Book excerpt: "You have cancer." Words no one wants to hear, but heard by millions every year. Millions more hear the equally shattering news that a loved one has cancer. Both are life-changing messages. For the people writing this book, cancer was not only a personal crisis, it was also an education. Experts on medical ethics, personal experience with cancer showed them how little they understood of the real world of serious illness. Despite years of teaching and writing about treatment decision-making and patient autonomy, they were unprepared for many of the problems they faced. They discovered that the rights and wrongs of cancer care were more complicated than they had anticipated. Ethics outside the hospital walls took on unexpected significance as they discovered the astonishing generosity, and the unintentional cruelty, that cancer provokes in others. Cancer was a test of personal character, too, as patients accustomed to control became dependent on others and caregivers shouldered unfamiliar and difficult responsibilities. In chapters on cancer diagnosis, treatment choices, and research participation, the authors examine medical ethics from the personal point of view. In chapters on family caregiving, cancer interactions, and cancer support groups, they consider ethics outside the medical setting. In chapters on mortality and survivorship, they reflect on cancers personal moral teachings. Cancer is an unavoidable feature of modern life. Readers will come away with a deeper understanding of what it is like to have cancer, better equipped to respond to cancer in their own lives and the lives of others. The book also offers insights to doctors and nurses seeking to improve cancer treatment and to medical ethicists seeking to make their work more relevant to patients and caregivers.

Book excerpt: This edition showcases the effects and consequences of human depravity, frailty and criminal activity. The showcased and photographed remaining structures generally appear nondescript and ordinary, masking their significance and infamy. Throughout the western United States, these commonplace buildings silently testify to events involving violence and individuals whose acts have scarred others, society and sometimes simply themselves. Their stories remain compelling evidence towards the fragility of the human experience and lives severed abruptly. Once you’ve absorbed the history behind each building, you will never view them with indifference again. Paranormal activity within their confines is commonly reported. But author Donna Amidon demonstrates that these ancient stories aren't simply history; they're a vibrant tapestry pointing to Jesus and reflecting God's unwavering promise of redemption. In Tracing His Promise, Amidon guides readers through twenty-five stories from Scripture that trace the promise of Jesus from creation to Bethlehem. Amidon blends rich theology with everyday application as she unlocks the Old Testament's hidden treasures and highlights God's faithfulness from the beginning. Along the way, readers will find discussion questions, relatable anecdotes, and beautiful artwork. They will also be invited to share these stories with their families through printable ornaments and an Advent activity called the Jesse Tree Tradition. Through Tracing His Promise, readers will gain a deeper understanding of the Bible as one interconnected narrative, with Jesus as the centerpiece.

This book was released on 2016-03-02 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the second invasion of Jerusalem(597 B.C.), Nebuchadnezzar deported an even larger group of Judah's upper and middle class citizens to Babylon, and among this group was a young twenty-six year old priest in training named, Ezekiel. This group of Jewish captives was placed in the region of Tel Aviv, along a wide canal that links two branches of the Euphrates known as the Kebar River. There, they were treated more as colonists than slaves and enjoyed many privileges. It was there on the banks of the Kebar River, that, in 593 B.C., a now thirty old Ezekiel received his calling from GOD (Ezekiel 1 & 2). Thirty years old is the minimum age that priests are actually allowed to begin serving in the temple (Numbers 4:1-3). And so, as the LORD would have it, it was from that place, that Ezekiel first served the LORD by delivering his first prophetic message to his fellow captives in Babylon.
