Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Holos Arts Project, Publishing Co., begins its Collection: Library of Classical Wisdom and Mysticism, with an important text on the study of theories of reincarnation: The Memory of Past Births, by Charles Johnston, scholar on the subject. It is a real honor to introduce readers attracted to topics of esotericism and mysticism, to this great author who, with a simple and accessible language for all audiences, presents in a bright and precise way, what is the process which the soul transits after leaving the material body, until reaching the new body in an eternal cycle of living and reincarnation. Similarly, throughout the book, the author explains the various theories available of the reasons why we do not remember our past lives, to finally provide his personal proposal for an effective process to recover and bring to the present such memories. Charles Johnston (1867–1931), originally from Northern Ireland, was a renowned writer, academic, and journalist. He was a founding member of the Dublin Hermetic Society in 1885 and joined the Dublin Theosophic Lodge in 1886. Later in his life, he became a member of the Civil Service in India, on behalf of the British Crown, where he had the opportunity to initiate one of his greatest passions: the translation of various literary jewels from the Sanskrit to the English language. This annotated edition of The Memory of Past Births, is now brought to the present, in a modern publication (Note from the editors: with editorial supervision by Isis Estrada, writer of Reiki: Manual with the Three Levels according to the teachings of Dr. Mikao Usui; and Spanish translator of The Great Initiates, by Edouard Schuré). The intention of Holos Arts Project is to relaunch texts of importance that not only have overcome the barrier of time and space, but that are also very current in terms of the topics and questions that still remain in the minds of the adept to mysticism: do we live many lives? And more importantly: what can we do to remember them? Johnston brilliantly brought the millenary knowledge acquired in his travels through the East, and presented it in his own time. with great focus and accuracy. Now, it is up to us not to allow his work to lose force, especially when it carries among its words an inexhaustible source of wisdom from which we are still thirsty. We present now, therefore, The Memory of Past Births, and we are certain it will become part of your favorite readings on the subjects of transmigration, as well as reincarnation of the soul.

Book excerpt: By reading the title, The Memory of Past Births, you have already taken the first step towards remembering, for you have sowed in your mind the seed of an idea which will germinate and grow till at last it blossoms into full knowledge. Of those who receive this thought of endless life through many births, most accept it at once with a conviction which runs ahead of evidence; many hold it tentatively with gradually growing credence; none altogether reject or forget it. The thought remains, the seed stirs and grows, and as rebirth is a true law of life, every turn and incident of life gives it new force, till at last belief ripens into certainty. That certainty of the larger life wherein the lives and deaths of this our world are but as days and nights, lightens the burden of death, dulls the edge of sorrow, takes away the terror of separation. Immortality, the dearest hope in every human heart, becomes once more credible and intelligible; nay more, demands and compels our belief. We begin to catch the light of our immortal selves, the gleam from beyond the heavens which shall illumine our hidden past, and, still greater boon, bring clear vision of the path before us, winding through the mists and shadows of the valley, till it rises at last into the everlasting sunshine.

Book excerpt: Has your child lived before? In this fascinating, controversial, and groundbreaking book, Carol Bowman reveals overwhelming evidence of past life memories in children. Not only are such experiences real, they are far more common than most people realize. Bowman's extraordinary investigation was sparked when her young son, Chase, described his own past-life death on a Civil War battlefield--an account so accurate it was authenticated by an expert historian. Even more astonishing, Chase's chronic eczema and phobia of loud noises completely disappeared after he had the memory. Inspired by Chase's dramatic healing, Bowman compiled dozens of cases and wrote this comprehensive study to explain how very young children remember their past lives, spontaneously and naturally. In Children's Past Lives, she tells how to distinguish between a true past life memory and a fantasy, offers practical advice to parents on how to respond to a past life memory, and shows how to foster the spiritual and healing benefits of these experiences. Perhaps the most moving, convincing, and best-documented evidence yet for life after death, Children's Past Lives will stand alongside the classics of Betty J. Eadie, Raymond Moody, and Brian Weiss in its power to comfort, uplift, and transform our thinking about life after death

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Secret of Progress Buckle1 regarded it as clear that militarism and high intellectual development were not compatible: till recently, many people were prepared to believe that warfare was alien to the interest of civilised peoples and could only occur among half civilised or backward races. But this war has shown that these hopes were vain, and that the last result of civilisation was not to render war impossible, but to give the means of carrying it out on a vastly extended scale. The increase of knowledge and of power over nature, and the sense of the benefits of intercourse and inter-communication have not sufficed to give us any immunity from war. He must be hard to please who cannot find intense enjoyment in the Eclogues of Phineas Fletcher, in Cowley's epitaph on Harvey, in the Miltonic stanzas of Gray's Installation Ode, in a score of other pieces, grave, quaint, or classical in their allusive ness of phrasing. Especially grateful must we be to the number of poets, of exquisite feeling and easy mastery of form, who during the last fifty or sixty years have enriched the language with delicate and elegant verse, from which it has been only too difficult to choose because its quantity is so great and its merit so even. Of this we trust we have given a tolerably adequate selection but it would have been easy to multiply it fourfold. Book excerpt: Excerpt from On Some Antiquities in the Neighbourhood of Dunecht House Aberdeenshire It was known to the archaeologist that there were ogam inscriptions in the district, two Of them being among the most important in Caledonia; and that within an easy motor drive there was a minuscule inscription of six lines Of which no satisfactory explanation had been given. This inscription they had visited in a previous year. Further, the quick eye Of the hostess of Dunecht had caught sight of some curious sculptures on a stone by the road-side on the way to the minus cule inscription; and other like stones in the neighbourhood had been shewn in Stuart's two volumes of Sculptural Stones of Scotland. The suggestion was then made that for the sake of visitors at Dunecht a sort Of guide book should be prepared, giving some simple description of the several Objects and their meaning and uses. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Memories of the Past: Records of Ministerial Life The first few pages of this volume will show the circumstances that led to its publication, and at the same time indicate somewhat of its general nature, or at least its original design. As it was not meant to be either an autobiography or a consecutive history of persons and events, no chronological order has been observed in its composition; and it has been so much shaped by incidental suggestion and association of thought as to have almost wholly precluded selection of materials and pre-arrangement of parts. It is as if the writer had been carried forward by some extraneous impulse on the lines of continually extending recollection, with many an unexpected opening to side views along the Line.
