Book Synopsis Polymers at Interfaces by : Gerard Fleer
Download or read book Polymers at Interfaces written by Gerard Fleer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-09-30 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the configuration of polymers at the interfacial zone between two other phases or immiscible components. In recent years, developments in technology combined with increased attention from specialists in a wide range of fields have resulted in a considerable increase in our understanding of the behavior of polymers at interfaces. Inevitably these advances have generated a wealth of literature and although there have been numerous reviews, a critical treatment with adequate descriptions of both theory and experiment, including detailed analysis of the two, has been missing. This text hopes to fill this gap, providing a timely and comprehensive account of the field as it stands today. This long needed work will be invaluable to experts as well as newcomers in the broad field of polymers, interfaces and colloids, both in industry and academia. Whilst industrial laboratories involved in this field will find it indispensable, it will be equally important to anyone with an interest in interfacial polymer or colloidal research.

Download or read book Polymer Sorption Phenomena written by Hans-Jürgen P. Adler and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2000-05-25 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains contributions of the 7th Dresden Polymer Discussion held in Mei?en near Dresden from April 19 to 22, 1999. The conference was dedicated to the field 'Characterization of polymer sorption phenomena: From solution to the surface'. Research in the area of modification and characterization of surfaces and interfaces of solids has been booming in the last few years, due to its enormous importance and potential for the development of novel technologies in materials research and engineering. Therefore the 7th Dresden Polymer Discussion, held from April 19 to 22, 1999, was dedicated to the field 'Characterization of polymer sorption phenomena: from solution to the surface'. The publication of the proceedings in this book may contribute to further progress in this field.
Book Synopsis Synthetic Membranes: by : P.M. Bungay
Download or read book Synthetic Membranes: written by P.M. Bungay and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters in this book are based upon lectures given at the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Synthetic Membranes (June 26-July 8, 1983, Alcabideche, Portugal), which provided an integrated presentation of syn thetic membrane science and technology in three broad areas. Currently available membrane formation mechanisms are reviewed, as well as the manner in which synthesis conditions can be controlled to achieve desired membrane structures. Membrane performance in a specific separa tionprocess involves complex phenomena, the understanding of which re quires a multidisciplinary approach encompassing polymer chemistry, phys ical chemistry, and chemical engineering. Progress toward a global understanding of membrane phenomena is described in chapters on the principles of membrane transport. The chapters on membrane processes and applications highlight both established and emerging membrane processes, and elucidate their myriad applications. It is our hope that this book will be an enduring, comprehensive compen dium of the state of knowledge in the field of synthetic membranes. We have been encouraged in that hope by numerous expressions of interest in the book, coming from a variety of potential users.

Download or read book Chemical Properties of Material Surfaces written by Marek Kosmulski and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-07-18 with total page 774 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A discussion of the adsorption of inorganics from aqueous solution on inorganic adsorbents. It emphasizes the relationship between adsorption and surface charging, highlighting simple and complex adsorption systems sorted by the adsorbent as well as the adsorbate. The author includes a comprehensive collection of pristine PZC of different materials - covering crystallographic structure, methods of preparation, impurities in the solid, temperature and ionic composition of the solution, experimental methods to determine PZC, and the correlation between zero points and other physical quantities.
Book Synopsis Molecular Interpretations of Sorption in Polymers by : Louis A. Errede
Download or read book Molecular Interpretations of Sorption in Polymers written by Louis A. Errede and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-03-12 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews recent advances in polymer swelling resulting from the use of novel microporous composite films. It offers a new approach to understanding sorption processes in polymer-liquid systems based on the molecular structures of the sorbed molecules and the repeat unit of the sorbent polymer. It is shown how the adsorption parameters obtained in these studies relate meaningfully with the Flory-Huggins interaction parameters. This implies that these adsorption parameters have relevance not only for swelling and drying of polymers, but also for other phenomena in which molecular sorption plays an important role, such as in chromatography and in membrane permeation.

Book Synopsis Physisorption Kinetics by : Hans J. Kreuzer
Download or read book Physisorption Kinetics written by Hans J. Kreuzer and published by Springer. This book was released on 1986 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with the kinetics of adsorption and desorption of molecules physisorbed on solid surfaces. Although frequent and detailed reference is made to experiment, it is mainly concerned with the theory of the subject. In this, we have attempted to present a unified picture based on the master equation approach. Physisorption kinetics is by no means a closed and mature subject; rather, in writing this monograph we intended to survey a field very much in flux, to assess its achievements so far, and to give a reasonable basis from which further developments can take off. For this reason we have included many papers in the bibliography that are not referred to in the text but are of relevance to physisorption. To keep this monograph to a reasonable size, and also to allow for some unity in the presentation of the material, we had to omit a number of topics related to physisorption kinetics. We have not covered to any extent the equilibrium properties of physisorbed layers such as structures, phase tr- sitions and thermodynamic properties in general. A number of excellent revIew articles, listed in the bibliography, cover this material. Likewise, little is said about scattering off solid surfaces; this subject is again covered in several books and many review articles. Lastly, little is said about chemisorption kinetics, for which microscopic thebries and models have not been fully developed but are still at a rather early exploratory stage.
