Upon arriving in the Realm, eleven-year-old Shaylee and her friends learn they are the long-awaited princesses of the Six Kingdoms, and each girl has a unique magical power tied to her creative talents. But the kingdoms are in ruin thanks to an evil force that has drained nearly all of the power from the Wellspring of Magic. As if that wasn't bad enough, the door between the real world and the Realm is stuck! It can't be opened again -- and the girls can't go home -- until the magic is restored to the Wellspring. Shaylee and her friends must work together using their creative abilities, such as dancing, painting, and beading, to channel powers they never knew they had and fight the dark forces threatening to destroy the Realm. Their adventure will bring them face-to-face with gigantic grizzly bears claiming to be their protectors, green-skinned fairy folks, a scaly river dragon, vampire spiders, and killer plants -- things none of the girls expected to face during their summer break. Can they master their new powers in time to turn back the dark forces that want to trap them in the Realm forever? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In early modern England, the practice of ritual or ceremonial magic - the attempted communication with angels and demons - both reinforced and subverted existing concepts of gender. The majority of male magicians acted from a position of control and command commensurate with their social position in a patriarchal society; other men, however, used the notion of magic to subvert gender ideals while still aiming to attain hegemony. Whilst women who claimed to perform magic were usually more submissive in their attempted dealings with the spirit world, some female practitioners employed magic to undermine the patriarchal culture and further their own agenda. Frances Timbers studies the practice of ritual magic in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries focusing especially on gender and sexual perspectives. Using the examples of well-known individuals who set themselves up as magicians (including John Dee, Simon Forman and William Lilly), as well as unpublished diaries and journals, literature and legal records, this book provides a unique analysis of early modern ceremonial magic from a gender perspective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, I visited with my great nieces, their parents and grandmother. They were as excited about my visit as I was to experience them and all their tales of wonder. Most of their chit chat was very lively and reminded me to not be an adult in their company. Upon getting ready to leave, they were thrilled to show me (their aunt who they know as an artist) their artwork on canvas boards. Well to say the least their artistic abilities blew me away. Without regard for shape or color co-ordination, there was paint, applied on every inch of the surface and texture created by whatever means possible. It instantly impressed on me how like a child one has to think when creating art and story line for children. I left with a feeling of renewed purpose and that was to write and paint pictures for my first childrens story book..! It did not take me long to have the characters painted on 14 x 14 gallery frameless canvases and a story line playing in my mind, As I continued to create paintings of the House on the hill where Emma lived and her best friend Jake who lived next door, then to the family pet, Sparky the Dalmatian puppy. The Magical Adventure takes Emma and Jake to a Sailing Ferry Boat which crosses a shallow stream with lots to see. Upon their arrival to the park, the brilliant large sun captivates them as they wander throughout the large flowers and brilliant green trees and shrubs. What they encounter along the path of the park, are many vivid and lively creatures all entertaining and educational. Enjoy "The Magical Adventures of Emma and Jake" as illustrated and written by Mary Ann Barker
