Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his inimitable "two track" style of creating a fictional future and flashing back to actual events in recent history, Peter T. King once again places Congressman Sean Cross at the center of international terrorism, this time coming from radical Islam in cahoots with the Irish Republican Army. The "reality-based" track gives a minute-by-minute account of September 11, 2001 and its effect on the cities of New York and Washington, and continues with month-by-month accounts up until September 11, 2002. A leading congressional Republican, King offers keen insight into President Bush's inner circle in the days immediately following the attacks. In King's fictional future New York once again comes under attack, and it falls upon the resourceful Sean Cross to uncover the odd bedfellows that comprise this latest conspiracy to visit terror on American soil.

Grief must like silence; the mere whisper of a cry or hint of a tear and Grief makes its presence known. Silence is a megaphone for Grief. A constant that is a deafening reminder of what I am missing. Yet, I find at times it also promotes a quietness with my Lord. Somehow I need to find a way to cherish the solitude in a positive way. Proving once again that Gods light is brightest when our hour is darkest, Walking through the Valley of Tears is one mans surprising discovery of unending grace at his time of greatest grief. This is a must read for anyone experiencing loss or needing affirmation of Gods limitless love. Rosemary Clair, author of Heir of Earth When your body is exhausted and your soul is parched, you can find unexpected comfort, nurture, rest, and renewal in the darkness of the valley. Buddy McElhannon reminds us that resources are abundant in the valley as the living water pours forth through tears and grief gives way to the riches only heartache can cultivate. Heartwarming, honest, and hopeful, Buddy gently invites us all to journey together with Christ through the depths of the valley and introduces us to good soil, calm water, and the protected canopy that God provides so we can once again shout with joy from the mountaintop. I promise that Buddy will be a helpful guide as you find strength in weakness, hope in despair, and joy in journey while Walking through the Valley of Tears. Her final destination is the Valley of Tears in the Highlands, also known as the romantic town of Glencoe, as well as the scene of a 17th century clan massacre. Although she no longer believes in great love, let alone the myths of the past, the spirit of Dusten MacDonald teaches her something different. Dusten is imprisoned in the fairy realm and cursed. Only at Samhain is he allowed to show himself to mortals in search of salvation. This Samhain, Cat decides to help him. However, she does not end up in the fairy realm as originally planned, but in the 17th century. There she meets Dusten’s past self. But how can she prevent the inevitable from happening?

Book excerpt: The tears that flowed from Calvary were not those of an angry man but of a lonely man. A man forsaken by both God and man. All through the valley, his eyes were set on the mountain, on the joy that would be his. The valley is not the end of the road. It is simply a land surrounded by mountains. We all experience the ups and downs of life, and most times we feel like breaking out in tears. It is not a sign of weakness to cry while going through tough times. Even Jesus wept. The promise is that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. It takes faith to walk through the valley and maintain a positive attitude. Keep your eyes on the mountain while your tears are flowing in the valley, for you shall rise again. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. (Psalm 23v4)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year in the United States, roughly two million people die, leaving behind them many grieving hearts in need of perspective and comfort. Many are husbands or wives who reach for a missing partner on the other side of the bed. Others are children, young and old, who suddenly realize that their parents are gone, leaving the world a strange and lonely place. Some are parents whose plans and dreams fade as they watch a child pass away. Dr. Barber addresses the pain of losing a parent and its effect on children of different ages - toddlers, young children, older children, and teens. He also offers practical advice for widows and widowers, for those who re-marry, and for those who blend children of both surviving parents into one new family. For anyone who mourns the loss of a loved one, 'Through the Valley of Tears' is a valuable source of comfort and advice.

Book excerpt: A young black girl disappears from Cincinnati's West End. No witnesses, no leads. Tow days later, a white girl the same age is snatched from Hyde Park Square. Cincinnati's mayor receives a letter brutally stating: "Find the black girl and we'll return the white girl." The fuse lit, two female detectives race to uncover the kidnappers. Hope dwindles as time accumulates, and passes, without resolution. Cincinnati PD and the FBI form an uneasy alliance while battling the city's racial stereotypes and stigmas. In the latest thriller from Rock Neelly, author of the Purple Heart Detective Agency and the Prince of the Border, readers ride shotgun through the Queen City in police patrol cars, searching recently vacated safe rooms, questioning sorrowful family members, grilling drug lords, looking for anonymous white vans and dark motives. Each detective is tough on her own, combining to make a ferocious duo, but will that be enough...and in time. Weaving together race, law enforcement, family ties, buried history, and life along the banks of the Ohio River, readers will face their own assumptions as they see suspicions reflected on the page. Written with complicated realistic characters, River of Tears makes us think about missing girls used as pawns - and what we would do if we had to find them? "In Neelly's taut new thriller, racism and civil unrest ratchet up the tensions on the mean streets of Cincinnati where Detectives Madison Jane Monroe and Rosie Coleman hustle to catch a kidnapper before it's too late." - Cedric Rose, Mercantile Library.

Book excerpt: It all begins when Soft Rain's teacher reads a letter stating that as of May 23, 1838, all Cherokee people are to leave their land and move to what many Cherokees called "the land of darkness". . .the west. Soft Rain is confident that her family will not have to move, because they have just planted corn for the next harvest but soon thereafter, soldiers arrive to take nine-year-old, Soft Rain, and her mother to walk the Trail of Tears, leaving the rest of her family behind. Because Soft Rain knows some of the white man's language, she soon learns that they must travel across rivers, valleys, and mountains. On the journey, she is forced to eat the white man's food and sees many of her people die. Her courage and hope are restored when she is reunited with her father, a leader on the Trail, chosen to bring her people safely to their new land. Praise for Soft Rain: "An eye-opening introduction to this painful period of American history."--Publisher's Weekly "The characters themselves transform a sorrowful story of adversity into a tale of human resilience."--Kirkus Reviews "This gentle child's-eye view will move readers enormously."--Jane Yolen

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set against the tragic events of the Cherokees' removal from their traditional lands in North Carolina to Indian Territory between 1835-1838, Mountain Windsong is a love story that brings to life the suffering and endurance of the Cherokee people. It is the moving tale of Waguli (Whippoorwill") and Oconeechee, a young Cherokee man and woman separated by the Trail of Tears. Just as they are about to be married, Waguli is captured be federal soldiers and, along with thousands of other Cherokees, taken west, on foot and then by steamboat, to what is now eastern Oklahoma. Though many die along the way, Waguli survives, drowning his shame and sorrow in alcohol. Oconeechee, among the few Cherokees who remain behind, hidden in the mountains, embarks on a courageous search for Waguli. Robert J. Conley makes use of song, legend, and historical documents to weave the rich texture of the story, which is told through several, sometimes contradictory, voices. The traditional narrative of the Trail of Tears is told to a young contemporary Cherokee boy by his grandfather, presented in bits and pieces as they go about their everyday chores in rural North Carolina. The telling is neiter bitter nor hostile; it is sympathetic by unsentimental. An ironic third point of view, detached and often adversarial, is provided by the historical documents interspersed through the novel, from the text of the removal treaty to Ralph Waldo Emerson's letter to the president of the United States in protest of the removal. In this layering of contradictory elements, Conley implies questions about the relationships between history and legend, storytelling and myth-making. Inspired by the lyrics of Don Grooms's song "Whippoorwill," which open many chapters in the text, Conley has written a novel both meticulously accurate and deeply moving.
