Book Synopsis The Semantics of Qurʾanic Language: al-Āḫira by : Ghassan el Masri
Download or read book The Semantics of Qurʾanic Language: al-Āḫira written by Ghassan el Masri and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-06-02 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Semantics of Qurʾanic Language: al-Āḫira, Ghassan el Masri offers a semantic study of the concept al-āḫira ‘the End’ in the Qurʾān. The study is prefaced with a detailed account of the late antique concept of etymologia (Semantic Etymology). In his work, he demonstrates the necessity of this concept for appreciating the Qurʾān’s rhetorical strategies for claiming discursive authority in the Abrahamic theological tradition. The author applies the etymological tool to his investigation of the theological significance of al-āḫira, and concludes that the concept is polysemous, and tolerates a large variety of interpretations. The work is unique in that it draws extensively on Biblical material and presents a plethora of pre-Islamic poetry verses in the analysis of the concept.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Quran literally meaning "the recitation"; also romanized as Qur'an or Koran is the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be a revelation from Allah (swt) (God). The Quran is divided into chapters (surah in Arabic), which are then divided into verses (ayah). Muslims believe that the Quran was verbally revealed by God to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel (Jibril), gradually over a period of approximately 23 years, beginning on 22 December 609 CE, when Prophet Muhammad SAW was 40, and concluding in 632, the year of his death. Muslims regard the Quran as the most important miracle of Prophet Muhammad SAW, a proof of his prophethood, and the culmination of a series of divine messages that started with the messages revealed to Prophet Adam (Pbuh) and ended with Prophet Muhammad SAW. The word "Quran" occurs some 70 times in the text of the Quran, although different names and words are also said to be references to the Quran. This particular edition was translated by two Madina based scholars Dr. Muhsin Khan and Dr. Taqi-ud-Din Hilali. It features frequent footnotes gleaned by the translators from Tafsir At-Tabari, Al-Qurtubi and Tafsir Ibn Kathir, and Sahih-al-Bukhari. It is unique, remarkable and distinguished for its crystal clear, precise and pristine meanings. The work is recognised, approved and widely attributed throughout the world. Book Synopsis Qur'anic Term Translation. A Semantic Study from Arabic Perspective by : Ahmed Allaithy
Download or read book Qur'anic Term Translation. A Semantic Study from Arabic Perspective written by Ahmed Allaithy and published by Maklu. This book was released on 2013-12-02 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is mainly concerned with the meaning and English translation of Qur’anic terms which are therefore, analyzed both out of and in context. This book establishes a method of investigation and analysis that linguists and translators could adopt when embarking on analysis of lexical items of the Qur’an and/or when translating it. Owing to the intrinsic difficulties inherent in the translation of the Qur’an, analytical studies on Qur’anic terms are almost unheard of, in spite of the fact that many are the works that deal with the Qur’an in all languages. Bearing in mind that ‘perfect’ translation is no more than an illusion, and that absolute synonymy is nothing but a myth, establishing the meaning of specialized Qur’anic terms with any degree of accuracy is an extremely daunting task, especially when addressing this issue in a language that is not that of the Qur’an. The present work is an attempt to bring the Qur’an a step closer to both the general reader as well as the specialized researcher. In addition to the semantic study of the Qur’anic terms and investigating their translations in six other renowned works, this book also addresses a number of important linguistic and cultural issues that no serious researcher of the Qur’an can afford to miss. Its depth of analysis and extensive notes are meant to save the reader the extraordinary effort required to check a multitude of works necessary to understand the issues at stake.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Qur'an is the living source of all Islamic teaching, and is of singular importance to those interested in Islam and the study of religions. Despite this, there exists a long-felt lack of research tools for English first-language speakers who wish to access the Qur'an in the original Arabic. The "Dictionary of Qur'anic Usage" is the first comprehensive, fully-researched and contextualised Arabic-English dictionary of Qur'anic usage, compiled in accordance with modern lexicographical methods by scholars who have a lifelong immersion in Qur'anic Studies. Based on Classical Arabic dictionaries and Qur'an commentaries, this work also emphasises the role of context in determining the meaning-scatter of each vocabulary item. Illustrative examples from Qur'anic verses are provided in support of the definitions given for each context in which a particular word occurs, with cross-references to other usages. Frequently occurring grammatical particles are likewise thoroughly explained, insofar as they are used in conveying various nuances of meaning in the text.

For the first time and for those who can read Quran in Arabic at an introductory level, a successful method for learning the meaning of The Quran without a need to learn the complex Arabic language is presented in a series of books. The approach is based on the "major words" used in Quran. The students or self-learners, through exercises and easy-to-understand introductory grammars, learn the "major words" used in Quran. For instance, upon completion of Book 1, the students can understand 40% of the meaning of Quran by learning only 110 words which are used 30,000 times in Quran. The author taught the first three books in this series a few times as a test. The results were just amazing and spectacular all the way!!
