The general subject of this series of messages is “Meeting God’s Need and Present Needs in the Lord’s Recovery.” We must see that God has His need. No matter what our human needs or the churches’ needs are, God’s need is much greater. To see God’s need, we need to realize that God has a will, a good pleasure, which is His heart’s desire. God’s good pleasure, that which makes Him happy, is the fulfillment of His eternal purpose to have His eternal habitation for His eternal expression. In order for His will to be done on earth and for His eternal purpose to be fulfilled, God needs our cooperation. He has placed His almighty power under the limitation of the human will; hence, only when He has gained a people who will cooperate with Him by being totally responsive to Him will He have an unhindered way to accomplish His will. God also needs to recover the earth from His enemy by man’s dealing with Satan and subduing and conquering the rebellious earth. Moreover, God needs the “family of Noah” to build the church as today’s ark to terminate the present crooked and perverted age and bring in God’s kingdom. God needs the man-child, the overcomers in the church, as His dispensational instrument for His greatest dispensational move to end the age and bring in His kingdom. To be constituted as overcomers, we must realize that through regeneration we have been made a new creation. As such, we need to walk in newness of life, to serve in newness of spirit, and to be renewed daily. Furthermore, we daily need to labor on the all-inclusive Christ as the good land by seeking and enjoying Christ in every situation. Especially as elders and responsible ones, we should enter into Christ’s wonderful shepherding in His heavenly ministry by enjoying and ministering Christ to shepherd the church of God as a slave of God. In meeting the Lord’s need, prayer is our most direct and intimate cooperation with Him. Prayer is to absorb the elements of the soil of Christ [4] as the good land and to express what God has spoken within us by our contacting and fellowshipping with Him. The best prayer is to pray to God as a friend, as portrayed in Abraham’s glorious intercession, his intimate conversation with God. This kind of intercession expresses God’s desire and carries out His will. The general subject of this series of messages is "God's Economy in Faith." God's economy is God's household administration, which is to dispense Himself in Christ into His chosen and redeemed people that He may have a house to express Himself, which house is the church, the Body of Christ. God's economy is initiated and developed in the sphere of faith (1 Tim. 1:4). Faith is the substantiation of the divine facts concerning God revealed in His Word. Faith is the unique requirement for us to contact God in His economy and the unique way for us to carry out His economy. Faith is a proclamation that we are unable to fulfill God's requirements but that God has done everything for us and that we receive all God has planned for us, all God has done for us, and all God has given to us. For this reason, as believers, we need to be persons of prayer who pray with God as our faith. The real significance of prayer is to contact God in our spirit and to absorb God Himself. A praying person will cooperate with God, work together with God, and allow God to express Himself and His desire from within him and through him, thereby enabling God to accomplish His purpose. All the saints need faith and are the household of faith. The leading ones are particularly charged to be men full of faith in order that they can infuse the saints under their care with faith so that all can experience God's economy daily and even moment by moment. The leading ones' manner of life, the way they live and conduct themselves, should be worthy of consideration and an example of faith that is worthy of imitation (Heb. 13:7). When those who take the lead have such imitable faith, they are participating in the apostolic ministry, which cooperates with Christ's heavenly ministry to shepherd the saints according to God (Acts 20:28). We live the Christian life and run the Christian race by looking away unto Jesus--the Author, the Originator, of our faith and the Perfecter, the Completer, of our faith--and by turning away from every other object to Him who is the greatest attraction in the universe. If we look away unto Him as such a wonderful and all-inclusive One, He will minister Himself as heaven, life, and strength into us, transfusing and infusing us with all that He is, so that we may be able to run the heavenly race and live the heavenly life on earth. In this way He will carry us through all the lifelong pathway of faith and lead and bring us into glory. Furthermore, our faith in Christ brings us into the life union with Christ. This faith links us to the Triune God and enables us to run the race that every saved Christian must run with endurance to win the prize. We can live the Christian life, live Christ, by this linking organ of faith. By this faith we are joined to God in Christ to participate in all that the all-inclusive Christ is, has, and has attained to, for the producing of the organic members of Christ to constitute and build up His organic Body, which will consummate in the New Jerusalem as the enlargement and expression of the eternal Triune God. Book excerpt: This issue of The Ministry of the Word contains the three messages from the Southern California Blending Conference and Messages 4 and 5 from the special conference held in Anaheim, California, respectively, on June 10-11 and February 17-19, 2017. The general subject of the blending conference is "The Vision, Ministry, and Ministers of the Age." In every age there is a particular vision given by God, a specific ministry of that age, and a minister or ministers used by God to fulfill their commission to bear, release, and trumpet the ministry of that age. In every age God gives a particular vision that guards, controls, and governs His people so that they may serve Him according to the vision of that age. The governing vision of the Bible is the Triune God working Himself into His chosen and redeemed people in order to saturate their entire being with the Divine Trinity for the producing and building up of the Body of Christ consummating in the New Jerusalem. The vision that the Lord has given to His recovery is an all-inclusive vision--the all-inheriting vision of the age. Our vision extends all the way from Adam's vision of the tree of life in the garden of Eden to the New Jerusalem with the tree of life. The ministry of this age builds up the Body of Christ, which is to build up the New Jerusalem; prepares the bride of Christ, which is to prepare the New Jerusalem because the New Jerusalem is the bride of Christ; and brings in the kingdom of God, the ultimate manifestation and consummation of which is the New Jerusalem. Therefore, the ministry of this age fulfills the direction of the Lord's move today. The ministry of the age ministers the present truth to God's people. The present truth, the highest peak of the divine revelation given to us by God through the ministry of this age, is the revelation of the eternal economy of God. God becoming man so that man might become God in life and in nature but not in the Godhead is the essence of the entire Bible, the "diamond" in the "box" of the Bible, the eternal economy of God. God and man will become one entity, and that one entity is the mingling of divinity with humanity, which will consummate in the New Jerusalem, the conclusion of the entire Bible. The ministers of the age are those who have the vision of the age and the ministry of the age and know what God is speaking and doing in the present age. The ministers of the age are patterns to the believers so that they may be perfected to do the work of the ministry for the building up of the Body of Christ. The ministers of the age have four characteristics: First, they are men who allow their natural ability to be terminated by the cross so that all their ability is in resurrection. Second, they are tree-of-life persons. Third, they know the central work of God. Fourth, they pay more attention to life than to work. The general subject of the special conference is "Special Fellowship concerning the World Situation and the Lord's Move." Messages 4 and 5 of this special conference were spoken in English and therefore are included in this issue. The general subject of this series of messages is "Taking Christ as Our Person and Living Him in and for the Church Life." God's intention in His economy is to work Himself into us not only as our life but also as our person. A wonderful person, Christ as the life-giving Spirit, came into our spirit, regenerated our spirit, and mingled Himself with our spirit, causing our spirit to become our inner man with Christ as the person indwelling our spirit. When we are strengthened with power into our inner man, the Christ in our spirit is able to spread into our heart. Our heart is the acting agent that represents us. As regenerated persons, our inner man is now our real person. Our inner man is now Christ as our person. If we live by the outer man, the old man, it is impossible to have the church life. In order for Christ to be our person, He needs to make His home in our heart; that is, He needs to be able to actually live in our heart. Then we will live Him by walking according to the spirit. When we allow Christ to actually live in our heart, He becomes our person in practice. The most important quality with regard to a leading one is his person, not his capacity, ability, or gift in carrying out a work, serving, or taking the lead. A leading one must have an enlarged heart. Pride, an expression of foolishness, comes from having a narrow heart. A leading one should have an enlarged and loving heart, and he should have a powerful and exercised spirit; that is, he should be dominated, governed, directed, led, and controlled by his spirit. When a leading one has been fully reconciled to God and has been enlarged in heart, he can represent God rightly in His economy. Every day we need to live Christ in and for the church life by walking according to the spirit. If we would live Christ, we must take Him as our person and live one person with Him. The Lord Jesus was the Pioneer, the model, example, and pattern of how all believers should live today. The first God-man lived out another person--the Father. In Jesus we see not only the man but also God living in, through, and as that man. Living Christ and walking according to the spirit are actually one matter. Living Christ requires that we love Him to the uttermost. If we do not love the Lord, we cannot live Him. The practical way to live Christ is to walk according to the spirit. Ultimately, the Bible requires only one thing of us--that we walk according to the mingled spirit. To walk in the spirit is to do everything in our daily life according to the spirit. The central thought of the Bible is that God desires us to live Christ for the building up of the Body of Christ. The Lord's shepherding in His heavenly ministry is to take care of the church, which is His Body. Christ has incorporated the apostolic ministry into His heavenly ministry in order to shepherd God's flock, the church, which issues in the Body of Christ. The elders must preach the gospel by the way of shepherding, and they must bring in a revival by the way of shepherding. They must shepherd the saints in everything and in every way for the dispensing of Christ into them. We all need to shepherd people according to the pattern of the Lord Jesus, cherish the saints in the humanity of Jesus, and nourish them in the divinity of Christ. If we all participate in Christ's shepherding, there will be a revival in the Lord's recovery. The general subject of this series of messages is “The One New Man Fulfilling God’s Purpose in Creating Man.” The eternal purpose of God is to have a corporate man to express Him and represent Him. For this purpose God created man in His image and according to His likeness so that through His economy man may receive His life and nature and thereby become His expression. God’s intention in giving man dominion is for him to exercise God’s authority over the earth in order that the kingdom of God may come to the earth. However, the first man, Adam, became damaged and degraded; therefore, he failed to fulfill God’s purpose in creating man. Christ, as the second man and the last Adam, became a prototype and pattern of the expression, living, conduct, and work of the new man who fulfills God’s intention. In His humanity Christ expressed the bountiful God in His rich attributes through His aromatic virtues. Christ’s God-man living constituted Him to be a prototype so that He may be reproduced in us and live again in us, the church as the Body of Christ and the new man. The church, the Body of Christ, is the one new man to accomplish God’s eternal purpose. On the cross Christ created the new man in Himself by abolishing in His flesh the law of the commandments in ordinances—forms or ways of living and worship, which create enmity and division. As the Body of Christ, the church needs Christ as its life; as the one new man, the church needs Christ as its person. The cross abolished the ordinances in order to give place to the Spirit. The more we are in the mingling of the divine Spirit with our human spirit, the more we will be set free from ordinances in order to bring forth the one new man. The goal of the Lord’s recovery is to bring forth the corporate one new man. The creation of the new man was completed on the cross, but the renewal of the new man is still going on today. For the practical existence and reality of the one new man, we need to put off the old man and put on the new man by being renewed in the spirit of our mind and by taking Christ as our person. The renewing of our mind and of our entire being is carried out by the renewing Spirit being mingled with our regenerated spirit as one mingled spirit to spread into our mind. When we live our life by taking Christ as our person, especially in making decisions, our living will be the living of the new man. Moreover, for the bringing forth of the one new man, we must grow and mature in life by growing up into Christ in all things. The reality and practicality of the new man require our persevering in particular prayer, such as the prayers modeled by Paul in Ephesians 3:14-17 and the Lord Jesus in John 17, which is our response to Christ’s activities in His heavenly ministry. Furthermore, we must labor and struggle according to the operation of God to dispense Christ into others in order to present every man full-grown in Christ until we all arrive at the oneness of the faith, a full-grown man, and the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. The dispensing of Christ is a service carried out by all believers as faithful stewards of the mysteries of God, which is Christ and the church. A steward is a dispenser, one who dispenses the divine life supply to God’s children. The stewardship of grace is the dispensing of the riches of Christ into our being so that we may grow and become the church. All the local churches in the different countries are the one new man; thus, they need to practice the church life in the consciousness of the new man. If we take Christ as our life and as our person in the new man and with the new man, spontaneously we all will speak the same thing and do the same one work for the unique Body, the universal one new man. In this way the new man will grow and mature, and we will arrive at a full-grown man. This will be the ultimate church life—a universal new man taking Christ as his person and living out Christ; this will conclude this age, usher in the kingdom, and bring the Lord back. Book excerpt: This issue of The Ministry of the Word contains the first eight of the sixteen messages given during the fall 2022 term of the full-time training in Anaheim, California. The general subject of this series of messages is "Living in the Reality of the Body of Christ by Learning Christ as the Reality Is in Jesus." The phrase learning Christ as the reality is in Jesus is based on Ephesians 4:20-21. The reality...in Jesus refers to the actual condition of the life of Jesus that is recorded in the four Gospels. The actual condition of the life of Christ, who is God, is His living God in the four Gospels. Everything He did was in God, with God, by God, for God, through God, and to God. God was in His living, and He was one with God.The desire of God's heart is that the reality of the Body of Christ, which is "the reality…in Jesus" (Eph. 4:21), would be duplicated in the many members of Christ's Body by the Spirit of reality to become the reality of the Body of Christ, the highest peak in God's economy. He wants His God-man living seen in the four Gospels to be reproduced in us. To learn Christ means that we learn Christ experientially, enjoyably, and subjectively. The One we are enjoying is the Lord as the Spirit of reality in our spirit. The Spirit guides us into all the realities of God's eternal economy. The Lord wants the actual condition of His life to be reproduced in each one of us as members of the Body individually as well as in us all corporately. The corporate living of the perfected God-man, the reality of the Body of Christ, is the reality that is in Jesus.Every detail, aspect, and feature of the New Jerusalem is actually the reality in Jesus in its consummate state. Thus, Christ wants the life that He lived in the four Gospels duplicated and reproduced in us until we become the New Jerusalem. The Lord's recovery is to build up Zion as the reality of the Body of Christ by living out and working out the New Jerusalem. To live out the New Jerusalem is to become the New Jerusalem, and to work out the New Jerusalem is to build the New Jerusalem.The Announcements section at the end of this issue contains a list of upcoming conferences and trainings hosted by Living Stream Ministry and a website link for information related to similar events in Europe.
