Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Omar Sonnets, a New Sonnet Form, And, the Lefra Lyrics The second series, consisting of fifty lyrics mostly in the conventional sonnet forms, is very different in tone and content. Here is set forth a part of the love message of a (maya?) Prince (cir. 8000 b.c.) to one, Lefra, whom he would have made his Princess had not considerations of state forbidden. The inscriptions bearing directly on his affaire da coeur are so frag mentary that authorities have thus far been un able to solve the details of it satisfactorily. This much, however, is certain - that the Oriental ardor and sensuousness of the young Prince, as expressed in these sonnets, are such as to rank him among the(world's greatest lover di to corroborate to some extent the theory, at this ancient people and the early Asiatics were closely similar in temperament at least, and that in allprobability the latter were much indebted to the former for their civilization, popular belief to the contrary notwithstanding. Book excerpt: Award-winning Arab Australian poet Omar Sakr presents a pulsating collection of poetry that interrogates the bonds and borders of family, faith, queerness, and nationality. Visceral and energetic, Sakr’s poetry confronts the complicated notion of “belonging” when one’s family, culture, and country are at odds with one’s personal identity. Braiding together sexuality and divinity, conflict and redemption, The Lost Arabs is a fierce, urgent collection from a distinct new voice.

Many Persian poets similarly derive their names from their occupations; thus we have Attar, 'a druggist, ' Assar, 'an oil presser, ' etc. Omar himself alludes to his name in the following whimsical lines: -- "'Khayyam, who stitched the tents of science, Has fallen in grief's furnace and been suddenly burned; The shears of Fate have cut the tent ropes of his life, And the broker of Hope has sold him for We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poems attributed to Omar Khayyam have a universal and timeless philosophical theme: life is a meaningful journey even if brief and uncertain. They inspire an unconstrained free-thinking mindset and a wise realization that guides thinking persons: it is impossible to see the absolute truth, as the universe has its own reality that remains largely hidden, and that one must think and act accordingly. This book presents a selection of Khayyam's poems in their original Persian language along with their English translations in a faithful and modern version. By relying only on the original Persian version of Khayyam's poems, and using the author's own body of literary and linguistic knowledge, this book presents a modern translation of Omar Khayyam's poems since Edward Fitzgerald's Rubaiyat in 1859.
