Book Synopsis Design of Plate and Shell Structures by : Maan H. Jawad
Download or read book Design of Plate and Shell Structures written by Maan H. Jawad and published by American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written primarily for professional engineers interested in designing plate and shell structures. It covers basic aspects of theories and gives examples for the design of components due to internal and external loads as well as other loads, such as wind and dead loads. Various derivations are kept relatively simple and the resultant equations are simplified to a level where the engineer can apply them directly to design problems. More elaborate derivations and more general equations can be found in the literature for those interested in a more in-depth knowledge of the theories of plates and shells. The examples given throughout this book are intended to show the engineer the level of analysis needed to achieve a safe design based on a given required degree of accuracy. This book is also appropriate for advanced engineering courses.
Book Synopsis Optimal Design of Flexural Systems by : G. I. N. Rozvany
Download or read book Optimal Design of Flexural Systems written by G. I. N. Rozvany and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal Design of Flexural Systems: Beams, Grillages, Slabs, Plates and Shells covers theoretical developments and optimal solutions for all boundary conditions that may be of practical or theoretical interest in the design of flexural systems. Organized into nine chapters, this book begins with a review of certain fundamental concepts of mechanics, calculus of variations, and optimal design. Subsequent chapters discuss in considerable details the theories of optimal plastic design, as well as the elastic and prestressed systems. Other chapters describe the theory of optimal flexure fields that give an absolute minimum statically admissible ""moment volume"" for plane systems, as well as the slabs and grillages optimized within various types of geometrical constraints. The last chapter evaluates experimental work and certain practical aspects of the optimization of flexural systems. This book will be of interest to graduate students, research workers, practicing engineers, and architects in structural engineering, architectural science, aerospace technology, solid mechanics, and applied mathematics.
Book Synopsis Basic Principles of Plates and Slabs by : Peter Gerald Lowe
Download or read book Basic Principles of Plates and Slabs written by Peter Gerald Lowe and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Floor structures account for the majority of all structural material incorporated into a typical building and plate theories provide the information required to design them. This comprehensive book provides a wide-ranging account of the theoretical aspects of plate and slab theory - in essence structural floors - followed by a discussion of the construction and design of real plate and slab elements. The early chapters discuss kinematics and statics, then the theories of elastic and plastic plates and slabs are developed and studied. The novel methods described are capable of providing 'safe' lower bounds on the collapse loads for a wide range of shapes and types of floor. Then follows a discussion of what criteria should be met by a construction method. These criteria are used to develop design principles for what is termed the 'preferred method of construction'. Worked examples and exercises are provided throughout. The final sections include more lengthy exercises, an extensive, annotated bibliography and some brief historical notes on the evolution of the subject.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plated structures are widely used in many engineering constructions ranging from aircraft to ships and from off-shore structures to bridges and buildings. Given their diverse use in severe dynamic loading environments, it is vital that their dynamic behaviour is analysed and understood. Analysis and design of plated structures Volume 2: Dynamics provides a concise review of the most recent research in the area and how it can be applied in the field. The book discusses the modelling of plates for effects such as transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia, assembly of plates in forming thin-walled members, and changing material properties in composite, laminated and functionally graded plates. Various recent techniques for linear and nonlinear vibration analysis are also presented and discussed. The book concludes with a hybrid strategy suitable for parameter identification of plated structures and hydroelastic analysis of floating plated structures. With its distinguished editors and team of international contributors, Analysis and design of plated structures Volume 2: Dynamics is an invaluable reference source for engineers, researchers and academics involved in the analysis and design of plated structures. It also provides a companion volume to Analysis and design of plated structures Volume 1: Stability. - The second of two volumes on plated structures - Provides a concise review of the most recent research in the research of plated structures - Discusses modelling of plates for specific effects

Download or read book Plate Structures written by Victor Birman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-20 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plate structures are used in almost every area of engineering, including aerospace and naval architecture, civil engineering, and electronics. These structures have diverse geometries and have to withstand a wide range of loading conditions. This book provides the theoretical foundations of the theories of plates manufactured from various materials, outlines and illustrates the methods used for the analysis of these structures, and emphasizes designs and solution techniques available to an engineer. The book is written for engineers working in industry, graduate students at aerospace, mechanical, civil engineering and naval architecture departments, and investigators interested in the development of the theory of plates and related subjects. While the mathematical modeling employed in the book is understandable to both engineers and graduate students, the book also provides insight into relevant phenomena and theories underlying plate structures. Thus, the reader is equipped with a thorough understanding of the problems and appropriate assumptions, even if the analysis is conducted using commercially available software codes. In addition, the book includes numerous analytical solutions that can confidently be used in the design of plate structures. The combination of theoretical insight and references to practical problems makes the book equally attractive to academia and industry.

Book Synopsis Cosserat Plate Theory by : Lev Steinberg
Download or read book Cosserat Plate Theory written by Lev Steinberg and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-15 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the foundation and validation of the Cosserat Plate Theory, numerical experiments of deformation and vibration, and the unique properties of the Cosserat plates. Our approach incorporates the high accuracy assumptions of the Cosserat plate deformation consistent with the Cosserat Elasticity equilibrium equations, constitutive formulas, strain-displacement and torsion-microrotation relations. The Cosserat Plate Theory is parametric, where the "splitting parameter" minimizes the Cosserat plate energy. The validation of the theory is based on the comparison with the three-dimensional Cosserat Elastostatics and Elastodynamics. The numerical results are obtained using the Finite Element Method (FEM) specifically developed to solve the parametric system of equations. The analysis of deformation of a variety of Cosserat plates shows the stress concentration reduction, higher stiffness of Cosserat plates, and the size-effect related to the microstructure. The analysis of vibration of Cosserat plates predicts size-related properties of the plate vibration, the existence of the additional so-called Cosserat plate resonances, and the dynamic anisotropy, related to the dependency of the resonances on the microelement's shapes and orientations.
