Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combining recent archeological findings with what scholars have learned about the motives of the authors of the Bible, this book reconstructs the history behind the Bible, from the patriarchs to the Babylonian exile. What it finds will surprise you. The stories of the patriarchs are based on one core legend of four different tribes about their patriarch, and this core legend shows, along with other evidence, that Ephraim and Manasseh are the tribes that went to Egypt. Moses was probably a follower of the monotheism of the Pharaoh Akhenaten, who had to flee from Egypt when the followers of Akhenaten were persecuted and who developed a deeper form of monotheism. The Bible distorts the history of Israel to show that leaders who are dedicated to God will have military success. For example, Joshua did not conquer Canaan; the Israelites settled unoccupied land there. The kingdoms of David and Solomon were much smaller than the Bible says. One of the texts of the Bible was written in the royal court of Judah and combined Israelite and pagan religion. This syncretistic text helped to shape the text of the Bible. The authors of the history texts wanted desperately to save Judah from being exiled, as the northern kingdom of Israel had already been exiled, and so they carried out a harsh and cruel religious reform. Their cruelty helped to shape the text of the Bible. But despite all the later distortions, we can still see that the religion of Moses—passed down by the Levites who believed they were descended from Moses and by the prophets—was a form of ethical monotheism that has inspired world religion for thousands of years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While scholars increasingly recognize the importance of religion throughout American history, The Bible in American Law and Politics is the first reference book to focus on the key role that the Bible has played in American public life. In considering revolting from Great Britain, Americans contemplated whether this was consistent with scripture. Americans subsequently sought to apply Biblical passages to such issues as slavery, women's rights, national alcoholic prohibition, issues of war and peace, and the like. American presidents continue to take their oath on the Bible. Some of America's greatest speeches, for example, Lincoln's Second Inaugural and William Jennings Bryan's Cross of Gold speech, have been grounded on Biblical texts or analogies. Today, Americans continue to cite the Bible for positions as diverse as LGBTQ rights, abortion, immigration, welfare, health care, and other contemporary issues. By providing essays on key speeches, books, documents, legal decisions, and other writings throughout American history that have sought to buttress arguments through citations to Scriptures or to Biblical figures, John Vile provides an indispensable guide for scholars and students in religion, American history, law, and political science to understand how Americans throughout its history have interpreted and applied the Bible to legal and political issues.

This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present era of Jewish rejection of Jesus Christ, see how the stars themselves, in their ancient Paleo Hebrew names, declare him as their Jewish Messiah. See Christ as the fulfillment of: the Genesis 2:15 proto-evangelism (first gospel), the many Old Testament Coming Branch and Seed prophecies, the sacrificial Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, the promised virgin born Messiah, and the Coming Seed of King David. Likewise, in the rise of Islamic and Muslim rejection of Jesus Christ’s Deity, see how the ancient Arabic names of the stars themselves, declare Jesus Christ as Immanuel to the pro-generations of Ishmael, Esau (Edomites), Lot (Moabites and Ammonites), Ham (Hamites, Egypt), etc. Furthermore, in the rise of Atheism and Evolutionism, you will see intelligence, order, relevance, and harmony in the astrological record. All of these premises make the stars a powerful gospel appeal to the Jewish, Arabic, and Atheistic communities in 2015. • Is there a Messianic Image of Jesus Christ in the Hebrew Names of the Stars? • Is there a Middle-East Connection to Jesus Christ in the Arabic Names of the Stars? • Is there Intelligent Design in the Stars? In this book, we are going to journey through the oldest stories within the human race. These stories concern God’s Son and his arch enemy, Satan. We are going to see Christ high and lifted up in the Heavenly Tabernacle. We will learn the doctrines of Christ’s Incarnation, Deity, Kingship, Sacrifice, Redemption, Death, Burial, Resurrection, Descension, Ascension, 1st and 2nd Advents, and his Millennial and Eternal Reigns. We will see Calvary as we never have before. We will see Christ as the Shepherd, the King, the Deliverer, the Judge, the Lamb, and the Victor over Sin and Satan. This book will help us better understand why Christ has all power, is deserving of all glory, and worthy of humanities all. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.” (Ps. 19:1-6) For All Who Seek To Know!

Book excerpt: A Clear Guide to Help Readers Understand Why They Can Trust the Bible We are often told we can no longer assume that the Bible is trustworthy. From social media memes to popular scholarship, so many attacks have been launched on the believability of Scripture that many have serious questions about the Bible, such as: Did Jesus actually live? Did the biblical writers invent their message? How can we trust the gospels since they were written so long after Jesus lived? How can we believe a Bible that is full of internal contradictions with itself and external contradictions with science? Aren't the biblical manuscripts we have just copies of copies that are so corrupted they don't represent what the original authors wrote? Why should we believe the books that are in the Bible, since many good ones were left out, like the Gospel of Thomas? Why trust the Bible when there are so many contradictory translations of it? If you find yourself unable to answer questions such as these, but wanting to, Why I Trust the Bible by eminent Bible scholar and translator William Mounce is for you. These questions and more are discussed and answered in a reasoned, definitive, and winsome way. The truth is that the Bible is better attested and more defensible today than it ever has been. Questions about the Bible are perhaps the most significant challenge confronting Christian faith today, but they can be answered well and in a way which will lead to a deeper appreciation for the truth and ongoing relevance of the Bible.
