Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Sunday-School Teacher's Pedagogy, Vol. 3 The N ational Teacher-training Institute is a department of the American Baptist Publication Society. For years this Society has, through its State Sunday-school mission aries, conducted teacher-training work, each missionary doing the work after his own heart. The awakening of the country to the crying need of religious education, and of the church to the fact that the Sunday-school is first and foremost in the winning of the world to Christ, calls for a uniform and up-to-date system of teacher-training. This system the Society now offers to the public in the work of its National Teacher-training Institute. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Apt to Teach: First Book on Teacher Training The increase in the number of text books on teacher-train ing is a sure indication of the growth of the interest manifested by our Sunday-schools in the need of training men and women for this great work of the Christian Church. But if this training is to be applied only to the work in the Sunday-school, then the efforts that are being put forth to increase the facilities for such training would hardly be warranted. It is being discovered that this training of the teachers gives them a more intelligent outlook upon the unlimited opportunities for Christian service in the home. The introduction to systematic, comprehensive Bible study, the knowledge of child development, and of the laws governing the spiritual and moral education Will prepare our young people for the real life work awaiting them, as the fathers and mothers of the coming generation. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Teacher Training in North Carolina In 1900 there were white public school teachers and'2,567 negro public school teachers making a grand total Of teachers. A quarter of a century later there were white' and 5, 309 negro teachers or a total Of 22, 257 public school teachers. During this twenty-five year period, the number of teachers increased steadily and by 1925 the number employed was practically two and one -fifth times as great as the number employed during the year ending 1900. The per cent Of increase during the period 1900-1925 for urban teachers, both white and colored, was greater than the per cent Of increase for the number of rural teachers and the rate Of increase for whites was greater than the rate Of increase for negroes. The greatest factor in determining this rapid increase in number Of public school teachers has been the increase in school. Attendance. In 1901 there were white and negro children in average daily attend ance. For the school year ending 1925, there were white children and negro children or a grand total Of children in average daily attendance in the public schools. There were, therefore, two and two fifths times as many white children in average daily attendance during 1925 as there were in 1901. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Teacher-Training Handbook Revised: First Standard Teacher-Training Course Scarcely second in importance to adequate preparation for teaching is a vision of the dignity, importance and possibili ties which the Sunday School teacher enjoys. No teacher in any institution of learning comes more directly in touch with the formative and constructive principles of human life and character. The subject matter taught, the conditions of the teaching, and the issues dependent on good teaching and bad teaching are the most momentous and, important to be found in any department of human instruction. For this reason, the vision of the Sunday School is followed in order with a vision of the mind with which the Sunday School teacher must deal. The influence of the modern Sun day School begins in the home. When the babe is brought into the world the Sunday School makes immediate claim on the life of both the mother and the new life which 'god has sent. Until the last problem which vexes maturity and age is solved, the Sunday School claims a right to deal with the human mind. The technical view of the mind and its develop ment is subordinated, throughout the discussion of the pupil. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religious Education: A Comprehensive Text Book This Text Book is the outcome of a wide demand for a complete Handbook, covering fully all phases of Religious Education in the Church. There was no such book hitherto extant. It took a library of some thirty or more volumes to cover the necessary field, as laid down in the Standard Course for teacher-training set forth by the Joint Commission on Sunday Schools. Such reading was overwhelm ing, unnecessary (for often but a few pages or precepts of a writer applied directly to Religious Education), and costly in the purchase of so many volumes. The author prepared a smaller book, Sunday School Teaching, a compilation of authorities covering 175 pages, in 1903, which has gone through three large editions in five years, being the Guide Book for the training of several thousand Sunday School teachers, of all religious bodies. Even day school educators found it suggestive and illuminat ing. It will be continued in the market. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
