Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this encyclopedia is to provide a comprehensive reference work on scientific and other scholarly research on the quality of life, including health-related quality of life research or also called patient-reported outcomes research. Since the 1960s two overlapping but fairly distinct research communities and traditions have developed concerning ideas about the quality of life, individually and collectively, one with a fairly narrow focus on health-related issues and one with a quite broad focus. In many ways, the central issues of these fields have roots extending to the observations and speculations of ancient philosophers, creating a continuous exploration by diverse explorers in diverse historic and cultural circumstances over several centuries of the qualities of human existence. What we have not had so far is a single, multidimensional reference work connecting the most salient and important contributions to the relevant fields. Entries are organized alphabetically and cover basic concepts, relatively well established facts, lawlike and causal relations, theories, methods, standardized tests, biographic entries on significant figures, organizational profiles, indicators and indexes of qualities of individuals and of communities of diverse sizes, including rural areas, towns, cities, counties, provinces, states, regions, countries and groups of countries.

Book Synopsis Strategic Staffing by : Jean Phillips
Download or read book Strategic Staffing written by Jean Phillips and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formerly published by Chicago Business Press, now published by Sage Strategic Staffing, 4e prepares all current and future managers to take a strategic and modern approach to the identification, attraction, selection, deployment, and retention of talent. Organizations increasingly realize that their employees are the key to executing their business strategies, and the current competition for talent has made the identification and attraction of high-performing employees essential for companies to succeed in their marketplaces. The right employees give their organization a competitive advantage that sets it apart and drives its performance. In today’s business environment, a company’s ability to execute its strategy and maintain its competitive edge depends even more on the quality of its employees. And the quality of a company’s employees is directly affected by the quality of its recruiting and staffing systems. Because hiring managers are involved in the staffing process, hiring managers and human resources (HR) professionals need to be familiar with strategic staffing techniques. Over the past 10 years, advancing technology and the increased application of data analytics have changed the practices of sourcing, recruiting, and staffing. Strategic Staffing 4e is grounded in research, communicates practical and modern staffing concepts and the role of staffing in organizational performance, and is engaging to read. The new edition contains updates to many sections on the roles of technology and analytics and adds more focus to the discussion of ethics that was added to the fourth edition. New research findings were also incorporated, and many company examples were updated. The fifth edition of Strategic Staffing continues to present up-to-date staffing theories and practices in an interesting, engaging, and easy-to-read format.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Justice Research in Law by : Joseph Sanders
Download or read book Handbook of Justice Research in Law written by Joseph Sanders and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Justice—a word of great simplicity and almost frightening scope. When we were invited to edit a volume on justice in law, we joked about the small topic we had been assigned. Often humor masks fear, and this was certainly one of those times. Throughout the project, we found daunting the task of covering even a fraction of the topics that usually fall under the umbrella of justice research in law. Ultimately, the organization of the book emerged from the writing of it. Our introductory chapter provides a road map to how the topics weave together, but as is so often the case it was written last, not ?rst. It was only when we had chapters in hand that we began to see how the many strands of justice research might be woven together. Chapters 2–4 on the basic forms of justice—procedural, retributive, and distributive—are the lynchpin of the volume; they provide the building blocks that permit us to think and write about each of the other substantive and applied chapters in terms of how they relate to the fundamental forms of justice. In the large central section of the volume (Chapters 5–9), the contributors address many ways in which the justice dimensions relate to one another. Most important for law is the relationship of perceptions of procedural justice and the two types of substantive justice—retributive and distributive.

Book Synopsis Cultural Influences on the Process of Strategic Management by : Andreas Michael Schühly
Download or read book Cultural Influences on the Process of Strategic Management written by Andreas Michael Schühly and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book is positioned at the crossroads of strategic management and international business. Based on an in-depth literature review, the author empirically assesses the widely shared, implicit assumption that strategic management processes can be globally applied in a standardized, i.e., culture-free, manner. So far, a variety of tools have also been recommended but without incorporating cultural differences. As many organizations observe that this ethnocentric view is more an illusion than reality, strategic management research has started to focus on the cultural sensitivity of its theories, tools, and processes to provide practitioners in a multicultural setting with adequate know-how and tools. To foster long-term decision-making despite uncertainty, scenario planning is frequently applied by practitioners. Up until today, scenario planning has however gained little attention from the academic community. Through this book, the author presents a newly developed framework for strategic management that combines the cultural value scale to test the cultural sensitivity of the long-term planning tool called “scenario planning.” The different process steps of scenario planning have been individually examined for their sensitivity toward the cultural dimensions of uncertainty avoidance and long-term orientation. The investigation is based on a unique, global set of management consultants working for a leading professional service firm. The results of this research show the cultural sensitivity of scenario planning, with different degrees of the process steps and the tested cultural dimensions.
