For conducting that study we intended to use data collection methods, like: - interview schedule, observation, focused group discussion, case study, etc.

Several countries adopted different models for slum redevelopment, which have had little success in the long-run. However, in majority of slum redevelopment plans, the involvement of women has always been neglected. Women largely experience the worst of the sub-human living condition in the slums, and are more affected by lack of infrastructure and services in the slums. This study is based on the fieldwork completed in the slums in the city of Jaipur, India in 2009, which included interviewing women in slums, and representatives from government and non-government organizations. The research has revealed various reasons supporting the view that women's participation is crucial to slum redevelopment. The thesis examines the different ways in which the women living in the slums may contribute to better planning and execution of slum redevelopment plans, and women's empowerment plays key role in that.

Migration has not been limited to the cities within Bangladesh, but also extended to other global cities. Currently Bangladesh is one of the main origin countries for migrant workers in the world. This book dwells upon gendered lives and livelihoods, exploring the dynamics of this transformation from a subsistence economy into a capitalist one, with an eye on those areas that have been under-researched thus far. The focus on multiple dimensions of the everyday lives of women explored here has revealed the different facets of social transformation and helped us to better understand these processes of change. The essays in this anthology are microcosmic studies deliberately chosen to demonstrate the understated realities of peripheral economies. The subjects vary from indigenous women engaged in jhum cultivation, Dalit women embedded in caste-specific work structures and relations, female-headed households in rural areas, and elderly women from city slums. All of the studies are a product of original fieldwork that has produced rich qualitative data and a limited amount of quantitative data. The main findings are that a modest investment in maternal health services, combined with other poverty reduction measures leads to a fairly rapid decline in the maternal mortality ratio (MMR), defined as the number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births. The strategies of Malaysia and Sri Lanka changed over time, from an initial emphasis on expanding the provision of services, especially in underserved areas, to increasing utilization and, finally, to emphasizing the improvement of quality. Removing financial barriers to maternal care for clients was an important step in both countries. Professional midwives constitute the backbone of maternal care in Malaysia and Sri Lanka. The MMR reduction in developing countries is feasible with modest public expenditures when appropriate policies are adopted, focused wisely, and adapted incrementally in response to environmental conditions and systems capacity.
