Book excerpt: The now famous Vale Owen messages began after the mother of the Vicar of Orford, the Rev. George Vale Owen, passed away in 1909. Shortly afterwards, Vale Owen's wife developed an aptitude for automatic writing and through her he received messages instructing him to sit quietly, with a pencil in hand, and write down any thoughts which came into his mind. After a time, he came to understand that the thoughts were coming from an external force rather than his own consciousness. At first the messages were vague and drifted from one subject to another but gradually they began to take form and he began to receive information unbeknown to him. Most of the early messages came from an entity claiming to be Vale Owen's mother and a communicator named Kathleen, who assisted by acting as an intermediary between his deceased mother and himself. Aside from Vale Owen's mother, many of the messages came from a group of entities that wanted to relay information about the afterlife and what we can expect when we get there. Vale Owen came to the attention of Lord Northcliffe, the 'press baron' of the day. Northcliffe was so impressed with the messages he published them in his newspaper, the Weekly Dispatch. Given that this was the era of World War I, the messages gave hope to many that their loved ones killed in battle, far from disappearing into oblivion, had transitioned to another plane of existence. Subsequently, the messages were combined into this series of four books entitled, "The Life Beyond the Veil."

Book excerpt: The Life Beyond the Veil contains a series of communications from various personalities "on the other side," received and written down by the Rev. G. Vale Owen, Vicar of Orford, Lancashire, England. It was first published as four separate books: The Lowlands of Heaven (1920), The Highlands of Heaven (1920), The Ministry of Heaven (1921), and The Battalions of Heaven (1921). This volume combines all four works, and includes revised and standardized introductory pages. As described by Editor H. W. Engholm in his introduction to Book I, The Life Beyond the Veil brings us "face to face with a Spiritual Universe of unimaginable immensity and grandeur, with sphere upon sphere of the realms of light which stretch away into infinity. We are told that those who have passed from our earth life inhabit the nearer spheres, amid surroundings not wholly dissimilar from those they have known in this world; that at death we shall enter the sphere for which our spiritual development fits us. There is to be no sudden change in our personality. We shall not be plunged into forgetfulness. A human being is not transformed into another being. . . . So small a thing is the change which we call death . . . that many do not realize it. They have to be taught that they are in another world, the world of reunion. . . ." Books II, III and IV cover a wider range than the first book, more fully explaining the afterlife and giving, in H.W.E.'s words, "a little more of those 'many things' designed to broaden our vision, strengthen our faith, and help us to realize more fully the wonderful things which God has in store for all those that love Him." * * * "Is it subversive of old beliefs? A thousand times No. It broadens them, it defines them, it beautifies them, it fills in the empty voids which have bewildered us . . . it is infinitely reassuring and illuminating."-Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Softcover: This book was originally published in England in 1920. The recorder is the Rev. G. Vale Owen, vicar of Orford, Lancashire. The famous Arthur Conan Doyle, someone who had a great deal of interest in Life after Death, contributed an introduction to all five volumes. The messages contained in this book were also published in a daily newspaper by the owner Lord Northcliffe. As such they were widely read, and widely acclaimed. Rev. George Vale Owen was even asked to go down to London to deliver a sermon on these communications. There did not appear to be any significant theological objections from the Church of England to what was set out, and in fact it was accepted that these communications were genuine "inspirational writings", that the Rev. G. Vale Owen was genuine, and that the writings were of great value. It is curious therefor that they have slipped into relative obscurity only 100 years later, even though they were widely accepted within the Church of England and beyond.

Book excerpt: Contains a series of communications from various personalities 'on the other side', received and written down by the Rev. G. Vale Owen, Vicar of Orford, Lancashire. This is the first Volume, The Lowlands of Heaven."It should be clearly understood that these messages, while complete in themselves, deal chiefly with the "Sphere of Light" nearest to the earth in which the Vicar's mother, who is the principal communicator, states that she dwells, and that her impressions are chiefly individual to herself and are thus those of a newcomer and learner whose experiences are limited to a restricted area. Wider regions and greater heights and depths are explored, the inter-relation of this and the after-life is more fully explained, and both narrative and exposition of aims and principles are more vigorous, clear and comprehensive in succeeding messages, contained in other volumes of the series which follow this. That said, however, the high importance and far-reaching significance of this volume must be affirmed. It gives the most complete and most detailed statement of conditions in the after-life yet published. It must be read and studied in order to gain an understanding of the further messages."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Softcover: This is the second volume of a five volume set received in the period 1913 on, and first published in 1920. The recorder is Rev. George Vale Owen, vicar of Orford, Lancashire. The messages published in this book were serialised in a daily newspaper by the owner Lord Northcliffe. As such they were widely acclaimed. This particular volume is recited by Zabdiel, a spirit residing in what we would call the Fifth Sphere, but which in this series is called the Tenth. Many topics are covered, and once again you get the feeling that you are a part of the action. He describes his own home, the inter-relation of the various spheres, creation of the species, the blindness of intellectual arrogance, many of the Temples and wonderful events of glorious thanksgiving, meeting his own guide for the first time, events at the Children's home, and his own ascension to a higher sphere.

It is curious therefor that they have slipped into relative obscurity even though they were widely accepted within the Church of England and beyond. This particular volume is dictated by Arnel, a spirit residing in what is termed the Tenth Sphere in this series, but which will be more familiar as the Fifth Sphere to readers of other similar publications. This book is more philosophical that the earlier volumes. However one major event is described that lasted many years. Apparently because of the very poor spiritual condition of mankind, the energy signature surrounding the earth had begun to negatively influence inhabited planets in our vicinity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soft Cover: Second Edition. This book was originally published in England in 1921, and is the fifth of a five volume set. The first half of the book covers how children learn and teach themselves. Then the second part of the book deals with the borderlands. These are the planes just outside the "real" hells. It would appear that the Law of Attraction is somewhat elastic, as there are many cases of spirits travelling further than their condition really would befit them. There are also some anecdotes of how they handle massacres, where not surprisingly the dead guys want to rush back and get their revenge. There is one story of how Wolfhere (a woman with several centuries of experience here) handles on her own 10,000 guys who don't want their "leader" to be a woman, and are about, so they think, to make some changes. The third part of this book comes from "Paul and Albert" previously published separately. It is their detailed first-hand account of the hells.

This particular volume is recited by Leader, a spirit residing in what we would call the Fifth Sphere, but which in this series is called the Tenth. Many topics are covered, and once again you get the feeling that you are a part of the action. The most amazing of these is a journey into the hells which eventually resulted in the release of 144,000 spirits from the clutches of a single dark spirit, and their resettlement in an area of marginally more light where they could set about rehabilitating themselves.
