Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Thermodynamic Tables of the Fluid State Helium-4 presents the IUPAC Thermodynamic Tables for the thermodynamic properties of helium. The IUPAC Thermodynamic Tables Project has therefore encouraged the critical analysis of the available thermodynamic measurements for helium and their synthesis into tables. This book is divided into three chapters. The first chapter discusses the experimental results and compares with the equations used to generate the tables. These equations are supplemented by a vapor pressure equation, which represents the 1958 He-4 scale of temperature that is defined in terms of the vapor pressure of helium-4. The second chapter are devoted to various equation of state used for the determination of thermodynamic properties. The third chapter contains IUPAC Tables, including their construction, limits, use, and accuracy. This book will be of value to physical chemists and researchers in the field.

Book excerpt: This bibliography of the mechanical, thermodynamic and transport properties of oxygen below 0°C presents 325 references and is the result of a thorough search of the world's scientific and engineering literature. In addition to searching abstracting journals and bibliographies, the authors reviewed each document for property data and for additional references. Listed for each reference are the properties and the corresponding temperature and pressure range, together with additional pertinent information such as type of data (i.e., whether the data are derived from experimental measurements, theoretical considerations or as a compilation from other sources), the form and amount of data, etc. An index according to property, sub-indexed for temperature and pressure ranges, and an author index are included.

This book was released on 1961 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pressure, volume, temperature, internal energy, enthalpy, and entropy of normal hydrogen gas have been tabulated along isobars temperature to 300°K and from a pressure of 1 to 100 atmospheres. The source of data is the Research Paper 1932 of the National Bureau of Standards Journal of Research. The method is described by which the data presented in Research Paper 1932 is reduced to properties directly useful for engineering calculations. A method is also described for estimating the effect of ortho-para compositions upon the tabulated properties. Tabular values are presented in the dimensional units of the metric system. The tabulations are also available in the dimensional units of the British system as Technical Note no. 120, Supplement A.

This book was released on 1960 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The real-gas hypersonic flow parameters for helium have been calculated for stagnation temperatures from 0 F to 600 F and stagnation pressures up to 6,000 pounds per square inch absolute. The results of these calculations are presented in the form of simple correction factors which must be applied to the tabulated ideal-gas parameters. It has been shown that the deviations from the ideal-gas law which exist at high pressures may cause a corresponding significant error in the hypersonic flow parameters when calculated as an ideal gas. For example the ratio of the free-stream static to stagnation pressure as calculated from the thermodynamic properties of helium for a stagnation temperature of 80 F and pressure of 4,000 pounds per square inch absolute was found to be approximately 13 percent greater than that determined from the ideal-gas tabulation with a specific heat ratio of 5/3.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Thermophysical Properties of Helium-4 From 0. 8 to 1500 K With Pressures to 2000 Mpa In these expressions, the temperature is expressed in Kelvins and the density is expressed in kilograms per cubic meter. For temperatures between T A and tm, the calculated state property is a linearly temperature-dependent weighted average of the state properties calculated from the hei and Hell equations. Thus, in the overlap region, the various calculated thermodynamic properties are not exactly consistent with one another; e. G. The Maxwell relations are only approximate, the numerical integral of CP along an isobar is not exactly the tabulated enthalpy difference, etc. In practice, the errors are on the order of 3 percent or less in the compressed liquid for pressures up to about mpa, but rise to 20 percent or more as the melting line is approached. The problem of obtaining thermodynamic consistency in this overlap region is compounded by the general lack of experimental data in this region, especially at higher pressures. Book excerpt: Tabular summary data of the thermophysical properties of fluid helium are given for temperatures from 0.8 to 1500 K, with pressures to 2000 MPa between 75 and 300 K, or to 100 MPa outside of this temperature band. Properties include density, specific heats, enthalpy, entropy, internal energy, sound velocity, expansivity, compressibility, thermal conductivity, and viscosity. The data are calculated from a computer program which is available from the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The computer program is based on carefully fitted state equations for both normal and superfluid helium. Arp, Vincent D. and Mccarty, Robert D. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work was begun quite some time ago at the University of Oxford during the tenure of an Overseas Scholarship of the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 and was completed at Banga lore when the author was being supported by a maintenance allowance from the CSIR Pool for unemployed scientists. It is hoped that significant developments taking place as late as the beginning of 1965 have been incorporated. The initial impetus and inspiration for the work came from Dr. K. Mendelssohn. To him and to Drs. R. W. Hill and N. E. Phillips, who went through the whole of the text, the author is obliged in more ways than one. For permission to use figures and other materials, grateful thanks are tendered to the concerned workers and institutions. The author is not so sanguine as to imagine that all technical and literary flaws have been weeded out. If others come across them, they may be charitably brought to the author's notice as proof that physics has become too vast to be comprehended by a single onlooker. E. S.
