Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When my son was four years old, he prayed for a baby sister with blue eyes and red hair. We adopted her; all the miracles in this book are true. From the beginning, my son has always had a special connection with God. He talks to Him. He's now a doctor when he was in med school. I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. I was waiting to have both breasts removed. My son was doing an autopsy. After he was done, he rushed into the waiting room where we were waiting. He said, "Mom, why are you here? You're supposed to be in surgery." Then he stopped. "It's probably okay because your breast cancer is all gone." I didn't believe him as usual, and he said, "Stop it." A nurse came rushing into the waiting room and asked, "Do you have your records?" I told her no, and she took us in a hurry to the main operating area. They lost all my records and had to do the mammograms all over after reading all the tests. Four doctors came in and said, "You can put your clothes on and go home. What you had two weeks ago is completely gone" I started crying and said, "My son has been fasting and praying for forty days and forty nights." I moved to Texas. Eighteen years ago, my daughter has been to the hospital to see what the sex of her new child would be and was told she must abort the baby. In the ultrasound, both legs and arms were broken. My son began praying, and before the delivery, he fasted and prayed for forty days again, and my granddaughter just turned eighteen alive and well--another miracle. Any other miracles are included in my book. God is in control, and if we truly believe, anything is possible.

Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • More than one million copies sold! A “brilliant” (Lupita Nyong’o, Time), “poignant” (Entertainment Weekly), “soul-nourishing” (USA Today) memoir about coming of age during the twilight of apartheid “Noah’s childhood stories are told with all the hilarity and intellect that characterizes his comedy, while illuminating a dark and brutal period in South Africa’s history that must never be forgotten.”—Esquire Winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor and an NAACP Image Award • Named one of the best books of the year by The New York Time, USA Today, San Francisco Chronicle, NPR, Esquire, Newsday, and Booklist Trevor Noah’s unlikely path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of The Daily Show began with a criminal act: his birth. Trevor was born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother at a time when such a union was punishable by five years in prison. Living proof of his parents’ indiscretion, Trevor was kept mostly indoors for the earliest years of his life, bound by the extreme and often absurd measures his mother took to hide him from a government that could, at any moment, steal him away. Finally liberated by the end of South Africa’s tyrannical white rule, Trevor and his mother set forth on a grand adventure, living openly and freely and embracing the opportunities won by a centuries-long struggle. Born a Crime is the story of a mischievous young boy who grows into a restless young man as he struggles to find himself in a world where he was never supposed to exist. It is also the story of that young man’s relationship with his fearless, rebellious, and fervently religious mother—his teammate, a woman determined to save her son from the cycle of poverty, violence, and abuse that would ultimately threaten her own life. The stories collected here are by turns hilarious, dramatic, and deeply affecting. Whether subsisting on caterpillars for dinner during hard times, being thrown from a moving car during an attempted kidnapping, or just trying to survive the life-and-death pitfalls of dating in high school, Trevor illuminates his curious world with an incisive wit and unflinching honesty. His stories weave together to form a moving and searingly funny portrait of a boy making his way through a damaged world in a dangerous time, armed only with a keen sense of humor and a mother’s unconventional, unconditional love.

The Bible states that only six people reproduced after Noah's flood. Is the Bible's claim reasonable? Could six people grow to billions in just a few thousand years? When mathematics is applied to the test, an unemotional, logical answer is produced.

Book excerpt: The host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah, shares his personal story and the injustices he faced while growing up half black, half white in South Africa under and after apartheid in this New York Times bestselling young readers' adaptation of his adult memoir. “A piercing reminder that every mad life--even yours--could end up a masterpiece." --JASON REYNOLDS, New York Times bestselling author We do horrible things to one another because we don’t see the person it affects. . . . We don’t see them as people. Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central, shares his remarkable story of growing up in South Africa with a black South African mother and a white European father at a time when it was against the law for a mixed-race child to exist. But he did exist--and from the beginning, the often-misbehaved Trevor used his keen smarts and humor to navigate a harsh life under a racist government. In a country where racism barred blacks from social, educational, and economic opportunity, Trevor surmounted staggering obstacles and created a promising future for himself thanks to his mom’s unwavering love and indomitable will. This honest and poignant memoir adapted from the #1 New York Times bestseller Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood will astound and inspire readers as well as offer a fascinating perspective on South Africa’s tumultuous racial history. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.” -H.L. Mencken The Left used to be the party of the hippies and the free spirits. Now it’s home to woke scolds and humorless idealogues. The New Puritans can judge a person’s moral character by their clothes, Netflix queue, fast food favorites, the sports they watch, and the company they keep. No choice is neutral, no sphere is private. Not since the Puritans has a political movement wanted so much power over your thoughts, hobbies, and preferences every minute of your day. In the process, they are sucking the joy out of life. In The Rise of the New Puritans, Noah Rothman explains how, in pursuit of a better world, progressives are ruining the very things which make life worth living. They’ve created a society full of verbal trip wires and digital witch hunts. Football? Too violent. Fusion food? Appropriation. The nuclear family? Oppressive. Witty, deeply researched, and thorough, The Rise of the New Puritans encourages us to spurn a movement whose primary goal has become limiting happiness. It uncovers the historical roots of the left’s war on fun and reminds us of the freedom and personal fulfillment at the heart of the American experiment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1997, M. E. R. Mathivha, an elder of the black Jewish Lemba people of South Africa, announced to the Lemba Cultural Association that a recent DNA study substantiated their ancestral connections to Jews. Lemba people subsequently leveraged their genetic test results to seek recognition from the post-apartheid government as indigenous Africans with rights to traditional leadership and land, retheorizing genetic ancestry in the process. In Genetic Afterlives, Noah Tamarkin illustrates how Lemba people give their own meanings to the results of DNA tests and employ them to manage competing claims of Jewish ethnic and religious identity, African indigeneity, and South African citizenship. Tamarkin turns away from genetics researchers' results that defined a single story of Lemba peoples' “true” origins and toward Lemba understandings of their own genealogy as multivalent. Guided by Lemba people’s negotiations of their belonging as diasporic Jews, South African citizens, and indigenous Africans, Tamarkin considers new ways to think about belonging that can acknowledge the importance of historical and sacred ties to land without valorizing autochthony, borders, or other technologies of exclusion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The World has been changing...and fast...since the 1990's as cell phones, computers, and the worldwide Web brought communication/information to anyone, anywhere, anytime. In adapting to these changes, the world had become more transparent...and what it discovered was that Europe, America, and other English speaking countries were living the "good life" with an abundance of food, housing, clothing, education, medical access, public safety, transportation and communication choices, and leisure time while some three billion people were living on less than three dollars a day. Three dollars a day for these three billion people meant living in squalor from over-crowed shelters to cardboard boxes; from soup kitchens to rifling garbage bins; from unsuitable, ill-fitting clothes to being mostly naked; from limited access to no access for education, medicine, safety, transportation, or communication. Since most of this group lived in polluted environments, we may refer to them as living a shitty life. Then on September 11, 2001, a group of that claimed to represent the outcasts of society and their view of the world -wide injustices threw a monkey wrench into the white-gloved tea-time world with the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York City... The only problem was that this wake-up call came too late for both the haves and have not's.

Book excerpt: "Old Captain Noah is frustrated. He and his wife are at odds about what could and should be done as to enticing an entire menagerie into his ark for their own self preservation. Pairs of animals arrive and complications arise about signing them up and finding them proper quarters. Only the intercession of a dynamic blues singing angel spiced with written messages from the Lord helps to restore some semblance of sanity to the situation. Then discrimination among the animals takes place. Unicorns and Griffins prefer to become extinct rather than associate with the likes of rats, skunks and others. But after forty days and nights, their stormy voyage on the ark is ended -- and its passengers depart for a brave new world and new complications in accommodations on terra firma. "--Publisher.
