As he travelled throughout the Western USA, he wrote, sharing his poetry with many of the park rangers he encountered, and now, he’s sharing it with the world. We all share the same elements as the stars in the universe, after all. We are symbiotic with the trees of the world. We breathe out carbon dioxide, which they need, and they give us oxygen, which we need. Eng’s reflections and unique interpretation of the natural world will capture the minds of readers young and old.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Already celebrated far beyond his native Iceland, the novels of Sjón arrive on waves of praise from writers, critics, and readers worldwide. Sjón has won countless international awards and earned ringing comparisons to Borges, Calvino, and Iceland's other literary superstar, the Nobel Prize winner Halldór Laxness. The Whispering Muse is his masterpiece so far. The year is 1949 and Valdimar Haraldsson, an eccentric Icelander with elevated ideas about the influence of fish consumption on Nordic civilization, has had the extraordinary good fortune to be invited to join a Danish merchant ship on its way to the Black Sea. Among the crew is the mythical hero Caeneus, disguised as the second mate. Every evening after dinner he entrances his fellow travelers with the tale of how he sailed with the fabled vessel the Argo on its quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece. What unfolds is a slender but masterful, brilliant, and always entertaining novel that ranges deftly from the comic to the mythic as it weaves together tales of antiquity with the modern world in a voice so singular as to seem possessed.

Book excerpt: With a blend of Wordsworthian poetry style and contemporary American poetic voice, Ken Allan Dronsfield wonderfully weaves human emotions, mysticism and Nature’s beauty as well as its harshness in his poetry. Zephyr’s Whisper will undoubtedly keep on maintaining the balance of soft soothing waltz and strong challenging winds like effects on the hearts and souls of avid poetry readers of all generations Vatsala Radhakeesoon (Mauritian author/poet) An American Mihai Eminescu, Ken Allan Dronsfield always tugged at my heart. His poems are suggestive, imagistic and lined with subtle emotion. Reading this collection of poems, I did have the feeling that the Zephyr was whispering at me. Roxana Nastase (Romanian/Canadian writer/poet/editor) Whispers from the Zephyr Sugar cane flowing like ocean waves Florida winds blow as egret’s hunt lunch tapestry woven in a wildness of saw grass buzzards perch high on branches of oak dragonflies rest on blades of palmetto unscrupulous clouds build to a zephyr horizontal rains pelt all within the glades saunters by quickly; sun now reappears. Book excerpt: Enjoy vivid descriptions of nature, and memories blended with imagination and imagery from the author's personal photo collections in this fanciful new short story collection! Some say that whenever we see or hear something, it is permanently etched in our brains. Sometimes memories return to haunt us, sometimes to amuse us, and sometimes to make us laugh. Sometimes what we see or hear appears in our dreams, obscured and blended with other memories or fantasies. Neuroscience is complex, and the wonders of the human mind are amazing. Nilayan Basu brings this concept to life in his new short story collection. In "Whispers of Love in Tearful World," the tales are imaginary but have distinct ties to real-world events. The natural tendency of the human spirit to seek peace forms the core of Nilayan's soothing, eloquent prose.

Book excerpt: This set includes books 31-36 in the Sugar Creek Gang Series: The Tree House Mystery, The Cemetery Vandals, The Battle of the Bees, Locked in the Attic, The Runaway Rescue, and The Case of the Missing Calf. In The Tree House Mystery, a rainy day gets Bill Collins thinking, "What the Gang needs is a tree house!" So with Poetry's family's old lawn umbrella and some elaborate thatch work, the boys create their own headquarters down by the river. Soon they discover that someone's living in their tree house! And when their guest turns out to be an African American man, prejudice rears it's ugly head within the Gang. Join the Sugar Creek Gang as they learn that the value of people has nothing to do with their skin color. In The Cemetery Vandals, the Sugar Creek Gang swings into action when the boys discover filthy language painted on the bridge abutments, a hole in their rowboat, and Sarah Paddler's tombstone knocked over at the cemetery. A chase ensues when some of the gang find two of the vandals in Old Man Paddler's cabin. Can Bill Collins make it to the cave in time to trap them? See how God works everything out for good as the criminals are captured with the help of the Gang's arch enemy. In The Battle of the Bees, what kind of trouble can Bill Collins get into when he's spending the afternoon babysitting his little sister, Charlotte Ann? Plenty! The Gang find themselves in the middle of a war between two of the beehives in Mr. Collins honey bee yard. A note from Old Man Paddler challenges the Sugar Creek Gang with a riddle that reveals more than they bargained for as they uncover a trespassing boy up at his cabin in the woods. Join the Sugar Creek Gang as they learn a few lessons about loving as Jesus does. In Locked in the Attic, Bill Collins's cousin's dog, Alexander, saved the gang, but lost his own life in a battle with a wildcat. Now Alexander's grave is in danger of being washed away by a flash flood. In relocating Alexander's grave to Tom the Trapper's dog cemetery, the gang discovers the hideout of an escaped criminal. They're trapped! Will evil triumph over good, or will the gang be taken hostage by this dangerous man? See how God protects those who trust in Him. In The Runaway Rescue, Bill and Poetry stumble over a lost red shoe on the way to Old Man Paddler's cabin. Not too much later, they discover who it belong to- a girl who's run away from home. But what this missing girl doesn't know is that she's been bitten by a rabid pet and will die if she doesn't get to a hospital soon! Can the gang track down the girl and get her to safety before it's too late? See how God can uses us when we help others. In The Case of the Missing Calf, the gang springs into action looking for clues when Wandering Winnie, Little Jim's Hereford calf, is nabbed by cattle rustlers. But in chasing down the culprits, Bill and Poetry end up on a wild ride in the back of the thieves' pick-up truck. What if they're discovered? How are they going to escape? Through some quick thinking and footwork, the gang not only captures the cattle rustlers, but learns that giving is better than receiving.

Book excerpt: Ilu bụ ịnyịnya nke asụsụ Igbo, ya mere ọbụrụ na eziokwu na-efu efu, anyi ga-eji ilu Igbo chọta ya Proverbs are the horses of the Igbo language, so if the truth goes missing, we use Igbo Proverbs to find it. Wit meets poets, and wordsmiths contend with contemporary sages in this collection of classic maxim capers. Can Dandy Ahuruonye save the day? In this sphere known as Igbo philosophy, every maxim act as a raw material for the general preferment of metaphysical reflection. It becomes obvious therefore that these ancient Proverbs play a critical role serving as perpetual escorts to the African viewpoint, in her desperate search for contextual truth. Such truths, and the fascinating conundrum that comes with them, can only be unlocked through the use of traditional proverbs. This captivating assemblage represents the first major exhibition of historical Proverbs of traditional Igbo origin; alongside Proverbs from around the world. The Igbo regard Proverbs as a cherished patrimony bequeathed them by wise ancestors who sought to use concise verities to teach their progeny. I compiled this encyclopaedia of Proverbs by using validations gleaned from oral tradition, archived records, other authentic sources, and utterances from various reputable elders, who also double as custodians of their heritage. My own knowledge of local and regional Proverbs helped to provide this rare insight into the roots of the diverse pearls of wisdom that have served Igbo speakers for aeons. Ultimately, my aim is to use these maxims to contribute to the general debate on the genesis, efficacy, and relevance of contemporary Igbo and other Proverbs, including their handouts, not just to the West African sub-region, but to all mankind. This encyclopaedia reviews the history of proverbs in general–From ancient Egypt, to medieval Israel; and from NOK, to the Benin Kingdom. The book also showcases hundreds of proverbs from other world cultures. What makes this reference book unique is that it presents a section containing hundreds of maxims with parallel applications; while also allowing the reader to make his or her own rendering of the meaning of proverbs in other sections. The guidebook contains over 400 original images from certified and authentic sources. The motivation to publish a book showcasing ancient African Proverbs side by side with equivalent English renderings is because many of these Proverbs require an explanation so as to appeal to Western and general readers. Also, many Igbo speakers do not know the meanings or context of their own ancestral maxims. Enjoy!

Book excerpt: Battles heat up... not only those being waged by the soldiers on both sides fighting for Spain, but in the hearts and minds of the men and women who must sacrifice more than their dreams in order to save the lives of their loved ones. In this meticulously researched novel, brave and idealistic Sophie, Philip, Josÿ©, and Deion realize their only hope for freedom is escaping Spain's borders. By continuing the story of this band of volunteers during the Spanish Civil War, A Whisper of Freedom proves that courage and commitment don't always result in outward victory. But there are whispers of hope and freedom that resonate through even the darkest night.

Book excerpt: The Whispering Gallery: Being Leaves from the Diary of an Ex-Diplomat, which first appeared anonymously in 1926, takes the form of a portrait gallery, consisting of brief biographical sketches of public figures. Three chapters treat single individuals: Lord Northcliffe (‘The Napoleon of Fleet Street’), Lord Leverhulme (‘The Soap King’), and Edward VII (‘The Peacemaker’). The other chapters mostly group several subjects by profession: the ‘Warriors’ include Lord Kitchener, Lord Roberts, John French, and Marshal Joffre; the chapter on ‘Empire-Builders’ juxtaposes Cecil Rhodes with Joseph Chamberlain; the ‘Three Caesars’ are the Kaiser, the Tsar and Franz Josef; the ‘Two Despots’ are Mussolini and Lenin; the ‘Scribblers’ include H. G. Wells, Bernard Shaw, Thomas Hardy, Henry James, Rudyard Kipling and Mark Twain. “To move in high social or diplomatic circles is to live in a whispering-gallery. No secret can be breathed without the startling reverberation of rumor from an unexpected quarter. The secrets I breathe afresh in these pages the reader may have heard in the echo of hearsay, an echo which distorts the words that were actually spoken and alters the very character of the speakers themselves.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of all the Victorian poets, Edward Lear has a good claim to the widest audience: admired and championed by critics and poets from John Ruskin to John Ashbery, he has also been read, heard, and loved by generations of children. As a central figure in the literature of nonsense, Lear has also shaped the evolution of modern literature, and his work continues to influence and inspire writers and readers today. This collection of essays-the first ever devoted solely to Lear-builds on a recent resurgence of critical interest and asks how it is that the play of Lear's poetry continues to delight, and to challenge our sense of what poetry can be. These seventeen chapters, written by established and emerging critics of poetry, seek to explore and appreciate the playfulness embodied in the poems, and to provide contexts in which it can be better understood and enjoyed. They consider how Lear's poems play off various inheritances (the literary fool, Romantic lyric, his religious upbringing), explore particular forms in which his playful genius took flight (his letters, his queer writings about love), and trace lines of Learical influence and inheritance by showing how other poets and thinkers across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries played off Lear in their turn (Joyce, Stein, Eliot, Auden, Smith, Ashbery, and others).

Children can see the world in unique ways with their interpretations of life, happiness, hope, justice, and love. A child poet can bring innocence yet inspire us with unanticipated wisdom to understand the unseen connections and beauty all around us. As Armaan Singh reminds us in his poem: We continue to look outside for knowledge Never to see ourselves True wisdom comes from your soul Not the books on our shelves We try to fly on others wings Not daring to take off on your own The blind men see what most of the seeing can not They face their own soul and then write the plot In this wonderful collection of poems, we are invited to ponder, reflect, and reimagine. But ultimately, we are asked to rethink how communities can regain their commitment and regard for one another and work toward making the world a better place for the upcoming generation.
