This book was released on 2017-12-28 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Information Economy Report 2017 analyzes the evolving digital economy and its implications for trade and development. While these are still early days of the digital economy, it is already clear that it will have globally transformative impacts on the way we live, work and develop our economies. As the world strives to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, harnessing the power of information and communications technologies (ICTs) is essential. Large parts of the developing world remain disconnected from the Internet, and many people lack access to high-speed broadband connectivity. Policymaking at the national and international levels needs to mitigate the risk that digitalization could widen existing divides and create new gaps. Since increased reliance on digital technologies, such as cloud computing, three-dimensional printing, big data and “the Internet of things”, it is essential to start assessing opportunities and pitfalls alike, and to prepare for what is coming. The analysis contained in the report contributes to this process and proposes ways in which the international community can reduce inequality, enable the benefits of digitalization to reach all people and ensure that no one is left behind by the evolving digital economy.

Book Synopsis The Knowledge Based Information Economy by : Gunnar Eliasson
Download or read book The Knowledge Based Information Economy written by Gunnar Eliasson and published by Coronet Books. This book was released on 1990 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The implications of the knowledge-based information economy are studied conceptually and statistically. Innovation, economic coordination, and diffusion of knowledge are found to be dominant resource-using activities which are reflected in the extent of service production in the economy. Substitution occurs between internal production and external acquisition of services related to manufacturing activities. This and the organization of industry may explain observed differences among countries in international trade in services. If properly measured, manufactured goods and related services are found to account for almost half of GNP. Analogously, the definition of capital should be expanded to include intangibles having at least the same order of magnitude as conventionally measured (hardware) capital. The study also includes an attempt to quantify the actual and the potential sizes of the telecommunications market for knowledge communication through electronic methods.

Download or read book The Information Economy and American Cities written by Matthew P. Drennan and published by Johns Hopkins University Press+ORM. This book was released on 2003-05-01 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data on how cities have adapted to changing times: “An excellent analysis of the rise and role of the information sector . . . in regional economic development.” — Regional Science and Urban Economics How do metropolitan regions remain prosperous and competitive in a rapidly changing economy? Using hard data, Matthew Drennan shows that those regions that have invested heavily in the information economy have done much better than those that continue to rely on manufacturing and industry as their base. Moreover, he contends, the benefits of that growth reach the urban working poor, earlier reports to the contrary notwithstanding. The Information Economy and American Cities provides a wealth of rigorously analyzed econometric data of great value to economists, planners, and policymakers concerned with the future of America’s metropolitan areas, and provides the kind of hard evidence needed to advocate effectively for change.

Book Synopsis The Information Economy by : Lars Osberg
Download or read book The Information Economy written by Lars Osberg and published by IRPP. This book was released on 1989 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper argues that growth in modern economies is inherently unbalanced because labour productivity grows at different rates in the different occupation sectors. It examines the relative shift within industries towards knowledge-based occupations. It also demonstrates that higher education does not imply higher individual earnings for those employed in the goods and personal services sector, but post-secondary education is strongly rewarded within the information economy. Finally, it discusses the educational policy, research and development and international trade issues raised by the pattern of unbalanced growth characteristic of the information economy.
