Book excerpt: Being overweight isn't a crime--it's just something shameful, Andrea's mother is quick to remind her. But that's to be expected in a world where technology and magic makes body goals and perfection attainable. ***** Andrea's mother has high hopes for a male heir to lead their household. Andrea must find a husband--and fast. Without a perfect body, however, there are few prospects. For Andrea, on the verge of being disowned, the inability to control something as simple as her weight further exemplifies her other failings. She heralds from the noble class, lovers of tech who frown upon mingling with the servant magic wielders. But with only one year to secure the title of the estate, Andrea has few options. Opportunity arrives when a damaged magic wielder named Tanner comes to her estate looking for work. Servants of his creed wouldn't dare associate with nobles usually. Andrea's head tells her to be suspicious, but Tanner, who's easy on the eyes, looks like a great opportunity. He also takes interest in Andrea, something no one else does. For the first time in Andrea's life, everything seems possible...if only she could quiet that stupid voice in her head warning this is too good to be true. What price would you pay for perfection?

He led me out of the darkness and into the light. The last 40 years of my life I have held on to his loving grace. Book excerpt: A hometown series full of sexy romance, humor, and heart... Pregnant and betrayed at fifteen, Bernadette Mitchell made the agonizing decision to let her father and stepmother adopt her baby. Grateful to have her child in her life, even if she'll never be called mom, she’s learned to live with her choice—until an unthinkable tragedy brings the ghosts of her past back to town. Officer Mike Donovan moves back home to Redemption to raise his little girl, but he’s also on a mission—to win back the only woman he’s ever loved. If he can convince Bernie to give him another chance, he’ll spend the rest of their lives proving they belong together. But when he discovers she’s been keeping an unimaginable secret, his entire world is flipped on its axis. EXCERPT: He strode purposefully toward their table, but stopped short when he caught the tail end of Marone’s last comment. “…and I was hoping we could give it another try. I’d love to take you out to dinner one night this week.” Sonofabitch. Mike waited with bated breath as Bernie looked down at her lap, a sure sign she was uncomfortable. A good sign, from Mike’s viewpoint. Though it didn’t mean she would turn the guy down either. Unwilling to take that chance, he cleared his throat. Loudly. Marone glanced over, a frown quirking his brow. “Hey, Mike. Something you need to talk to me about?” “Not you. I was hoping I could steal Bernadette away for a few minutes.” He met her gaze. “I think we should talk.” Panic darkened her eyes. “Is it Noah? Did something happen?” He nodded. Desperate times and all that. “I just need a few minutes. But if now isn’t a good time…” “We were kind of in the middle of something,” Marone pointed out, his words clipped as his annoyance started to show. Bernie touched his leg, setting Mike’s teeth on edge. “I’m sorry. Just give me a minute, please.” His smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Sure. Think I’ll go pour myself another glass of lemonade. Can I get you anything?” “I’d love another glass as well, thanks.” “I’ll be back in a few minutes.” “Take your time,” Mike told him as he strode away. Bernie stood and watched him expectantly. “Well? What is it?” “I, uh, just wanted to apologize for yesterday.” Her brows rose. “For what, exactly?” “You know. The whole tip jar thing. I should have given it a few days, waited to see if the money turned up before calling you.” She stared at him, her exasperation clear. “And that’s it? You had me worried to death, dammit.” “Sorry. I just—” “You just overheard John asking me out on a date, and your macho pride couldn’t wait for my response, so you decided to kill the moment.” Damn if she didn’t hit the nail on the head. “Pffft. No.” She crossed her arms and pursed her lips. Those luscious, perfectly shaped lips. “Okay, maybe.” She chuckled, the sound music to Mike’s ears. “Very mature of you.” He stepped forward until he was close enough to pull her into his arms. A soft gasp told him she might not be as indifferent to him as she put on. Not wanting to set back the tiny bit of progress he’d made, he stuck his hands in his pockets, deciding to keep things moving at a slow and steady pace. “Marone isn’t the guy for you.” “And I suppose you are?” she countered, her tone challenging. “You’re damn right I am. And if you’d give me half a chance, I could prove it to you.” “How?” she whispered. That one breathless word tightened Mike’s groin with near painful anticipation. He reached up and traced the line of her jaw with his forefinger before gently tilting her chin up. “A kiss. Just one kiss is all it’ll take to convince you we belong together.”

Download or read book A Jew Like Me and You written by Dan Munteno and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2006-12 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dan Munteno (this is a pseudonym) was born in Romania, into a middle-class secular Jewish family. He lived through the unpleasantness of the communist regime until age 17 years, when the whole family emigrated to Israel in the 70's. After finishing high school, he went to the military, then left Israel for medical studies in Italy. He returned to Israel for specialist training and was later sent to Africa, on an internationally-supported Israeli medical mission. Since 1991 he lives and works in South Africa and was naturalized a South African citizen in 1994. His hobbies are long-distance trips to the surrounding countries of Swaziland and Mocambique, and collecting Southern African paintings. Dan Munteno is divorced, his 23-years old daughter is a student in Jerusalem and his 20-year old son is still in the military. " This is the power of memory combined with an expressive, almost journalistic style. Dan Munteno is able to convey his feelings of hope for a better, united world, and to share his joy of living even in times of sorrow. Very pleasant to read" Concetta De Vivo Dukes, lawyer, Johannesburg "This book comes from the heart. The stories, written in an unpretentious narrative, present ordinary people who behave unexpectedly in challenging moments of their lives. I have enjoyed them a lot. They brought tears to my eyes, as well as laughter. Because after all the differences between us are lifted, we connect with our souls and discover joy and peace." Mirjana Lovric, physician, Boksburg, South Africa " I have enjoyed reading this work. In each short story I felt like having a glimpse of people, events and countries, through a window that was opened only for a fraction of time. The personages were real in their life-time, and they are real in my mind ." Emmanuelle Kabamba, physician, preacher and writer, Boksburg, S Africa "Munteno's book is fun, witty and easy to read. I have "traveled" with it along the Mediterranean Sea toward South Africa, "met" different people, customs and faiths, and enjoyed most of them" Tracy Matthews, medical technologist, Boksburg, South Africa
