Book excerpt: This is a book about unity and the equality of all people. Its contents are drawn from the writings of the Bahá'í Faith, a religion founded on the belief that humankind is one family--a family that should be celebrated and honored for its diversity and not defined by difference and division. The Universal House of Justice, the international governing body of the Faith, describes the oneness of mankind as "a spiritual truth which all the human sciences confirm," and goes on to say that "anthropology, physiology, psychology, recognize only one human species, albeit infinitely varied in the secondary aspects of life. Recognition of this truth requires abandonment of prejudice--prejudice of every kind--race, class, color, creed, nation, sex, degree of material civilization, everything which enables people to consider themselves superior to others." The vision offered by the Bahá'í Faith is not merely one of spiritual principles and high ideals but one that provides a practical roadmap for community building and the elimination of prejudice of all kinds. While global and universal in scope, the Faith's writings place a spotlight on the United States in particular. These writings emphasize the vital need to address the issues of race within the country and paint a picture of a hopeful and glorious destiny to which the American people can rise. With texts stretching from the latter half of the nineteenth century right up to the present day, The Power of Unity contains timeless spiritual wisdom accompanied by insight designed to put that wisdom into practice in the modern age.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Twelve Powers is a metaphysical look at twelve expressions of the divine power inherent in each of us. Expressions such as love, faith, strength, zeal, and imagination are discussed. Jesus prophesied of the time when we who would sit with him on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. This book explains the meaning of this mystical reference, what and where the twelve thrones are, and what attainments are necessary by us before we can follow Jesus in this phase of regeneration. Generation sustains and perpetuates the human; regeneration unfolds and glorifies the divine. It is not expected that beginners in the study of metaphysical Christianity will understand this book. It deals with forces that function below and above the field of the conscious mind. The average religious thinker knows nothing about the sub-conscious mind and very little about the super-conscious; this book presupposes a working knowledge of both. This book aims to clear up the mystery that ever envelops the advent, life, and death of Jesus. Here is your copy of this classic New Thought book. Read it, follow it, meditate on it and you can use the twelve powers.

Book excerpt: This volume provides Dilthey's most mature and best formulation of his Critique of Historical Reason. It begins with three "Studies Toward the Foundation of the Human Sciences," in which Dilthey refashions Husserlian concepts to describe the basic structures of consciousness relevant to historical understanding. The volume next presents the major 1910 work The Formation of the Historical World in the Human Sciences. Here Dilthey considers the degree to which carriers of history--individuals, cultures, institutions, and communities--can be articulated as productive systems capable of generating value and meaning and of realizing purposes. Hegel's idea of objective spirit is reconceived in a more empirical form to designate the medium of commonality in which historical beings are immersed. Any universal claims about history need to be framed within the specific productive systems analyzed by the various human sciences. Dilthey's drafts for the Continuation of the Formation contain extensive discussions of the categories most important for our knowledge of historical life: meaning, value, purpose, time, and development. He also examines the contributions of autobiography to historical understanding and of biography to scientific history. The finest summary of Dilthey's views on hermeneutics can be found in "The Understanding of Other Persons and Their Manifestations of Life." Here, Dilthey differentiates understanding relative to three kinds of manifestations of life. After giving his analysis of elementary understanding, he examines the role of induction in higher understanding and interpretation, and the relevance of transposition and re-experiencing for grasping individuality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Hindu India both orality and sonality have enjoyed great cultural significance since earliest times. They have a distinct influence on how people approach texts. The importance of sound and its perception has led to rites, models of cosmic order, and abstract formulas. Sound serves both to stimulate religious feelings and to give them a sensory form. Starting from the perception and interpretation of sound, the authors chart an unorthodox cultural history of India, turning their attention to an important, but often neglected aspect of daily religious life. They provide a stimulating contribution to the study of cultural systems of perception that also adds new aspects to the debate on orality and literality.
