This book was released on 2019-03-17 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mystery and intrigue surrounds much of the life of the founder and practitioner of Ju-Jutsu, the self-styled "professor", S. K. (Sada Kazu) Uyenishi. However, he was one of the first and probably the most influential jujitsu and judo experts to demonstrate, teach and compete in these arts outside of Japan. From the shadowy "Baritsu" exponents in the stories of Sherlock Holmes, to Inspector Clouseau's sidekick Cato of Pink Panther notoriety and James Bond's Odd Job, he of the stage name "Raku" has provided the entertainment industry with many stereotypes. Sada Kazu Uyenishi even influenced the seeming erratic, yet expertly controlled, screen pranks of the masterful Charlie Chaplin; but who was S. K. Uyenishi in real life? Find out more about him and his uniquely 'soft' style of Ju-jutsu, from reading this authentic presentation of his book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With extensive, step-by-step photographs and instructions, this jiu-jitsu guide is an effective tool for mastering this ancient martial art. The original Japanese martial art developed by the elite samurai class during Japan's feudal era, Jiu-jitsu is the forerunner of Judo and the precursor of today's ultimate fighting styles, such as mixed martial arts (MMA). For centuries, this method of unarmed self-defense proved so successful in combat that it was kept secret and taught only to a select few. Based on the author's study with instructors at the Tokyo police academy, this martial arts book presents all the traditional techniques of Jujitsu, also known as Jiu-jitsu. These techniques teach you valuable restraining methods that force your opponent to submit without abuse by using pressure points. It shows you tips for search and seizure, and the almost extinct art of Hojojutsu--how to tie people up without using any knots. Japanese Jiu-jitsu: Secret Techniques of Self-Defense addresses and demonstrates the full range of Kaisho Goshin Budo Taiho Jitsu Ryu (Tokyo police self-defense). Learn specific techniques such as: The use of hands Throwing an opponent Attacking vital points with strikes and kicks The use of weapons (like the staff). This fascinating Jiujitsu book, designed as a training manual, also serves as a remarkable illustrated guide to the secret art of Japanese samurai self-defense.

This school was set up to compete with the popular Kodokan Judo. Jujutsu 1913 was one of the earliest Japanese martial arts guides to use photographs to show how to do techniques. Jujutsu 1913 contains 200 black and white photographs and illustrations showing the proper way to set up various throws, sweeps, chokes and grappling techniques. The titles and descriptions have all been translated into English for the first time. An invaluable look into how Jujutsu was taught in the pre-war era. An excellent book for Jujutsu (Jiujitsu), Judo, BJJ or Japanese martial arts researchers or practitioners.

Book excerpt: Originally published in 1906, "The Game of Ju-Jitsu" is an accomplished work by two of the great Judoka of all time. In simple, precise, and declarative descriptions, the key elements of Ju-Jitsu are explained as well as the many improper applications (Faults), that can take place in a common match. Along with over 90 illustrations and photographs many current techniques as well as techniques no longer used in traditional Judo matches are covered. Falling exercises, Standing work, Simple and Advanced Throws, Groundwork, Hold-downs, and a variety of Locking techniques are covered. Both of the authors (Taro(Taruji) Miyake & Yukio Tani) were early proponents of teaching Jujutsu techniques to Western students. Miyaki started his training under Fusen-ryu Jujutsu ground-fighting Newaza master Mataemon Tanabe, as well as Osaka master Yataro Handa and is credited for helping establish Judo in the United Kingdom at the start of the 20th century. Miyake toured through spectacles and music halls, defeating many of the best wrestlers of the time and engaging in open all-comers challenge matches. Tani was a pioneering Japanese Jujutsu and Judo instructor and professional challenge wrestler, notable for being one of the very first Jujutsu stylists to teach and compete outside of Japan. On stage Tani was known as the "pocket Hercules" and was famous throughout all levels of London society. In 1904, Tani and Miyake opened the Japanese School of Jujutsu that was located at 305, Oxford Street W, London.

Book excerpt: This essential guide provides new practitioners with a thorough grounding in the ancient art of jiu jitsu and advanced students of any martial art with an effective method for integrating jiu jitsu techniques into an existing practice. The book begins with the origins of jiu jitsu in 16th-century Japan, explaining the subsequent rise of judo and Brazilian jiu jitsu to give a complete introduction to the history of the art. Next, training requirements, procedures, and equipment are outlined, preparing the reader for training and combat. The practical section of the book begins with the essential principles governing jiu jitsu, and continues with combination maneuvers; specific positions and their advantages in competition; basic submission techniques; the concept of joined centers; training tips; and a glimpse into intermediate positions and their functions. Full-color photo sequences with expert demonstrations supplement the meticulous descriptions. A glossary, index, and a list of useful international jiu jitsu contacts round out this informative guide.
