Book excerpt: I never set out to be famous. It sort of fell into my lap. Just like Finn.He was exactly what I needed in an assistant, and the exact opposite of everything I looked for in a guy, which made hiring him an easy decision. It was perfect. Then it wasn't. One by one, I started to fall for all of Finn's imperfections, leaving me to question...Was I simply looking for all the wrong things in a man? Or was Finn perfect because he was imperfect?

Dr. Robert Glover has dubbed the "Nice Guy Syndrome" trying too hard to please others while neglecting one's own needs, thus causing unhappiness and resentfulness. It's no wonder that unfulfilled Nice Guys lash out in frustration at their loved ones, claims Dr. Glover. He explains how they can stop seeking approval and start getting what they want in life, by presenting the information and tools to help them ensure their needs are met, to express their emotions, to have a satisfying sex life, to embrace their masculinity and form meaningful relationships with other men, and to live up to their creative potential.
Book Synopsis Mistake It Like a Man by : Dave Meurer
Download or read book Mistake It Like a Man written by Dave Meurer and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2010-06-16 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Real Men Don’t Get Embarrassed…We Merely Appear Sunburned Ever had your doctor give you valuable diet and exercise advice, then gone out for a cheeseburger and fries to celebrate the fact that you’re not dead yet? Do your teens flee the room in dismay when you try to use their jargon to prove that you’re still “groovy”? Have you ever been smitten by romance, pulled your wife close to you, and asked her to give you one good reason you should not make passionate love to her at that very moment, only to have her remind you that you are standing in the grocery aisle? Dave Meurer has been through it all. And he’s got a tale or two (fifty, actually, in Mistake It Like a Man ) that will shed some light, albeit fluorescent, on all kinds of common manly experiences. “Dave Meurer vividly illustrates the humor that is American family life. But be warned: Amid the chuckles, he masterfully weaves some serious food for thought.” -Bill Shepson, Editorial Director, Advance magazine “Dave Meurer has done it again. He’s taken the commonplace and turned it into high comedy. He has the ability to make you giggle gleefully while meditating meaningfully on the spiritual issues that matter most.” -Ellie Kay, Author, speaker, and “ America’s Family Financial Expert” Story Behind the Book “Humor is the secret weapon of the nonfiction writer. It is an attempt to say important things in a special way that regular writers aren’t getting said in a regular way—or if they are, it’s so regular that no one is reading it.” —William Zinsser “I see my humor writing as guerrilla warfare for the kingdom of God . People let their defenses down when they’re laughing, and that’s when I can make some serious points about love, grace, conflict resolution, male/female differences, raising kids, and work—all in a nonthreatening way. Even ‘nonreading’ guys read my books, because everyone wants and needs to laugh.” — Dave Meurer

Book Synopsis How to Be an Imperfectionist by : Stephen Guise
Download or read book How to Be an Imperfectionist written by Stephen Guise and published by Selective Entertainment LLC. This book was released on 2015-06-04 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From an early age, kids are taught to color inside the lines, and any color that strays outside the lines is considered to be a mistake that must be avoided. Perfectionism is a naturally limiting mindset. Imperfectionism, however, frees us to live outside the lines, where possibilities are infinite, mistakes are allowed, and self-judgment is minimal. The old way to approach perfectionism was to inspire people to "let go" of their need for perfection and hope they could do it. The new way is to show people how simple but highly strategic "mini actions" can empower them to gradually and effortlessly "let go" of perfectionism. This book applies the science of behavior modification directly to the roots of perfectionism, resulting in a new and superior method for change. Imperfectionists aren't so ironic as to have perfect lives: they're just happier, healthier, and more productive at doing what matters.
Download or read book Black Girl Baking written by Jerrelle Guy and published by Page Street Publishing. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: **2019 James Beard Foundation Book Award Nominee** "Black Girl Baking has a rhythm and a realness to it." - Carla Hall, Chef and television personality Invigorating and Creative Recipes to Ignite Your Senses For Jerrelle Guy, food has always been what has shaped her—her body, her character, her experiences and her palate. Growing up as the sensitive, slightly awkward child of three in a race-conscious space, she decided early on that she’d rather spend her time eating cookies and honey buns than taking on the weight of worldly issues. It helped her see that good food is the most powerful way to connect, understand and heal. Inspired by this realization, each one of her recipes tells a story. Orange Peel Pound Cake brings back memories of summer days eating Florida oranges at Big Ma’s house, Rosketti cookies reimagine the treats her mother ate growing up in Guam, and Plaited Dukkah Bread parallels the braids worked into her hair as a child. Jerrelle leads you on a sensual baking journey using the five senses, retelling and reinventing food memories while using ingredients that make her feel more in control and more connected to the world and the person she has become. Whole flours, less refined sugar and vegan alternatives make it easier to celebrate those sweet moments that made her who she is today. Escape everyday life and get lost in the aromas, sounds, sights, textures and tastes of Black Girl Baking.

Book Synopsis Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person by : The School of Life
Download or read book Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person written by The School of Life and published by School of Life Press. This book was released on 2017-04-27 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of essays extended from The New York Times' most-read article of 2016. Anyone we might marry could, of course, be a little bit wrong for us. We don’t expect bliss every day. The fault isn’t entirely our own; it has to do with the devilish truth that anyone we’re liable to meet is going to be rather wrong, in some fascinating way or another, because this is simply what all humans happen to be – including, sadly, ourselves. This collection of essays proposes that we don’t need perfection to be happy. So long as we enter our relationships in the right spirit, we have every chance of coping well enough with, and even delighting in, the inevitable and distinctive wrongness that lies in ourselves and our beloveds.

Book Synopsis Guy Fawkes (Serapis Classics) by : William Ainsworth
Download or read book Guy Fawkes (Serapis Classics) written by William Ainsworth and published by Serapis Classics. This book was released on 2017-10-16 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guy Fawkes first appeared as a serial in Bentley's Miscellany, between January and November 1840. The first of William Harrison Ainsworth's seven "Lancashire novels", the story is based on the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, an unsuccessful attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Ainsworth relied heavily on historical documents describing the trial and execution of the conspirators, of whom Fawkes was one, but he also embellished the known facts. He invented the character of Viviana Radcliffe, daughter of the prominent Radcliffe family of Ordsall Hall – who becomes Fawkes's wife – and introduced supernatural elements into the story, such as the ability of the alchemist, John Dee, to raise the spirits of the dead. The novel's themes deal with British politics and history, focusing on the events surrounding the 1605 plot to destroy Parliament. Ainsworth also introduced gothic elements, to add a terrifying component to the work. The novel was very popular, and marked the beginning of Ainsworth's 40-year career in historical romances, but it was not universally admired. Edgar Allan Poe described the style of writing as "turgid pretension".
