Book excerpt: Monographs in Organic Functional Group Analysis, Volume 6: Analytical Methods for Organic Cyano Groups describes both qualitative and quantitative analytical methods for analysis of various organic cyano groups. This book is organized into two parts encompassing 12 chapters. Part A presents some chemical methods, which are classified according to the reaction undergone by the compound being detected, identified or determined. This part specifically covers reactions of addition to the cyano group; of other groups activated and unaffected by the cyano group; degradation reactions; and other chemical reactions. Part B highlights pure physical methods, including polarographic procedures, spectroscopic, spectrophotometric, chromatographic, and ion exchange methods, as well as azeotropic distillation. This book will be of value to organic and analytical chemists, as well as to and organic and analytical chemistry teachers, students, and researchers.

Download or read book C-Furanosides written by Peter Goekjian and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 796 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbon analogs of carbohydrates, dubbed C-glycosides, have remained an important and interesting class of mimetics, be it in natural product synthesis, for pharmacological applications, as conformational probes, or for biological studies. C-Furanosides: Synthesis and Stereochemistry provides a much-needed overview of synthetic and stereochemical principles for C-furanosides: analogs of a 5-membered ring carbohydrate glycoside (furanoside), in which the anomeric oxygen has been replaced with a carbon. While our understanding of conformational behavior and of stereoselective synthesis in 6-membered ring compounds is quite good, our ability to predict the conformation of 5-membered ring compounds, or to predict the stereochemical outcome of a given reaction, remains anecdotal. Through a comprehensive review of literature approaches to the different C-furanoside stereoisomers, as well as an interpretation of the outcome in terms of a reasonable number of stereochemical models, C-Furanosides: Synthesis and Stereochemistry enables the reader to determine the best approach to a particular C-glycoside compound, and also hopes to provide a certain level of rationalization and predictability for the synthesis of new systems. Provides a comprehensive review of the growing literature in C-furanosides Enables readers to choose the most convenient approach to access a defined target in natural products synthesis or pharmacology and make reasonable predictions for the stereochemical outcome in unpublished cases Explores the various rational models for stereochemical analysis of furanoside reactivity, with a clear distinction made between physical chemical mechanisms and stereochemical models

Book excerpt: Magnetic nanocatalysts are becoming an important tool for greener catalytic processes in chemical transformations in view of the ease of their removal from a reaction medium. This book explores assorted magnetic nanocatalysts, their deployment in synthesis, chemical transformation and their recovery and reuse. Various thematic topics embodied include magnetic nanocatalysts for S-S bond formation, N-heterocycle formation, C-heteroatom bond formation, silica-supported catalysts, multicomponent reactions, including their recyclability; another available volume emphasizes the utility of magnetic nanocatalysts in industrial appliances.
Book Synopsis Principles of Organic Chemistry by : Robert J. Ouellette
Download or read book Principles of Organic Chemistry written by Robert J. Ouellette and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-02-13 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Class-tested and thoughtfully designed for student engagement, Principles of Organic Chemistry provides the tools and foundations needed by students in a short course or one-semester class on the subject. This book does not dilute the material or rely on rote memorization. Rather, it focuses on the underlying principles in order to make accessible the science that underpins so much of our day-to-day lives, as well as present further study and practice in medical and scientific fields. This book provides context and structure for learning the fundamental principles of organic chemistry, enabling the reader to proceed from simple to complex examples in a systematic and logical way. Utilizing clear and consistently colored figures, Principles of Organic Chemistry begins by exploring the step-by-step processes (or mechanisms) by which reactions occur to create molecular structures. It then describes some of the many ways these reactions make new compounds, examined by functional groups and corresponding common reaction mechanisms. Throughout, this book includes biochemical and pharmaceutical examples with varying degrees of difficulty, with worked answers and without, as well as advanced topics in later chapters for optional coverage. Incorporates valuable and engaging applications of the content to biological and industrial uses Includes a wealth of useful figures and problems to support reader comprehension and study Provides a high quality chapter on stereochemistry as well as advanced topics such as synthetic polymers and spectroscopy for class customization

Book Synopsis C-C Bond Activation by : Guangbin Dong
Download or read book C-C Bond Activation written by Guangbin Dong and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-18 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Topics in Current Chemistry presents critical reviews of the present and future trends in modern chemical research. The scope of coverage is all areas of chemical science including the interfaces with related disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials science. The goal of each thematic volume is to give the non-specialist reader, whether in academia or industry, a comprehensive insight into an area where new research is emerging which is of interest to a larger scientific audience. Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years are presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. The coverage is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of the field or include large quantities of data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the methodological thinking that will allow the non-specialist reader to understand the information presented. Contributions also offer an outlook on potential future developments in the field. Review articles for the individual volumes are invited by the volume editors. Readership: research chemists at universities or in industry, graduate students

The index also covers the use of solution-based synthesis for the generation of molecular diversity. Organized for rapid retrieval of published information on classes of synthetic transformations, linkers, and analytical methods Serves as a laboratory manual for bench chemists Includes a chapter on linkers to assist in choice of linking strategy Discusses strengths and limitations of the various methods Contains a structural index showing functional group transformations in solid-phase synthesis
Book Synopsis Organic Chemistry Study Guide by : Robert J. Ouellette
Download or read book Organic Chemistry Study Guide written by Robert J. Ouellette and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-11-04 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic Chemistry Study Guide: Key Concepts, Problems, and Solutions features hundreds of problems from the companion book, Organic Chemistry, and includes solutions for every problem. Key concept summaries reinforce critical material from the primary book and enhance mastery of this complex subject. Organic chemistry is a constantly evolving field that has great relevance for all scientists, not just chemists. For chemical engineers, understanding the properties of organic molecules and how reactions occur is critically important to understanding the processes in an industrial plant. For biologists and health professionals, it is essential because nearly all of biochemistry springs from organic chemistry. Additionally, all scientists can benefit from improved critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are developed from the study of organic chemistry. Organic chemistry, like any "skill", is best learned by doing. It is difficult to learn by rote memorization, and true understanding comes only from concentrated reading, and working as many problems as possible. In fact, problem sets are the best way to ensure that concepts are not only well understood, but can also be applied to real-world problems in the work place. Helps readers learn to categorize, analyze, and solve organic chemistry problems at all levels of difficulty Hundreds of fully-worked practice problems, all with solutions Key concept summaries for every chapter reinforces core content from the companion book
