Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Son of Two Countries is a story of struggle for education. Born in 1946 in Rwanda under Belgian colonial rule, the author recounts his early education in Rwanda and later as a refugee in Tanzania. He was naturalized as a Tanzanian citizen in 1980 while doing his undergraduate studies at the University of Dar es Salaam. As he struggled to get education, the author was also grappling with his refugee status, with all the challenges that it entailed. The book gives insights into the contradictions of colonial and post-colonial education, as well as the author’s reflections on education in Tanzania, given his long experience in the education sector in that country. Finally, we get some glimpses into the dual identity of the author as a Tanzanian citizen of Rwandan origin and how this shaped his relationship with the two countries he calls home. As he aptly puts it, “Rwanda gave me my heart; Tanzania gave me my brain. I find it difficult to choose between my heart and my brain”.

Book excerpt: Understanding the Book of Mormon on its own terms and through its two-way connection with the Bible Like the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Bible, the Book of Mormon uses narratives to develop ideas and present instruction. Michael Austin reveals how the Book of Mormon connects itself to narratives in the Christian Bible with many of the same tools that the New Testament used to connect itself to the Hebrew Bible to create the Christian Bible. As Austin shows, the canonical context for interpreting the Book of Mormon includes the Christian Bible, the Book of Mormon itself, and other writings and revelations that hold scriptural status in most Restoration denominations. Austin pays particular attention to how the Book of Mormon connects itself to the Christian Bible both to form a new canon and to use the canonical relationship to reframe and reinterpret biblical narratives. This canonical context provides an important and fruitful method for interpreting the Book of Mormon.

Book excerpt: In this groundbreaking study, Andrew Hacker offers a fresh and disturbing examination of the divisions of color and class in present-day America, analyzing the conditions that keep black and white Americans dangerously far apart in their ability to achieve the American dream. Why, despite continued efforts to increase understanding and expand opportunities, do black and white Americans still lead separate lives, continually marked by tension and hostility? In his much-lauded classic and updated version reflecting the changing realities of race in our nation, Andrew Hacker explains the origins and meaning of racism and clarifies the conflicting theories of equality and inferiority. He paints a stark picture of racial inequality in America—focusing on family life, education, income, and employment—and explores the controversies over politics, crime, and the causes of the gap between the races. Reasoned, accurate, and devastating, Two Nations demonstrates how this great and dividing issue has defined America's history and the pivotal role it will play in the future.

Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered what the future holds for the United States and also for Israel? Surely a righteous God will not allow this country to continue in the downward spiral that is prevalent now. The bible gives a good foretelling of the events that await both of these countries. But there are so many different verses to contend with and they are scattered all through the bible. Also, there are so many different speakers who give an intelligent guess of what these events predict? I just don't understand. They all cannot be correct. Question, if THE WHOLE HOUSE OF ISRAEL will return, how will the people know that they are members? How will Israel feed the whole world? Will the sicknesses that the whole world is experiencing at this time ever be cured? How will the false messiah fool so many people into accepting him as a god? In 1953, I started listening to different preacher on the radio. Those messages on Israel seemed to have more guessing of future events than fact. The messages also changed with the preacher. In 1986, I started reading the bible and making notes of the verses that referred to Israel in the latter days. I ended up with ten pages front and back of scripture verses. I bought my first computer with an orange screen and started compiling and writing. In 1993, I sent a copy to a publisher but never heard anything back. My time for studying ceased due to my outside workload. My house burned in 2001 with a complete loss of everything including my orange computer. I started reading and compiling notes again. The book that you are reading is the end results of the four following years.

Book excerpt: The Histories of Herodotus is now considered the founding work of history in Western literature. Written in 440 BC in the Ionic dialect of classical Greek, The Histories serves as a record of the ancient traditions, politics, geography, and clashes of various cultures that were known in Western Asia, Northern Africa and Greece at that time. The Histories also stands as one of the first accounts of the rise of the Persian Empire, as well as the events and causes of the Greco-Persian Wars between the Achaemenid Empire and the Greek city-states in the 5th century BC. The Histories was at some point divided into the nine books that appear in modern editions, conventionally named after the nine Muses.

The Swindoll Study Bible offers the best of Chuck Swindoll's wit, charm, pastoral insight, and wise biblical study directly to you as you study God's Word. Chuck's warm, personal style comes across on every page, and his informed, practical insights get straight to the heart of the Bible's message for the world today. Reading each part of this study Bible is like hearing Chuck speak God's Word directly to your heart. It will both encourage readers' faith and draw them deeper into the study of God's Word. In Chuck's own words: "This study Bible was designed with you in mind. As you read the Scriptures, imagine my sitting beside you and sharing personal stories, important insights, and hard-earned lessons that will encourage you to walk more closely with Jesus Christ. You'll discover the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the Bible: Who wrote it and when? What does it mean, and where did its events occur? Why should I trust it? And most importantly, how can I apply it today? "It's that last question more than any other that has fed my passion to publish this Bible. My primary focus in ministry has been teaching biblical insight for living . . . for genuine life change. After all, that's why God has communicated His Word to us--so that we may become like His Son, Jesus Christ, the central figure of this Book." Free app with purchase! Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American Christians and patriots know that a battle is brewing. It is a battle for the heart and soul of our nation. The cold war being waged against Americas sovereignty, exceptionalism, Christian heritage, and rule of law is rooted in spiritual hatred for our being a nation in covenant with Almighty God. Accelerated by the rise of Barack Obama, and Congress' failure to restrain his overreach, citizen outrage has reached an all-time high. The lines between tyranny and liberty are being defined, and enemies (both foreign and domestic) are hard at work to destroy even the foundations. This is the final push, and the cold war will go hot. War is coming to America, and it's coming soon to a street corner near you. Meanwhile, the American church snoozes, and contents itself with pretty buildings, feel-good sermons, Jesus tattoos, hip songs, light shows and big drums, elaborate productions, potlucks, and abandonment theology. The pulpits...the firebrands of the revolution in the 1700's...have gone silent on issues pertaining to liberty and tyranny, God and Country. A wake-up call is fast approaching. Using scripture and current events, In Defense of a Nation frames the final showdown for America in a way that will cause you to lose sleep. It examines such questions as: Is America a lucky anomaly in human history, or is it a deliberate act of God? Who is America in the Bible? What will the inevitable clash between Islam and Communism vs. America and the Jewish State of Israel look like? When will it occur? What is the beast system of the Bible, and who is the son of perdition? Who is the community organizer in Scripture that carried the anti-Christ messages of social justice and redistribution of wealth? How are the politics of Judas being deployed against America today, and when will his final kiss of betrayal come? Who is the real Barack Obama, why him, why now? What does the end-game look like for America? If you want to be on the cutting edge of events as they unfold, then In Defense Of A Nation is a must-read. America is beyond the tipping point, and quickly approaching the flash point...which will comewhether you like it or notwhether youre ready or not. You will not be allowed to sit this out. The good news is the complete destruction of the corrupt political establishment within America, followed by a spiritual awakening in we the people, concluding with liberty for our land and citizens once again. America's toughest days are just ahead. But so is our crowning moment in history. And you have come to the Kingdom for such a time as this. Now, make it count.
