Download or read book The Curse Removed written by Dan Salter and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-08-18 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The atonement is the central doctrine of our Christian faith. Today’s most popular model—penal substitution—presumes Jesus took on the guilt of sins to pay for them with his death. But that courtroom scenario, lacking justice and open-armed forgiveness, is riddled with questions of how guilt is transferred and why punishing another for a crime is just. The recent revival of Christus Victor and mimetic atonement theories may properly deny the Father-to-Son wrath of penal substitution, but they, too, fall short in explaining the transference of the victory of Jesus’s atonement to the sinner who needs rescue. Addressing these problems, Dan Salter’s biblically faithful recast of a redemptive atonement highlights both our human physical essence and our spiritual identity as the beneficiaries of God’s restoration. True justice and forgiveness can occur only with The Curse Removed.

Book Synopsis Cursing the Christians? by : Ruth Langer
Download or read book Cursing the Christians? written by Ruth Langer and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2012-01-12 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ruth Langer offers an in-depth study of the birkat haminim, a Jewish prayer for the removal of those categories of human being who prevent the messianic redemption and the society envisioned for it. In its earliest form, the prayer cursed Christians, apostates to Christianity, sectarians, and enemies of Israel. Drawing on the shifting liturgical texts, polemics, and apologetics concerning the prayer, Langer traces the transformation of the birkat haminim from what functioned without question in the medieval world as a Jewish curse of Christians, through its early modern censorship by Christians, to its modern transformation within the Jewish world into a general petition that God remove evil from the world. Christian censorship played a crucial role in this transformation of the prayer; however, Langer argues that the truest transformation in meaning resulted from Jewish integration into Western culture. Eventually, the prayer shed its references to any specific category of human being and lost its function as a curse. Reconciliation between Jews and Christians today requires both communities to confront a long history of prejudice. Ruth Langer shows through the birkat haminim how the history of one liturgical text chronicled Jewish thinking about Christians over hundreds of years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Norbert H. Kox has researched the Bible in its original languages for more than 30 years, and presents his startling findings here. a Modern Christianity has been duped. Without ever knowing it, the Antichrist they are warning against has already infiltrated the Church.a The Key of knowledge has been hidden and the names of God and Saviour gradually removed from common use without raising suspicion or inciting controversy. The two most important names in the history of mankind have been all but obliterated from existence. Where these names are still in tact they are being undermined, by missionaries who believe they are doing a service to God. This treatise is part of a documented research study into the historical linguistic changes in the names of God and Saviour, from the oldest known manuscripts to the modern present-day English versions of the Bible. Along with solid historical and etymological evidence, symmetrical Bible codes are presented as irrefutable ratification.

Book Synopsis God, Evolution, and Animal Suffering by : Bethany N. Sollereder
Download or read book God, Evolution, and Animal Suffering written by Bethany N. Sollereder and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-29 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859, theologians were faced with the dilemma of God creating through evolution. Suddenly, pain, suffering, untimely death and extinction appeared to be the very tools of creation, and not a result of the sin of humanity. Despite this paradigm shift, the question of non-human suffering has been largely overlooked within theodicy debates, overwhelmed by the extreme human suffering of the twentieth century. This book redresses this imbalance by offering a rigorous academic treatment of the questions surrounding God and the suffering of non-human animals. Combining theological, philosophical, and biblical perspectives, this book explores the relationship between God and Creation within Christian theology. First it dismantles the popular theological view that roots violence and suffering in the animal kingdom in the fall of humanity. Then, through an exploration of the nature of love, it affirms that there are multiple reasons to suggest that God and creation can both be "good", even with the presence of violence and suffering. This is an innovative exploration of an under-examined subject that encompasses issues of theology, science, morality and human-animal interactions. As such, it will be of keen interest to scholars and academics of religion and science, the philosophy of religion, theodicy, and biblical studies.

Book Synopsis The Curse of the Appropriate Man by : Lynn Freed
Download or read book The Curse of the Appropriate Man written by Lynn Freed and published by HMH. This book was released on 2004-09-01 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A stunning and satisfying volume” of short stories about women and their relationships, from a winner of the Katherine Anne Porter Prize (Booklist). This collection of short fiction deals with the struggles between mothers and their wayward daughters, the often preposterous bonds that tie men and women together, and the complex games masters and servants play with one another. Whether describing a mother mired in senile dementia in “Ma,” a young girl’s loss of innocence with an itinerant knife-sharpener in “Under the House,” or a young woman incapable of conventional love in “An Error of Desire,” Lynn Freed portrays the absurdity, the delusions, the dramas, and the dignity of her characters’ lives. “Women’s relationships—with their mothers, their lovers, their culture and their own sexuality—are the subject of the 14 stories in this fine collection. Freed . . . creates achingly real women and lovingly rendered misfits, and she reports straightforwardly and without judgment on their unconventional urges and questionable decisions.” —Publishers Weekly
