Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Miracle of Independence is a general survey of American History from a Christian perspective. It covers the events beginning with the Age of Exploration to the Second Great Awakening. This manuscript reveals that America would have never existed nor survived without divine intervention. The hand of God is seen in the formation of this country from the time Columbus set sail with three caravels across a large uncharted ocean. God's presence is revealed with the founding of the original thirteen colonies and in the zeal of the God fearing people who inhabited these colonies. God's miraculous power manifested itself when the forces of darkness seemed overwhelming. This was true in the early years of settlement, during the War of Independence, and in the post war era. Against great odds America survived, grew, and developed into the greatest of all nations that ever existed, due to the miraculous power of an ever present and loving God. Robert M. Riffle was born in 1941 in McClellandtown, Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools of German Township, Fayette County, and he graduated from German Township High School in 1959. He received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Waynesburg College, nowWaynesburg University in 1963. He later took graduate courses in history, political science, and English at West Virginia University. He taught history for seven years in the Albert Gallatin Area School District in Fayette County, Pennsylvania prior to moving to southern California. He taught history and social studies in San Diego County for twenty-four years and retired from the San Diego Unified School District. He is presently employed by Palomar College in San Marcos, California as a tutor in history, political science, and economics.

Book excerpt: For 16-year-old Tzipi Caton, 11th grade meant exams, friends, homework, and play tryouts. Suddenly, it meant cancer. Facing a cold, new world of tests, IVs, biopsies, needles and cell-destroying chemicals, Tzipi made a decision. She'd face the reality of her illness with honesty and humor; she'd keep a detailed, upbeat account of the entire experience. Miracle Ride is Tzipi's remarkable journal. We cry with her; we laugh at her outrageous jokes and pranks. We meet her friends, her family, and the neighbors, classmates, teachers and professionals who stood by her. We catch an insider's view of the poignant stories of the cancer patients she befriended. Tzipi's brilliant entries glow with courage, wit and warmth. Though Tzipi's story is uncommon, the issues she confronts are universal: keeping relationships strong while under great strain, the often-misguided demand for perfection in a potential marriage partner, and, most important, our search for G-d's Presen

Book excerpt: Initially this writer had the opportunity to share my personal Miracle Bedtime Stories with an 8-year-old child who would regularly ask, “Sharron, would you tell me a bedtime story?” I thought for a while and replied "Emily, I’m not good at fairytales but I can tell you stories that are true Miracle Stories. Would you like that?" To my surprise Emily loved the Miracle Bedtime Stories! At one point I wondered, what will I do if I run out of Miracle stories? Much to my amazement, I realized that we live in a world where miracles are happening all around us. All we need to do is open our minds and hearts to receive and to be aware of the world of miracles in which we live. As I shared these stories with the young and old, I was inspired to begin documenting my miracle stories trusting that they would bring hope to a hurting world.

Book excerpt: From bestselling author Michael Gurian comes a spiritual thriller that will change the way you look at the world forever. The car crash that killed Jeffrey, a child of prophecy, was a dreadful tragedy. But for the twelve witnesses to this terrible moment it was an incident that set off a string of spiritual awakenings and inexplicable miracles that would forever transform their lives. For Beth Carey and the others, including a serial murderer who calls himself the Light Killer, the events of that late-summer evening pulled back the veil that separates life and death. Though all witnessed the same doorway of light open over the dying boy's body, only Beth will discover the invisible world that binds all human life together. As she evolves into the "new human" forecast centuries ago by St. Teresa of Avila, and as the Light Killer confronts inner storms of human evil, forty-eight hours of miracles reveal the poignant faces of human vulnerability, and the hidden face of God. Vivid, often breathtaking, The Miracle is part old-fashioned mystery, part new-age revelation. A fascinating and dramatic look at the subtle links between all life, it offers an answer to the greatest mystery of them all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Miracle Tree is the fifth book in the series of The Adventures of Harry and Paul. The novel contains deep religious tones with insight and influences of the Lutheran Church in America. It is a humorous, yet poignant and heartwarming novel, based upon the continuing adventures of the author's two famous characters, Harry M. Redmond Junior and his longtime friend, Lutheran Pastor Paul John Henson. Now grown into manhood, The Miracle Tree finds our two friends; deeply involved in their own individual lives, careers, and relationships, but still retaining that special friendship and bond, in which they have enjoyed for many years. In The Miracle Tree, Harry and Paul face their greatest challenge ever. It is a challenge, which shakes the very foundation of their lives, faith, and their own relationship. Already a victim of tragedy when his first wife passed away after a horrific and valiant battle with cancer, when tragedy looms once again, Harry turns to his best friend, now a Lutheran pastor for help. Harry turns to the one person that he believes in more than anyone this side of Heaven in order to perform a miracle. A miracle of faith, a miracle of belief, and a miracle that right now seems impossible. Full of self-doubts, yet committed, and determined, Pastor Paul combines his love for his friend and their families with raw emotion, his deep religious faith, and intense prayer to find the answer and the miracle that they all require. Amongst the triumph and tragedy and the ultimate joy of this remarkable story, the author retains the trademark humor that is consistent with all the Adventures of Harry and Paul, with one of his famous humorous chapters, “The Quest for Peppermint Ice Cream” ranking as one of the author’s top humorous writing moments. To quote the author’s preface for The Miracle Tree, “Those readers who are very religious in their beliefs will interpret The Miracle Tree to be a religious fantasy book. Those readers, who are not religious, will see it in their own way, as a book about simple faith, strange coincidences, trust, and support between close friends, husband and wife, and families. They will see it as a book that displays how people who love and support one another will always survive, no matter what happens. I will leave it to the individual readers to enjoy in their own manner.” Come along on another wonderful Harry and Paul adventure, as told by the master storyteller, Mr. Paul John Hausleben.

Have you ever seen a talented dressage rider performing an exquisite test, her seat seemingly melding with her horse’s back, and his movements airy, animated, and effortless? Or, perhaps you have watched a great cutting horse at work, his direction and momentum changing on a dime as he reads his cow, his rider’s body flowing fluidly above him as if they were one. We all dream of experiencing this kind of connection with our horses, and in this groundbreaking new book, James Shaw shows us how the practice of Tai Chi—an ancient Chinese art that unifies the body, mind, and spirit in a series of flowing movements—can help us achieve it. His methods will enable you to: develop a sensitive seat; learn to use your breath as an aid; reduce tension unconsciously held in your hands; lower and expand your center of balance; create free movement in your lower back and spine; heal pain and stiffness in your body; and much more. James’ techniques have worked for hundreds or riders, and with practice, they will work for you. As you gain Tai Chi experience and apply it to you rider, you will find your horsemanship becoming not just more skilled, but more deeply satisfying.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since World War II, tourists have flocked to Florida's northwest Gulf Coast and sun and fun spots at Panama City Beach, Fort Walton Beach, and Pensacola Beach. Every year those visitors number in the millions. For those who long to recall how the vacationland appeared thirty, forty, or even fifty years ago, Tim Hollis has written Florida's Miracle Strip: From Redneck Riviera to Emerald Coast. In a style that informs and entertains, Hollis describes the rise of early developments, such as Long Beach Resort, and major tourist attractions, such as the Gulfarium and the Miracle Strip Amusement Park. With heartfelt nostalgia and a dose of tongue-in-cheek, he reminisces on the motels and tourist cottages; the restaurants, such as Captain Anderson's and Staff's; the elaborate miniature golf courses, such as Goofy Golf and its many imitators. He takes a special delight in recovering the memories of those quirky businesses that now exist only in faded photographs and aging postcards, such wacky tourist traps as Castle Dracula, Petticoat Junction, Tombstone Territory, and the Snake-A-Torium. In the book, Hollis examines how this area became known as the "Miracle Strip," and how the local chambers of commerce got so tired of that image that the name gradually fell into disuse. The book is illustrated with a profusion of vintage photos and advertisements, most of which have not been seen in print since their original appearances. For the nostalgia lover, the snowbird, the tourist seeking yesteryear, Florida's Miracle Strip: From Redneck Riviera to Emerald Coast will be a welcome traveling companion.

Book excerpt: The People Who Doubted You Are In for the Shock of Their Lives Mitch Horowitz, “a cross between Aleister Crowley and Alan Watts” (Duncan Trussell), delivers this generation’s most literate and liberating self-help book in The Miracle Habits. Mitch shows how to foster a life of revolutionary self-direction through thirteen “Miracle Habits”—radical but workable commitments that allow you to “Spend for Power” (Habit 8), “Get Away from Cruel People” (Habit 6), “Rule In Hell” (Habit 13), and produce fortuitous events surpassing all expectation in career, creativity, relationships, charisma, and self-respect. “This book,” Mitch writes, “is about more than cultivating sanctioned notions of success or acceptance. It is not about being 10% happier, ‘good enough,’ or reorganizing your sock drawer. It is about fostering miracles. Not as a once-in-a-lifetime experience but as a recurring and natural part of life.” Washington Post: “Treats esoteric ideas and movements with an even-handed intellectual studiousness that is too often lost in today’s raised-voice discussions.” Paris Match: “Convincing...takes us far from naive doctrines.” David Lynch: “Mitch is solid gold.”

Book excerpt: “A great and insightful” (Keith Hernandez, New York Mets legend and broadcaster) New York Times bestselling account of an iconic team in baseball history: the 1969 New York Mets—a last-place team that turned it all around in just one season—told by ’69 Mets outfielder Art Shamsky, Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver, and other teammates who reminisce about that legendary season and their enduring bonds decades later. The New York Mets franchise began in 1962 and the team finished in last place nearly every year. When the 1969 season began, fans weren’t expecting much from “the Lovable Losers.” But as the season progressed, the Mets inched closer to first place and then eventually clinched the National League pennant. They were underdogs against the formidable Baltimore Orioles, but beat them in five games to become world champions. No one had predicted it. In fact, fans could hardly believe it happened. Suddenly they were “the Miracle Mets.” Playing right field for the ’69 Mets was Art Shamsky, who had stayed in touch with his former teammates over the years. He hoped to get together with star pitcher Tom Seaver (who would win the Cy Young award as the best pitcher in the league in 1969 and go on to become the first Met elected to the Hall of Fame), but Seaver was ailing and could not travel. So, Shamsky organized a visit to “Tom Terrific” in California, accompanied by the #2 pitcher, Jerry Koosman, outfielder Ron Swoboda, and shortstop Bud Harrelson. Together they recalled the highlights of that amazing season as they reminisced about what changed the Mets’ fortunes in 1969. In this “enjoyable tale of a storybook season” (Kirkus Reviews), and with the help of sportswriter Erik Sherman, Shamsky has written the “revealing” (New York Newsday) After the Miracle for the 1969 Mets. “This heartfelt, nostalgic memoir will delight baseball fans of all ages and allegiances” (Publishers Weekly). It’s a book that every Mets fan must own.
