Book Synopsis Thermal Stress Analyses by : D. J. Johns
Download or read book Thermal Stress Analyses written by D. J. Johns and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal Stress Analyses deals with both elastic and plastic thermal stresses produced from large variations in temperature and thermal expansion in materials whose properties are time-independent. This book is composed of eight chapters. The opening chapter illustrates the general three-dimensional thermoelastic problem, which requires the determination of stress, strains and displacements, when the body forces and boundary conditions are known while the next chapter demonstrate a simpler, two-dimensional formulation involving plane strain and plane stress. The succeeding five chapters describe thermal stresses in various structures, including in thin plates, beams, circular cylinders, and shells. The closing chapters consider the mechanism of thermal buckling and sundry design problems. This book is of value to mechanical engineers, and to mechanical engineering teachers and students.
Book Synopsis Monitoring of Thermal Stresses and Heating Optimization Including Industrial Applications by : Jan Taler
Download or read book Monitoring of Thermal Stresses and Heating Optimization Including Industrial Applications written by Jan Taler and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2016 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind farms and other renewable energy sources are characterized by the high unpredictability of generated power as a function of time. When the wind velocity decreases, the power generation diminishes rapidly. To offset the loss of power in the energy system, thermal power plants should be designed for quick start-ups and shutdowns, i.e., the flexibility of thermal power units should be improved. The pressure and temperature of the working fluid in the boiler should be increased quickly, so as to shorten the start-up of the boiler. The subject of the book is inverse heat transfer problems occurring in the monitoring of thermal stress in pressurized thick-walled components. New methods of determining the optimum time variations of fluid temperature during heating and cooling of the pressure parts in thermal power plants are presented. A new technique for measuring the transient temperature of fluid flowing in the pipeline are also presented. Numerous examples that illustrate the practical application of theoretical methods developed are presented as well. The book is meant for engineers, researchers, and scientists. It can also benefit the students of technical universities. The book may be helpful to manufacturers of large power boilers and users of thermal power plants, both conventional and nuclear.

Book Synopsis Modelling and Control of Electric Power Plants by : C. Maffezzoni
Download or read book Modelling and Control of Electric Power Plants written by C. Maffezzoni and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modelling and Control of Electric Power Plants focuses on the modeling and simulation of thermal and nuclear units; the methods and technologies of advanced control systems that are applied in power stations; the design and analysis of man-machine systems; and the processes in power generation. Contained in the book are the literature of contributors who have done research on design and operation of electric power plants. The book begins with the development of models of electric power plants and nuclear power plants. Simulations, analysis, and studies are conducted to test the processes and controls that are instituted in the operations of these plants. Another part of the discussion focuses on the control mechanisms that are employed in plants. These computer control systems are deemed essential in the operations of these plants. The role that computers play in plants is noted, which is particularly observed in the operation of equipment, control of conditions, and application of operational processes in these areas. Some of the areas in which modeling is carried out include electric power plants, fossil fuel power plants, boilers, and coal plants. The discussions can be a source of information to those interested in the design, control, and operation of power plants.

Book Synopsis Thermal Stresses IV by : R.B. Hetnarski
Download or read book Thermal Stresses IV written by R.B. Hetnarski and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-05-10 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth volume of the handbook Thermal Stresses. Following the principles established when the first volume was published in 1986, the fourth volume consists of six separate chapters prepared by specialists in the field. Each chapter is devoted to a different topic in the area of Thermal Stresses. Many results have been published for the first time in Thermal Stresses IV. The exposition of the material is on the state-of-the art level, which should be appropriate for graduate students, researchers, and engineers specializing in the field of stress analysis. In most cases the material is presented with some historical perspective. A large number of references provided will allow the readers to augment their knowledge, after studying a particular chapter.
Book Synopsis Nuclear Energy for Hydrogen Generation through Intermediate Heat Exchangers by : Bahman Zohuri
Download or read book Nuclear Energy for Hydrogen Generation through Intermediate Heat Exchangers written by Bahman Zohuri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes recent technological developments in next generation nuclear reactors that have created renewed interest in nuclear process heat for industrial applications. The author’s discussion mirrors the industry’s emerging focus on combined cycle Next Generation Nuclear Plants’ (NGNP) seemingly natural fit in producing electricity and process heat for hydrogen production. To utilize this process heat, engineers must uncover a thermal device that can transfer the thermal energy from the NGNP to the hydrogen plant in the most performance efficient and cost effective way possible. This book is written around that vital quest, and the author describes the usefulness of the Intermediate Heat Exchanger (IHX) as a possible solution. The option to transfer heat and thermal energy via a single-phase forced convection loop where fluid is mechanically pumped between the heat exchangers at the nuclear and hydrogen plants is presented, and challenges associated with this tactic are discussed. As a second option, heat pipes and thermosyphons, with their ability to transport very large quantities of heat over relatively long distance with small temperature losses, are also examined.
