Book excerpt: Information on the electromagnetic form factors of the neutron is obtained from the theory of inelastic electrondeuteron scattering. Problems in the analysis of these experiments that are related to the detailed structure of the deuteron and to the strong final state interactions between the emergent nucleons are considered. Problems arising from an ambiguity in the sign of the Dirac or charge form factor are also discussed. (C.E.S.).

Book Synopsis Electron-deuteron Scattering in a Relativistic Theory of Hadrons by :
Download or read book Electron-deuteron Scattering in a Relativistic Theory of Hadrons written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author reviews a three-dimensional formalism that provides a systematic way to include relativistic effects including relativistic kinematics, the effects of negative-energy states, and the boosts of the two-body system in calculations of two-body bound-states. He then explains how to construct a conserved current within this relativistic three-dimensional approach. This general theoretical framework is specifically applied to electron-deuteron scattering both in impulse approximation and when the[rho][pi][gamma] meson-exchange current is included. The experimentally-measured quantities A, B, and T[sub 20] are calculated over the kinematic range that is probed in Jefferson Lab experiments. The role of both negative-energy states and meson retardation appears to be small in the region of interest.
Book Synopsis Elastic Scattering of High Energy Electrons from Deuterium by : Edwin Francis Erickson
Download or read book Elastic Scattering of High Energy Electrons from Deuterium written by Edwin Francis Erickson and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purposes of the present work are: (1) To investigate the method of elastic electron-deuteron scattering by detection of the recoil target nucleus. (2) To evaluate existing theory for the scattering process in light of the recent advances in understanding nucleon structure and the nuclear force. (3) To provide experimental data at values of the momentum transfer where none had previously existed. Some fundamental preliminary considerations are discussed in Chapter II. Chapter III contains a summary of theoretical aspects of the problem and results of calculation. Some basic experimental questions are answered in Chapter IV. In Chapter V the experimental apparatus is described. The data, method of analysis, and corrections are discussed in Chapter VI. In the last chapter a comparison of the experimental results with theoretical predictions is made, and conclusions and suggestions for further work are given.

Book Synopsis Quantum Theory of Scattering by : Ta-you Wu
Download or read book Quantum Theory of Scattering written by Ta-you Wu and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2014-01-15 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses the broad formal aspects and applications of the quantum theory of scattering in atomic and nuclear collisions. An encyclopedic source of pioneering work, it serves as a text for students and a reference for professionals in the fields of chemistry, physics, and astrophysics. The self-contained treatment begins with the general theory of scattering of a particle by a central field. Subsequent chapters explore particle scattering by a non-central field, collisions between composite particles, the time-dependent theory of scattering, and nuclear reactions. An examination of dispersion relations concludes the text. Numerous graphs, tables, and footnotes illuminate each chapter, in addition to helpful appendixes and bibliographies.

Book Synopsis Parity-Violating Electron Deuteron Scattering and the Proton's Neutral Weak Axial Vector Form Factor by :
Download or read book Parity-Violating Electron Deuteron Scattering and the Proton's Neutral Weak Axial Vector Form Factor written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 102003 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on a new measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in quasielastic electron scattering from the deuteron at backward angles at Q2 = 0.038 (GeV/c)2. This quantity provides a determination of the neutral weak axial vector form factor of the nucleon, which can potentially receive large electroweak corrections. The measured asymmetry A = z3.51±0.57 (stat)±0.58 (syst) ppm is consistent with theoretical predictions. We also report on updated results of the previous experiment at Q2 = 0.091 (GeV/c)2, which are also consistent with theoretical predictions.
Book Synopsis Variational Methods in Electron-Atom Scattering Theory by : Robert K. Nesbet
Download or read book Variational Methods in Electron-Atom Scattering Theory written by Robert K. Nesbet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation of scattering phenomena is a major theme of modern physics. A scattered particle provides a dynamical probe of the target system. The practical problem of interest here is the scattering of a low energy electron by an N-electron atom. It has been difficult in this area of study to achieve theoretical results that are even qualitatively correct, yet quantitative accuracy is often needed as an adjunct to experiment. The present book describes a quantitative theoretical method, or class of methods, that has been applied effectively to this problem. Quantum mechanical theory relevant to the scattering of an electron by an N-electron atom, which may gain or lose energy in the process, is summarized in Chapter 1. The variational theory itself is presented in Chapter 2, both as currently used and in forms that may facilitate future applications. The theory of multichannel resonance and threshold effects, which provide a rich structure to observed electron-atom scattering data, is presented in Chapter 3. Practical details of the computational implementation of the variational theory are given in Chapter 4. Chapters 5 and 6 summarize recent appli cations of the variational theory to problems of experimental interest, with many examples of the successful interpretation of complex structural fea tures observed in scattering experiments, and of the quantitative prediction of details of electron-atom scattering phenomena.
