Book Synopsis Regulation Inside Government by : Christopher Hood
Download or read book Regulation Inside Government written by Christopher Hood and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 1999-05-27 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regulation Inside Government analyses the army of inspectors, auditors, grievance-chasers, standard-setters and other bodies overseeing contemporary public organizations. Based on an unprecedented two-year inside study of British government by a team of leading scholars, this book provides an original analytical perspective on regulation within government. The book begins by examining the size of internal government regulation to reveal a structure comparable in size to government regulation of business. The book then goes on to show how internal government regulation grew in size despite the fact that public bureaucracy elsewhere were being sharply cutback. Given the limitations of orthodox constitutional checks on executive government, the courts and elected members of the legislature, regulation inside government deserves more attention than it has hitherto received. As one of the first comprehensive accounts of regulation inside government, this book begins to fill the gap.

Book excerpt: After the banishment from Eden, Satan works to deceive the sons of Seth, the Sons of Heaven, also called the Watchers, into desiring the beautiful women among the descendants of Cain. The 200 male Watchers, led by Smazz covet the daughters of Cain, descending into debauchery and taking the women as their wives, producing giants, monsters of all kinds and human abominations called the Nephilim. When God covers the earth with floodwaters, the Sons of Heaven are taken in by Lucifer and become the fallen angels. Meanwhile, the remaining Watchers on Mt. Hermon, have also been changed following the great flood, their body structure and DNA permanently altered by God. Led by angel princes, these new Watchers are divided into twenty clans and instructed to worship and serve Adonai but forbidden to have contact with humans for the first twenty millennia. After that period, they venture into the world populated by millions of people to find and rid the earth of the Nephilim, doing battle and risking their lives in the process. In this fantasy novel, a group of beings blessed by God must make their way through the world and rid it of the creatures known as Nephilim in order to keep Gods creation safe.

Book Synopsis Out of the Present Crisis by : Terence T. Burton
Download or read book Out of the Present Crisis written by Terence T. Burton and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-05-21 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, organizations have achieved an overall failure rate above 80 percent with Lean, Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, and continuous improvement in general. This is certainly not due to a shortage of books, consultants, and other online resources about the methodologies and tools, or the success stories of Toyota and others. However, it is due to a shortage of knowledge and practice about the most critical success factors of improvement: leadership, sustaining infrastructure, behavioral and cultural transformation, and now emerging technology. These factors produce 90 percent of the success with continuous and sustainable improvement; the methodologies and tools represent an irrelevant 10 percent. For decades, most organizations have focused on this quick and easy, irrelevant 10 percent through an endless series of fad, in-vogue improvement programs as they attempt to mimic the best-in-class practices of the most successful organizations. Out of the Present Crisis: Rediscovering Improvement in the New Economy is the contemporary version of Deming’s famous 1982 book, "Out of the Crisis." The author builds a solid case for organizations to aggressively pursue the next generation of systematic and sustainable improvement through a combined strategy of Deming’s back-to-basics, innovation and breakthrough thinking, integration of emerging and enabling technology, and adaptive improvement across diverse environments and industries. The book’s practical, pragmatic style is backed up by many real world examples and personal experiences. If you're looking for another book about Lean or Six Sigma "tools" this is not it. But it is a book about how to achieve lasting success by making improvement the cultural standard of excellence and living code of conduct in organizations. This popular book provides executives with an up-to-date and proven reference guide for rediscovering successful systematic and sustainable improvement in today’s economy. The author demonstrates the importance of viewing improvement as a continuous manageable "process" and covers the most critical success factors of leadership, sustaining infrastructure, behavioral and cultural transformation, and emerging technology in a practical, no-nonsense, "how-to-do" style. The book provides specific guidance for all industries including public and private corporations, hospitals, financial services, airlines, municipalities, and federal, state, and local governments.

Book Synopsis Energy Lab for Kids by : Emily Hawbaker
Download or read book Energy Lab for Kids written by Emily Hawbaker and published by Quarry Books. This book was released on 2017-05-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Lab for Kids offers 40 discovery-filled and thought-provoking energy projects by Emily Hawbaker, a science educator from the NEED (National Energy Education Development) project—with a foreword by Liz Lee Heinecke, author of Kitchen Science Lab for Kids. Using supplies that you can find around the house or in the grocery store, these exciting projects let you observe, explore, discover, and get energized! We hear about energy on the news, we use it every day, and sometimes we're told we have too much of it. But what is energy—potential, kinetic, chemical, radiant, and thermal? The lab activities in this book will let you explore almost everything about energy—what it is, how we find it, how we use it, and how we can save it. Uniting this collection of science experiments for the kitchen, backyard, or classroom is the goal to explore and discover real energy solutions. The chapters cross all categories—from steam, electricity, and chemical reactions, to water, solar, and wind power—allowing kids to compare and test the different sources and to discover their strengths and failings. Why is one source of energy is more efficient for a one situation but not for another? Why might two energy sources combined work better than a single source? Which sources are renewable? Projects are geared to understanding actual issues in the news today. With an emphasis on inventive exploration, you'll discover that creativity leads to breakthroughs. Learn about: chemical, radiant, and thermal energy by activating a glow stick and watching it get brighter in hot water. viscosity by sucking soda and chocolate syrup up an "oil pipeline" made from straws. solar energy by melting s'mores in a pizza box solar oven. wind power by lifting paperclips with a wind turbine made from a cup, paper, tape, and straw. calories by burning cheese puffs (and other food) in a homemade calorimeter. The popular Lab for Kids series features a growing list of books that share hands-on activities and projects on a wide host of topics, including art, astronomy, clay, geology, math, and even how to create your own circus—all authored by established experts in their fields. Each lab contains a complete materials list, clear step-by-step photographs of the process, as well as finished samples. The labs can be used as singular projects or as part of a yearlong curriculum of experiential learning. The activities are open-ended, designed to be explored over and over, often with different results. Geared toward being taught or guided by adults, they are enriching for a range of ages and skill levels. Gain firsthand knowledge on your favorite topic with Lab for Kids.
