Translating from the original languages of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek is a task unlike any other and should never be taken lightly. It carries with it the heaviest responsibility: the translator renders God’s thoughts into a modern language. What does that mean? It means that our primary purpose is to give the Bible readers what God said by way of his human authors, not what a translator thinks God meant in its place. In other words, our primary goal is to be accurate and faithful to the original text. The meaning of a word is the responsibility of the interpreter (i.e., reader), not the translator. The translator remains faithful to this literal translation philosophy unless it has been determined that the rendering will be misunderstood or misinterpreted. The translator is not tasked with making the text easy to read, but rather to make it as accurately faithful to the original as possible. UASV PURPOSE Our primary purpose is to give the Bible readers what God said by way of his human authors, not what a translator thinks God meant in its place.—Truth Matters! UASV GOAL Our primary goal is to be accurate and faithful to the original text. The meaning of a word is the responsibility of the interpreter (i.e., reader), not the translator.—Translating Truth! OUR RESOURCES The Updated American Standard Version will be one of the most faithful and accurate translations to date by Christian Publishing House. It will remain faithful to the original and what the authors penned. We will not go beyond the translator’s responsibility into the field of the interpreter. Removing the Outdated Passages with the Old English “thee’s” and “thou’s” etc. have been replaced with modern English. Many words and phrases that were extremely ambiguous or easily misunderstood since the 1901 ASV have been updated according to the best lexicons. Verses with difficult word order or vocabulary have been translated into correct English grammar and syntax, for easier reading. However, if the word order of the original conveyed meaning, it was kept. More Accurate The last 110+ years have seen the discovering of far more manuscripts, especially the papyri, with many manuscripts dating within 100 years of the originals. While making more accurate translation choices, we have stayed true to the literal translation philosophy of the ASV, while other literal translations abandon the philosophy far too often. The translator seeks to render the Scriptures accurately, without losing what the Bible author penned by changing what the author wrote, by distorting or embellishing through imposing what the translator believes the author meant into the original text. Accuracy in Bible translation is being faithful to what the original author wrote (the words that he used), as opposed to going beyond into the meaning, trying to determine what the author meant by his words. The latter is the reader’s job. The translator uses the most reliable, accurate critical texts (e.g., WH, NA, UBS, BHS, as well as the original language texts, versions, and other sources that will help him to determine the original reading. Why the Need for Updated Translations? New manuscript discoveries Changes in the language A better understanding of the original languages Improved insight into Bible translation

Book excerpt: American Standard Version (ASV). Old and New Testament. In this edition, "Jehovah" has been updated to "the Lord." Based on the 1901 edition by the American Revision Team, which is now in the public domain. For easy navigation, the table of contents links to books and chapters, and back again. Sample Scripture John 15 1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he cleanseth it, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already ye are clean because of the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for apart from me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; and so shall ye be my disciples. 9 Even as the Father hath loved me, I also have loved you: abide ye in my love. 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. 11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. Published by Zeiset. Our mission is basic but fundamental - that people read the Holy Bible for what it is and for what it says.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1611 King James Version was a revision of multiple English Bibles from the 1500s: Tyndale’s Bible, Coverdale’s Bible, Matthew’s Bible, Taverner’s Bible, the Great Bible, the Geneva Bible, and the Bishops’ Bible. The 1611 King James Bible translators stated in the Preface that they knew others would revise their work too (1) as more manuscripts came to light and (2) translators had a better understanding of biblical Hebrew and Greek. How many versions of the King James are there? Eventually, five different editions of the King James Version were produced in 1611, 1629, 1638, 1762, and 1769. It is the 1769 edition which is most commonly cited as the King James Version (KJV). The next major revision of the English Bible came in 1881, 1885 Revised Version) and 1901 American Standard Version. Over 30,000 changes were made, of which more than 5,000 represent differences between the Greek text used for the Revised Version and that used as the basis of the King James Version. Most of the other changes were made in the interest of consistency or modernization. Further significant revisions only considering literal translations have been the 1952 Revised Standard Version, the 1960-2020 New American Standard Bible, the 2001 English Standard Version, and the 2022 Updated American Standard Version. We do not need the originals. We do not need those original documents. The Bible was miraculously restored, not miraculously preserved as some would like us to believe. Herein, we will clear up many misunderstandings and misconceptions about the English Bible translations.

Book excerpt: For decades, scholars have referred to the American Standard Version as the "rock of Biblical honesty," and have held convictions that "interest in it should be renewed and increased, with the chief inducement being its recognized value which deserves and demands perpetuation." Like our ASV predecessors, the Refreshed ASV is resolutely committed to the Formal Equivalence translation philosophy, and has endeavored to handle the English text with both deference and reserve, intending this standard ought merely to be refreshed, rather than revised, or replaced. Changes made to the ASV within the limited scope of the refreshing of the English text include archaic personal pronouns (i.e. thee, thou, thine, thy, thyself, ye), archaic verb terminations (i.e. -est, -st, -th), and antiquated vocabulary, spelling, and grammar resulting from semantic shift. Book excerpt: OLD & NEW TESTAMENT The American Standard Version (ASV) came into being due to the leadership of Phillip Schaff, who assembled a team comprised of 30 American and British scholars. Work on the ASV was completed in 1901. The translation was tasked with the goal of an accurate, literal, word-for-word translation of the Holy Scriptures. The ASV took advantage of two 19th century developments to achieve their goal: improvements in understanding the grammar and syntax of koine Greek (the language of the New Testament), and a more complete library of manuscripts than previous Bible translators had access. As a result of this work the ASV translation was developed that retained distinctions made in Greek that are not normally expressed in modern English. For example, second person personal pronouns in modern English usage are normally "you" which gives no distinction between the singular and plural. Koine Greek unambiguously makes the distinction between a second person personal singular pronoun and the second person personal plural pronoun. In this case the ASV retained these distinctions by using archaic English ("you" for the singular and "ye" for the plural). The word-for-word translation of the ASV was attractive in the scholarly environment, and the ASV was adopted as the standard version used by many American seminaries. The ASV is the foundation and starting point for several modern translations. Hence it is a very good reference and even primary translation to use. Note: Paperback is 8.5x11 with regular thickness pages for durability. Also only 476 pages for portability. Note2: Tiny Font (Font=6) has been replaced with a Moderate Font (Font=8). Area needed is twice but it IS a great deal more READABLE. Your complaints have been heard!

Andrews as a Chief Translator, “In studying the modern Bible translations, I have come across some verses that are left out but that are in my King James Version or even my New King James Version, such as Matthew 18:11; 23:14; Luke 17:36. I have gotten conflicting opinions on social media. Can you please clear this up for me?” Have you experienced this? The book of Revelation warns: “if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.” Yes, removing a true part of the Bible would be a serious matter. (Rev. 22:19) But had this happened? Do you know why these verses are omitted from modern translations? You might wonder, ‘Is my modern Bible translation lacking something that the King James Version has?’ The reader of the King James Version may feel that they have something that the modern Bibles do not. Andrews will help the reader find the answers to whether verses are being omitted and far more when it comes to the differences between the King James Bible and the Modern Bible translations.

Imagine living where all these things existed, but you could go about your daily life untouched by fear and anxiety. What if you could be courageous and strong through your faith in these last days? What if you could live by faith not fear? What if insight into God's Word could remove your fear, anxiety, and dread? Imagine a life of calmness, peace, unconcern, confidence, comfort, hope, and faith. Are you able to picture a life without fear? It is possible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible has faced opposition from Satan’s world since the beginning, from supposed “friend” and foe alike. An innumerable number of faithful followers of God have paid with their lives to bring us the Bible in our language today. Even today, there is much pressure from the so-called Christian community and the scholarly world to be faithful to man as opposed to being faithful to God and the original language text when translating the Bible. The closing chapters will deal with that, for now, let’s look at the hazardous duty of Bible translation and the lives of three great men. TRANSLATING TRUTH will deal with the process of going from the original language critical text to the Bible translation in English. Also, it will address the differences as well, so the reader can know which translations are to be most trusted. There are rules and principles to Bible translation that will give the reader the closest English equivalent of what God’s Word had said in the original language of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. It is art to be balanced in the application of these rules and principles. While Bible translators are no longer hung or burned at the stake, there is still enormous pressure on their lives. If a translator does not color within the lines of certain groups, they can be ostracized to the point of being unable to work. They are privately and publicly mocked. For example, the literal translators are wrongly viewed as knuckle-dragging Neanderthals who cannot give up the dated way of translating the Word of God by the modern idealist way of carrying out the work of Bible translation by the dynamic equivalent, interpretive translators. Modern-day scholars and many within the so-called Christian community will treat the translator who is faithful to God and the original text with contempt, scorn, mockery, and derision, even outright hostility. The final section of chapters could never be exhaustive as to what could be said about the trustworthiness of our Bible but it is more than enough to give you a sense that what we have today is the closest to what we have ever had when it comes to our literal translations being a mirrorlike reflection of the originals in English.
