Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first and only publication that is a true description of the "nuts and bolts", inside and outside view, "ankle bone connected to the leg bone" step-by-step account of how a rocket belt works and why it was built. It covers everything from servicing and fuelling to the actual learning step-by-step how to fly a Rocket Belt. IT IS NOT INTENDED TO ENCOURAGE ANYONE TO TRY TO BUILD ONE! It explains the science in simple layman terms. You do not need to be a "Rocket Scientist" to read, understand, and most of all, enjoy this book. It answers most of the more often asked questions I was asked in my over 45 years involvement in the project. It offers photos of each and every component of the machine, and explanation, of their relation to one another. It's the first and only autobiographical information about the most misunderstood and aspired-to means of flight.....everyones dream, to simply fly. There have been hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles written about the device and how it began but none tell the story through the eyes of the "man who wrote the book on Rocket Belt flight".

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tracing the remarkable history of a certain kind of flying machine—from the rocket belt to the jet belt to the flying platform and all the way to Yves Rossy's 21st-century free flights using a jet-powered wing—this historical account delves into the technology that made these devices possible and the reasons why they never became commercial successes on a mass scale. These individual lift devices, as they were blandly labeled by the government men who financed much of their development, answered man's desire to simply step outside and take flight. No runways, no wings, no pilot's license were required. But the history of the jet pack did not follow its expected trajectory and the devices that were thought to become as commonplace as cars have instead become one of the most overpromised technologies of all time. This fascinating account profiles the inventors and pilots, the hucksters and cheats, and the businessmen and soldiers who were involved with the machines, and it tells a great American story of a technology whose promise may yet, one day, come to fruition.

Book excerpt: What Is Jet Pack The equipment known as a jet pack, rocket belt, or rocket pack is worn on the back and employs jets of gas or liquid to propel the user through the air. Other names for this kind of gadget are rocket pack and rocket belt. The idea has been a staple in the genre of science fiction for almost to a century, but it didn't start gaining traction until the 1960s. Real jet packs have been developed using a variety of different mechanisms, but their applications are significantly more restricted than those of their fictional counterparts due to the difficulties presented by the Earth's atmosphere, gravity, the low energy density of usable fuels, and the fact that the human body is not suited to flight. Real jet packs are primarily used for stunts. As a result of the apparent lack of gravity and the absence of an environment that generates friction, the jet pack has found a useful use in extra-vehicular exercises performed by astronauts in space. A system that enhances a person's maneuverability and includes a jet pack as well as accompanying jets that are mounted to the arms is referred to as a jet suit. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Jet pack Chapter 2: Jet engine Chapter 3: Ramjet Chapter 4: Aircraft engine Chapter 5: Jet aircraft Chapter 6: Turbojet Chapter 7: Scramjet Chapter 8: Rocket engine Chapter 9: Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket Chapter 10: Propelling nozzle Chapter 11: Airplane Chapter 12: Bell Rocket Belt Chapter 13: Yves Rossy Chapter 14: Air turborocket Chapter 15: Armstrong Siddeley Snarler Chapter 16: Airbreathing jet engine Chapter 17: Powered aircraft Chapter 18: Flyboard Chapter 19: Société d'Etudes pour la Propulsion par Réaction Chapter 20: JetLev Chapter 21: Wendell F. Moore (II) Answering the public top questions about jet pack. (III) Real world examples for the usage of jet pack in many fields. (IV) 17 appendices to explain, briefly, 266 emerging technologies in each industry to have 360-degree full understanding of jet pack' technologies. Who This Book Is For Professionals, undergraduate and graduate students, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and those who want to go beyond basic knowledge or information for any kind of jet pack.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ought¿s A-7 Corsair II served the U.S. Navy for over over two decades, and flew with distinction during the Vietnam conflict. The subsonic A-7 was based on Chance Vought¿s supersonic F-8 Crusader. It boasted a heads-up display, an inertial navigation system, and other innovations. The plane entered service in 1966, and served in Vietnam in late 1967. Its performance was impressive. The USS Ranger¿s VA-147 flew over 1,400 sorties with the loss of only one aircraft. The Air Force purchased an advanced version, the A-7D, equipped with a more powerful engine. The plane later flew missions over Lebanon, Libya, Grenada, Panama, and Iraq. The last planes in U.S inventory were retired in 1991. Originally printed by the U.S. Navy and Vought, this handbook for the A-7 provides a fascinating glimpse inside the cockpit of this famous aircraft. Originally classified ¿restricted¿, the manual was recently declassified and is here reprinted in book form.

Book excerpt: Designed without horizontal stabilizers, the X-4 Bantam had a semi-tailless design that bore some resemblance to Germany¿s Me-163 rocket plane. The small, twin-jet craft relied on combined elevator and aileron surfaces ¿ known as elevons ¿ for pitch and roll control. The role of the X-4 was to explore the transonic speed zone, and to determine whether the design would lessen the stability and control problems affiliated with compressibility. Although two Bantams were built, only one proved mechanically sound. The second was flown over eighty times by Northrop, Air Force and NACA pilots. They learned that the X-4 was sensitive in pitch, and showed a tendency to ¿hunt¿ about all three axes as it approached Mach 1.0. Thus, the X-4¿s design proved a failure. Originally printed by Northrop, NACA and the USAF, this handbook provides a fascinating glimpse inside the cockpit of this experimental plane. The manual was recently declassified and is here reprinted in book form.

It entered service in 1961, and quickly set climb records, earning it the nickname ¿white rocket¿. Nearly 1200 Talons were produced before the last one rolled off the assembly line in 1972. Capable of a speed of Mach 1.3, and a climb rate approaching 34,000 feet per minute, the T-38¿s performance was sufficient to warrant service as the USAF Thunderbirds¿ aircraft in the mid-1970s. Its primary role however, was as a dedicated training and proficiency platform. More than 50,000 USAF, NASA and NATO pilots have flown the Talon, a record that may never be matched. Originally printed by the U.S. Air Force and Northrop, this handbook for the T-38 provides a fascinating glimpse inside the cockpit of this famous aircraft. Originally classified ¿restricted¿, the manual was recently declassified and is here reprinted in book form.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Built as both a fighter-interceptor and fighter-bomber, the F-86 Sabre (sometimes called the Sabrejet) was one of the most widely-produced fighters of the Cold War. In December of 1950, three squadrons of Sabres were rushed into combat in Korea, where they dueled North Korean, Chinese and Russian pilots flying the MiG-15. By the time the war was over, F-86 pilots achieved a stunning victory ratio - destroying nearly 800 enemy aircraft with a loss of only 76 Sabres. The nimble jet also saw combat in the Taiwan Straight Crisis and the Indo-Pakistan Wars of 1965 and 1971. Originally printed by North American and the U.S. Air Force, this F-86 Flight Operating Manual taught pilots everything they needed to know before entering the cockpit. Classified "Restricted," the manual was recently declassified and is here reprinted in book form. This facsimile has been reformatted and color images appear in black and white. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The D-558 aircraft were part of a transonic research program originated by NACA and the U.S. Navy. The D-558-1 Skystreak turbojet was designed in 1945 and first flew in 1947 at Muroc. It quickly set a new world speed record of over 650 miles per hour. Although it approached Mach 1.0 in level flight, the Skystreak could only break the speed of sound in a dive. The successor aircraft, the D-558-2 Skyrocket, was equipped with a turbojet and the same rocket system as Bell¿s X-1. The jet was used for takeoff and landing, and the rockets allowed the aircraft to travel into the transonic zone. The Skyrocket test program began in 1948. In 1953, Scott Cross- field bested that mark and flew into aviation history when he became the first person to reach Mach 2.0 in the plane. Originally printed by the U.S. Navy, NACA and Douglas, this book contains manuals for both of these amazing aircraft. Originally classified ¿Restricted¿, they have been declassified and are here reprinted in book form.
