Download or read book Mystery Unveiled written by Paul C.H. Lim and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-09-27 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul C. H. Lim offers an insightful examination of the polemical debates about the doctrine of the Trinity in seventeenth-century England, showing that this philosophical and theological re-configuration significantly impacted the politics of religion in the early modern period. Through analysis of these heated polemics, Lim shows how Trinitarian God-Talk became untenable in many ecclesiastical and philosophical circles, which led to the emergence of Unitarianism. He also demonstrates that those who continued to embrace Trinitarian doctrine articulated their piety and theological perspectives in an increasingly secularized culture of discourse. Drawing on both unexplored manuscripts and well-known treatises of Continental and English provenance, he unearths the complex layers of the polemic: from biblical exegesis to reception history of patristic authorities, from popular religious radicalism during the Civil War to Puritan spirituality, from Continental Socinians to English anti-trinitarians who avowed their relative independent theological identity, from the notion of the Platonic captivity of primitive Christianity to that of Plato as "Moses Atticus." Among this book's surprising conclusions are the findings that Anti-Trinitarian sentiment arose from a Puritan ambience, in which Biblical literalism overcame rationalistic presuppositions, and that theology and philosophy were not as unconnected during this period as previously thought. Mystery Unveiled will fill a significant lacuna in early modern English intellectual history.

Download or read book Unveiling Mercy written by Chad Bird and published by New Reformation Publications. This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 747 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unveiling Mercy will do just that—unveil how the mercy of God in the Messiah is spoken of from the very opening Hebrew word of the Bible, all the way to the closing chapter of Malachi. By the end of the year, you will have entered the Old Testament through 365 new doorways, looked with fresh eyes at old verses, and traced a web of connections all over the Scriptures that you've never spotted before. You'll begin to see what one person meant when he described Hebrew words as "hyphens between heaven and earth." Reading the Bible in translation can be like "kissing the bride through the veil." Each of these 365 devotions is crafted so as to lift that veil ever so slightly, to touch skin to skin, as it were, with the original language. You do not need to know anything about Hebrew to profit from these meditations. They are not written to teach you the language of Abraham, Moses, and Isaiah, but to give you a taste of their insights, to expose you to their eloquence, to laugh with them at their winking wordplays, to un-English their idioms, and—most importantly—to trace their trajectories all the way into the preaching of the Messiah and the writings of his evangelists and apostles.

Book Synopsis The Trinity Unveiled by : Cass Bernard
Download or read book The Trinity Unveiled written by Cass Bernard and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most Churches teach that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are equal beings and somehow, the same God. They themselves admit, “It is a mystery beyond our comprehension.” Still however, they want us as followers, to accept this belief with faith despite the fact they cannot explain it. Because of this and the lack of support from the scriptures, do we not have every right to question it? Do the scriptures show there is a three in one God? Jesus said at John 6: 38 (NIV, bolding added for emphasis) “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” This scripture describes two wills. If there are two wills, then there must be two beings. If one sends the other, then one is evidently in charge which means they cannot be the same or equal. Many other scriptures concur, such as 1 Corinthians 11: 3 (NIV) that reads, “... the head of Christ, is God.” The book highlights the scriptures used for support of this doctrine and includes the contexts that surround those same verses to show that the Bible does not teach a triune type of God anywhere. This book offers over one hundred scriptures that combine to prove the falseness of the teaching of the Trinity. Besides more than enough scriptural evidence, the book also brings into focus how other Bible versions render those same “Trinity” scriptures and dives into the history of this doctrine. When these things are all exposed, the Trinity fails to deliver as truth.

Book Synopsis The Trinity by : Thomas Joseph White, OP
Download or read book The Trinity written by Thomas Joseph White, OP and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2022-03-11 with total page 737 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Trinity is the central mystery of the Christian faith. What can we say about the divine nature, and what does it mean to say that God is Father, Son, Holy Spirit, three persons who are one in being? In this book, best selling author Thomas Joseph White, OP, examines the development of early Christian reflection on the Trinity, arguing that essential contributions of Patristic theology are preserved and expanded in the thought of Thomas Aquinas. By focusing on Aquinas’ theology of the divine nature as well as his treatment of divine personhood, White explores in depth the mystery of Trinitarian monotheism. The Trinity: On the Nature and Mystery of the One God also engages with influential proposals of modern theologians on major topics such as Trinitarian creation, Incarnation and crucifixion, and presents creative engagements with these topics. Ultimately any theology of the cross is also a theology of the Trinity, and this book seeks to illustrate how the human life, death, and resurrection of Jesus reveal the inner life of God as Trinity.
