Neither system is without flaws, but there is emerging a general consciousness of the values which each side esteems. Despite its competitive basis capitalism has given the lower classes a much larger share of produced good than Marx ever would have imagined, as well as the more important inalienable rights of, freedom of expression, and thought, which must be included in any definition of democracy. To preserve this way of life against oppression, the American people know what they must keep their society inspired, growing, and productive. Because the power to tax includes the power to destroy, it is imperative that our economy be so taxed as to permit the fullest possible use of our productive resources. New and growing businesses must not be salted down needlessly by the weight of taxes to meet growing government expenditures. The great dream of Marx was that capitalistic economies would spend themselves into ruin. In view of the above, a well planned and adequate federal corporate income tax will be essential in the ensuing years. The aim of this paper, consequently is to determine if the impact of the federal corporate income tax on small manufacturing corporations in the last decade has been detrimental, and if so, to what degree with concluding recommendations in light of recent tax legislation.
