Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its beginnings in the early 1960s the Charismatic Movement has been at its most visible and influential in the sphere of public worship. This book is the first major study of charismatic worship as it is encountered in Church of England parishes. Having traced the historical development of the Charismatic Movement in the Church of England, the book explores the public worship of six selected case study churches. By focusing on patterns of liturgical order, congregational singing, and Òprayer ministry, various aspects of worship are discussed. These include leadership, use of music and song, transformation of people and place, and the influence of cultural trends in notions of intimacy and characteristics of live performance (presence, spontaneity, and visibility). The concluding section offers a theological evaluation and investigates charismatic worship from a trinitarian perspective.

Book Synopsis Ethnic Church Meets Megachurch by : Prema A. Kurien
Download or read book Ethnic Church Meets Megachurch written by Prema A. Kurien and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2017-06-20 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book exposes the profound impact American evangelicalism is having on the religious lives of contemporary Christian immigrants, and the pressures immigrant churches face to incorporate evangelical worship styles, often at the expense of maintaining their ethnic character and support systems. Most interestingly, it shows that the integration patterns of post-1965 Christian immigrants and their descendants have essentially reversed earlier models. While immigrants from Europe and their children were expected to shed their ethnic identities to become Americans, in the sphere of religion, they could maintain their ethnic traditions within American denominations. This book shows that members of the contemporary second generation are incorporating into U.S. society by maintaining their ethnic identities in secular contexts but are adopting a de-ethnicized religious identity and practice. In particular, many are gravitating toward evangelical megachurches. Drawing on multi-site research in the U.S. and India, this book also provides a global perspective on religion, demonstrating the variety of ways in which transnational processes affect religious organizations and their members, and how forces of globalization, from the period of colonialism to contemporary out-migration, have brought tremendous changes among Christian communities in the Global South. Download or read book Bread of Life and Cup of Joy written by Horton Davies and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 1999-01-29 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book ventures a fresh look at the Eucharist in ways that draw Christians together rather than divide them. A respected scholar of liturgical history, Horton Davies here explores the Eucharist as memorial, as thanksgiving, as sacrifice, as eschatological banquet, as communion, as mystery, and as liberation and social justice. A separate chapter examines the unitive concept of transignification. Although the book as a whole presents ecumenical perspectives on the bread of life and cup of joy, Davies also looks at areas of disagreement among the partners in ecumenical discussion.
