responded to its presentation of village life and witchcraft.

This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the first systematic study of the role of the Devil in English witchcraft pamphlets for the entire period of state-sanctioned witchcraft prosecutions (1563-1735). It provides a rereading of English witchcraft, one which moves away from an older historiography which underplays the role of the Devil in English witchcraft and instead highlights the crucial role that the Devil, often in the form of a familiar spirit, took in English witchcraft belief. One of the key ways in which this book explores the role of the Devil is through emotions. Stories of witches were made up of a complex web of emotionally implicated accusers, victims, witnesses, and supposed perpetrators. They reveal a range of emotional experiences that do not just stem from malefic witchcraft but also, and primarily, from a witch’s links with the Devil. This book, then, has two main objectives. First, to suggest that English witchcraft pamphlets challenge our understanding of English witchcraft as a predominantly non-diabolical crime, and second, to highlight how witchcraft narratives emphasized emotions as the primary motivation for witchcraft acts and accusations.

Book excerpt: The classic collaboration from the internationally bestselling authors Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, soon to be an original series starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant. ?Season 2 of Good Omens coming soon! “Good Omens . . . is something like what would have happened if Thomas Pynchon, Tom Robbins and Don DeLillo had collaborated. Lots of literary inventiveness in the plotting and chunks of very good writing and characterization. It’s a wow. It would make one hell of a movie. Or a heavenly one. Take your pick.” —Washington Post According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist . . .
