Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the fifth to the nineteenth centuries, the people of western India built stone cisterns to collect the water of the monsoon rains and keep it accessible for the remaining dry months of the year. These magnificent structures-known as stepwells or stepped ponds-are much more than utilitarian reservoirs. Their lattice-like walls, carved columns, decorated towers, and intricate sculpture make them exceptional architecture., while their very presence tells much about the region's ecology and history. For these past 500 years, stepwells have been an integral part of western Indian communities as sites for drinking, washing, and bathing, as well as for colorful festivals and sacred rituals. Steps to Water traces the fascinating history of stepwells, from their Hindu origins, to their zenith during Muslim rule, and eventual decline under British occupation. It also reflects on their current use, preservation, and place in Indian communities. In stunning color and quadtone photographs and drawings, Steps to Water reveals the depth of the stepwells' beauty and their intricate details, and serves as a lens on these fascinating cultural and architectural monuments.

This book was released on 1999 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What is "Indian education" today? What will it look like in the future? These were the questions Karen Gayton Swisher and John W. Tippeconnic III posed to a dozen leading American Indian scholars and practitioners. They responded with the essays in Next Steps: Research and Practice to Advance Indian Education, which explore two important themes. The first is education for tribal self-determination. Tribes are now in a position to exercise full control of education on their lands. They have the authority to establish and enforce policies that define the nature of education for their constituents, just as states do for their school districts. The second theme is the need to turn away from discredited deficit theories of education, and turn instead to an approach that builds on the strengths of Native languages and culture and the basic resilience of Indigenous peoples. This second theme could be especially important for the 90 percent of Indian students who attend public schools. Next Steps is appropriate for multicultural and teacher education programs. It addresses facets of K-12 and post-secondary Native American education programs, including their history, legal aspects, curriculum, access, and achievement"--Back cover.

This book was released on 2019-07-08 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To study the role of business incubators in the economic growth of India, it is imperative to understand whether or not incubators reduce the mortality of start-ups. Are incubators instrumental in providing an effective platform for accelerating the growth of start-ups? Do the existing incubators meet the expectations of start-ups? Are incubated start-ups able to attract funding from venture capitalists? These are only some of the questions that fall within the scope of this research. In this book, the authors explore the subject in-depth in an attempt to respond to them. For the purpose of this study, primary and secondary research data were used. In the context of American, European and Chinese incubator industries, this data was readily available. However, due to its nascent stage, there was not enough secondary data available in the context of the Indian incubation industry. Therefore, primary research was carried out. Thus, in order to design the research, structured interviews with the founders of start-ups and incubator managers were conducted. The findings of the study reveal that, despite the gaps between the offering of incubators and the expectations of start-ups, there is a positive impact of business incubators on job creation, wealth generation and the creation of intellectual property.
