Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Principal Diseases of Lower Vertebrates presents the material published by Heinz H. Reichenbach-Klinke between 1957 and 1962 in three separate volumes as ""Krankheiten der Aquarienfische"" (Alfred Kernen, Stuttgart), ""Krankheiten der Amphibien,"" and ""Krankheiten der Reptilien"" (Gustav Fischer, Stuttgart). The scope of the work has been enlarged with material contributed by E. Elkan who has also done the translation. Representatives of the main groups of parasites affecting fish have been presented as far as possible. The book is organized into three parts covering the diseases of fishes, amphibians, and reptiles. Experience has shown that those who keep, or are interested in, one kind of lower vertebrate will sooner or later also take an interest in one of the other groups. It was therefore thought expedient to include what is at present known of lower vertebrate pathology in one volume, even at the risk of some repetition where fishes, amphibians, and reptiles suffer from similar diseases or are the victims of identical parasites.

Book excerpt: This volume provides a comprehensive reference for researchers aiming to bring new techniques and approaches to their scientific research using urodeles. Chapters are authored by leaders in the field and meant to guide readers through laboratory colony husbandry, traditional molecular techniques, experimental manipulation and surgeries, bioinformatics and genomics, transgenics and lineage-tracing, and physiological and organismal techniques. In addition to laboratory methods, this volume highlights techniques developed for field studies and work with wild-caught animals. Written in the successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible protocols, and notes on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and state-of-the-art, Methods in Salamander Research aims to be a practical guide for researchers interested in deploying new methodologies in their lab or in the field.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a revised and augmented edition of part of the book Ob"ekty Biologii Razvitiya (Animal Species for Developmental Studies) published in Rus sian in 1975 in the series of monographs Problemy Biologii Razvitiya (Problems of Developmental Biology) by Nauka Publishers, Moscow. That book described the development of organisms most frequently used in developmental biology studies. Data were provided for 22 animal species, belonging to different taxa, from protists to mammals. For the English edition we decided to divide the original book into two parts dealing with vertebrates and invertebrates, respectively. This volume deals with vertebrate species. When choosing these species, their advantages for laboratory studies, infonnation available, and availability for experimentation in the USSR and in Europe were taken into account. This geographical criterion explains the absence in the book of a number of species widely used in the laboratories of the USA, Japan, and other countries, such as Rana pipiens, Cynops pyrrhogaster, and others. Besides the classical laboratory animals, some fish have been described since the study of the mechanisms of their development and attempts to control their on togenesis are of immediate value and the results obtained can be tested on the mass material. A study of the development of laboratory mammals is of special interest since current problems of modern medicine and veterinary sciences are tackled using these animals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is currently a lot of interest within veterinary medicine in both dermatology and exotics, yet, despite this interest, there is no single text available that focuses on both these key areas. This book, for the first time, provides a practical guide to dermatological problems in birds, reptiles, fish and mammals. Divided into the four groups, each section has a chapter introducing the structure and function of the skin of each group, a chapter on examination and diagnostic tests, and further chapters on species specific skin diseases and treatments. Written in a quick reference format and including almost 200 colour photographs, this book is a handy resource for veterinary practitioners, veterinary students and veterinary dermatologists alike.
