Book Synopsis Physics of Geomagnetic Phenomena by : S. Matsushita
Download or read book Physics of Geomagnetic Phenomena written by S. Matsushita and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 795 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physics of Geomagnetic Phenomena, Volume II covers the advances in geomagnetism and the penetrations into the generation of geomagnetic field phenomena. This book is composed of three chapters and begins with a discussion on various types of phenomenal disturbances, such as ionospheric and geomagnetic disturbance, aurora, and storm. The next chapter describes certain aspects of space geomagnetism based on satellite and rocket observations. This chapter also examines the origins of geomagnetic disturbance phenomena. The last chapter surveys the problems connected with studies of geomagnetic storms and auroras, along with a hydromagnetic model of these phenomena. This book will be of value to physicists, theoreticians, and scientists in allied fields of geomagnetism.
Book Synopsis On the Stability of the Boundary of the Geomagnetic Field by : John R. Spreiter

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The response of the magnetosphere boundary in a steady solar wind to small initial departures from equilibrium is investigated in accordance with the classical model of Chapman and Ferraro. If the wavelength and amplitude are sufficiently small that curvature and second-order effects can be disregarded, all perturbations, except those having wave fronts aligned with the direction of the local magnetic field, are found to damp exponentially with time and to drift along the boundary with the tangential component of the solar wind. Aligned waves, which neither damp nor amplify in this approximation, are examined further by inclusion of curvature and higher order effects. A first-order analysis shows that curvature introduces a destabilizing effect in small regions in the vicinity of the neutral points and a stabilizing effect elsewhere. Possible geophysical consequences, such as the persistent magnetic agitation of the polar regions, are discussed. An exact solution for an aligned cylindrical solitary wave having an initial form of a circular arc is also presented to illustrate a mode of response that appears to permit injection of elongated and widely separated columns of solar wind plasma into the magnetosphere under certain conditions and to provide a mechanism for momentum transfer from the solar wind to the ambient magnetosphere plasma.

Book Synopsis The Geomagnetic Field by : David J. Knecht
Download or read book The Geomagnetic Field written by David J. Knecht and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This survey summarizes what is known about the magnetic field of the earth, based on information available through 1971. Observed phenomena are described and interpreted in terms of the most widely accepted physical explanations. An overview of the geomagnetic field and its dynamic relationship with its terrestrial and interplanetary environment is first presented as briefly as possible, followed by more detailed descriptions of geomagnetic measurements and experimental methods, precise current models and past behavior of the main field, regular variations in the field resulting from the motion of the earth, disturbance variations of the field produced by interplanetary environment, and dynamic processes occurring in the outer magnetosphere. Extensive references is a replacement for Chapter 11 of Handbook of Geophysics and Space Environment (Shea L. Valley, ed.), Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories and McGraw-Hill Book Co., New York, 1965.

Download or read book Magnetohydrodynamics with Hydrodynamics written by Peter C. Kendall and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Magnetohydrodynamics with Hydrodynamics, Volume 1 details various concepts in magnetohydrodynamics as it relates to hydrodynamics. The title first covers the methods and techniques appropriate to an elementary discussion of magnetohydrodynamics, and then proceeds to tackling the fundamental results of fluid dynamics. Next, the selection discusses the electromagnetic effects, along with the motion of a fluid in a uniform magnetic field. In the last chapter, the text talks about steady states and equilibrium configuration. The book will be of great interest to students, researchers, and practitioners of physics and engineering.
