Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R. C. Sproul has committed his life to clearly communicating deep, practical truths from God's Word to students and laypeople. His lucid teaching style brings clarity to the most difficult--and often contentious--biblical and theological questions. Gathered here in one volume are three of his best-selling books--over $40 worth of reading at a great low price. From Rudolf Otto's" mysterium tremendum" to Martin Luther's "insanity"and Jonathan Edwards's fiery sermons, Sproul's classic "The Holiness of God"illuminates history and Scripture to help readers understand--and live with--the tension that exists between God's terrifying holiness and his inexplicable grace. In "Chosen by God," Sproul tackles the divisive subject of predestination, and discusses God's sovereignty and the problem of evil, human freedom, and the task of evangelism. He explains that there is a mystery in God's ways but not contradiction; and paints a picture of a loving--not spiteful or whimsical--God who provides redemption for radically corrupt people."Pleasing God" explores the topic of sanctification--how we satisfy God by pursuing righteousness. Sproul examines the constant battle Christians wage against sin--pride, slothfulness, dishonesty. He reveals how many Christians have tragically abandoned the struggle, but that God delights in those who press on. Although Sproul brings a Reformed background and approach to topics, his work is not just for Calvinists but for all Christians who want to understand and build on the foundations of their faith.

Calvin's dictionary is proud to be carried everywhere Calvin goes--the breakfast table, school, baseball practice, and home again--because Calvin is determined to find the perfect word to attach to his annoying older brother. The word isn’t exactly revenge, mayhem, bewilderment, subterfuge, pulverize, or even retaliation, though all those words are so close and very tempting. When Calvin finally finds the right word for his rascally brother, his dictionary is surprised and delighted, and readers will enjoy celebrating the triumphant discovery of Calvin's perfect word along with his dictionary.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moses, the great patriarch in the heart of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, wrote the first five books of the Bible or Tanakh, perhaps the most influential books in Western history. Yet, because they were written in Hebrew, a highly symbolic and deeply mystical language, few have revealed the true meanings of the stories and events he described. When you know the Hebrew letters and the structures of Kabbalah, the secret teachings of Moses radiate with stark clarity, and echo throughout the entire range of Jewish and Christian scriptures, especially in the Gospels of Jesus. This book focuses on the second chapter of Genesis (Bereshit), which establishes the foundation of the Jewish and Christian religions. With this knowledge you can understand the true meaning of Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden, the presence of the serpent, and all of the rest of the teachings that follow these symbols. Yet, this is not merely scholarly theology: by understanding what Moses actually wrote, anyone can see the true basis of human suffering and how to change it.

Book excerpt: 2016 Reprint of 1909 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Originally published as "The Instruction of Ptah-Hotep" and also as "The Maxims of Ptahhotep," the work is believed by some scholars to be the oldest book in the world. Authorship is attributed to Ptahhotep, a vizier under King Isesi of the Egyptian Fifth Dynasty (ca. 2414-2375 BC). It is a collection of maxims and advice in the sebayt ("teaching") genre on human relations and are provided as instruction for his son. The work survives today in papyrus copies, including the Prisse Papyrus which dates from the Middle Kingdom and is on display at the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. There are considerable differences between the Prisse Papyrus version and the two texts at the British Museum. The 1906 translation by Battiscombe Gunn, published as part of the "Wisdom of the East" series and which is reprinted here, was made directly from the Prisse Papyrus, in Paris, rather than from copies. Some lessons include: Learning by listening to everybody and knowing that human knowledge is never perfect are a leitmotif. Avoiding open conflict wherever possible should not be considered weakness. Justice should be pursued and in the end it will be a god's command that prevails. Greed is the base of all evil and should be guarded against, while generosity towards family and friends is praiseworthy."

Book excerpt: This is an affordable reprint of the 2005 classic hardbound edition that is selling well over $100 per copy!"Adam ... is our Father and our God"This 1852 general conference declaration introduced Mormondom's most hotly divisive religious dispute that continues to ignite controversy today - Adam-God teachings. Labeled among the seven deadly heresies by apostle Bruce R. McConkie after being heralded as "the most important revelation ever oracle" in a book co-authored by Joseph Smith's acclaimed plural wife, Eliza R. Snow, Adam-God teachings have been a rage of controversy for over 150 years. For the first time, every known statement concerning Adam-God teachings has been compiled, documented, organized, and presented to the reader in a way that will withstand serious academic scrutiny. For the first time, Adam-God teachings have been presented in a sensitive reading environment that allows the reader to study the original Adam-God statements without the pressure of reading the author's personal interpretations - the author's thoughtful insights have been separated into analysis sections following the original sources. For the first time, Eve's role in Adam-God teachings has been prominently considered. For the first time, the changes in Mormonism's theological teachings surrounding the identity of Jehovah have been meticulously researched and documented. With scores of previously unpublished statements and a carefully organized presentation, Understanding Adam-God Teachings promises to be the definitive resource volume for readers who have previously only had limited access to the hundreds of statements surrounding this controversial topic. This assiduous treatment of this fallow field of theology will prove to be an enriching and insightful read for the believer and non-believer alike. If you email (or FB message) the author, he'll send you a PDF with the few quotes that have been discovered since this book was printed over a decade ago (with proof of purchase - a screenshot is fine).

Book excerpt: "The writing lessons in this book are organized to quickly unpack the detail move, explain when and why the strategy works well, share how I have taught it to my students, and offer ways to make it your own." -Rozlyn Linder Have you ever told a writer to add more details, only to see their writing get longer not better? That's why Roz Linder wrote The Big Book of Details. "To help our students use details and elaborate effectively," she writes, "we need to find out what they want their writing to do, and then show them explicit moves to make it happen." Roz breaks elaboration into 5 categories and shares 46 lessons based on the moves that professional writers use. With if-then charts that connect student needs to just-right strategies, you'll help writers master details that: Describe: for people, places, and things Dance: for showing action and sequencing events Convince: for questions, persuasion, and arguments Inform: for defining, comparing, and clarifying Speak: for conversation and speech. The Big Book of Details supports planning and on-the-go teaching for one-on-one conferences, whole-class instruction, or commercial writing programs. Its lessons are organized to help kids understand each move quickly. Roz's strategy lessons include: examples from real-world writers the reason writers use the strategy advice for introducing it to writers ideas for guided practice with writers examples of one of Roz's famous classroom charts "This is what I want for my students," writes Roz Linder, "to use details in their writing in a meaningful way that conveys their ideas and their purpose." If you want that too, then make her Big Book of Details part of your teaching toolkit.
