Book Synopsis Modern Marine Engineer's Manual by : Everett C. Hunt
Download or read book Modern Marine Engineer's Manual written by Everett C. Hunt and published by Cornell Maritime Press/Tidewater Publishers. This book was released on 1999 with total page 1296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to serve as a textbook for students and a reference for today's engineering officers, port engineers, superintendent engineers, and other maritime professionals. Steam turbine propulsion systems are included, but the coverage has been reduced in recognition of the popularity of main propulsion diesel engines, covered in volume 2, and the anticipated increasing applications of aeroderivative gas turbines. Reciprocating steam engines have been eliminated. Pumps, pumping systems, and heat exchangers are given extensive coverage. Computer applications for machinery and system management are presented, including an entire chapter on maintenance management. Relevant material on international and national laws, classification society requirements, and standards, such as ISO 9000 series and the ISM code, are included in the text. The characteristics of fuels are presented along with a discussion of fuel testing and analysis, and a section on bunkering. A chapter on safety and management discusses shipboard engineering operations, shipyard repair planning and economics, and safety management. Each chapter includes review questions and references for additional study.

Book Synopsis Reeds Vol 4: Naval Architecture for Marine Engineers by : Richard Pemberton
Download or read book Reeds Vol 4: Naval Architecture for Marine Engineers written by Richard Pemberton and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-10-03 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essential textbook for all students preparing for Marine Engineer Officer exams. Covering the theoretical, fundamental aspects of naval architecture, this textbook is aimed at students preparing for the Class 1 and Class 2 Marine Engineer Officer exams. It introduces the foundation themes within naval architecture (hydrostatics, stability, resistance and powering), using worked examples to show how solutions should be presented for an exam. The topics are ordered as they might be in a typical taught module, to aid the use of the book by lecturers as a complement to a course. The text and figures continue to be updated in line with modern practice. Many of the figures are three-dimensional diagrams. The book also includes sample examination questions with worked examples to aid students in their learning. As well as an expanded section on stability that considers inclining experiments, this new edition also factors in changes within the industry as it moves towards Net Zero propulsion. Due to the pace of innovation, students who qualify today will see big changes during their careers, and this edition anticipates this and prepares students for such developments.

Book Synopsis Probabilistic Methods for Structural Design by : Carlos Guedes Soares
Download or read book Probabilistic Methods for Structural Design written by Carlos Guedes Soares and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains contributions from various authors on different important topics related with probabilistic methods used for the design of structures. Initially several of the papers were prepared for advanced courses on structural reliability or on probabilistic methods for structural design. These courses have been held in different countries and have been given by different groups of lecturers. They were aimed at engineers and researchers who already had some exposure to structural reliability methods and thus they presented overviews of the work in the various topics. The book includes a selection of those contributions, which can be of support for future courses or for engineers and researchers that want to have an update on specific topics. It is considered a complement to the existing textbooks on structural reliability, which normally ensure the coverage of the basic topics but then are not extensive enough to cover some more specialised aspects. In addition to the contributions drawn from those lectures there are several papers that have been prepared specifically for this book, aiming at complementing the others in providing an overall account of the recent advances in the field. It is with sadness that in the meanwhile we have seen the disappearance of two of the contributors to the book and, in fact two of the early contributors to this field.
