This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The creatures of Great Meadow feel the same joys and suffer the same fears as human children. Nell Hedge is learning to manage her anxiety with the help of her friends and family. This is an engaging teaching and counseling tool as well as a charming bedtime story. It is the first in a series about the inhabitants of Great Meadow. Later stories will find our friends dealing with abandonment and mean girl issues, as well as singing in the school talent contest and raising money for refugees. Highly interesting to children - "Congratulations on your magnificent manuscript of Nervous Nellie. I especially love the depth of message addressing the emotional development of children. I was a Nervous Nellie student but was unable to curl up.Character development (both moral and temperament) portrayed through animals is clever, respectful and highly interesting to children. And so many positive life lessons! I also deeply appreciate the exposure to the liberal arts education within the story line; music, history, geography and more. As an educator, I would be able to expand upon the text with many valuable extension lessons."-Shirley Francis, School Administrator and Educator Validating and empowering- "As a parent of children with anxiety (and an anxiety sufferer myself) it is heartwarming to see them discover a storybook character that validates their day to day reality: from nervous stomach aches and crippling fear of the new, to the support both at home and at school that highlights accomplishments and leads to empowerment. That this is done through a charming story and with delightful animal characters makes it even more meaningful to all of us. Thank you for making their invisible disability, visible and for showing them that taking chances is often worth the risk."-Karina Coombs, Writer Exploring and Learning- "The Story of Nellie Hedge exploring her feelings and learning to manage her anxiety is an engaging way to to support young children who also experience anxiety. The beautiful illustrations and interesting character profiles invite readers into Nellie's world, and provide a comfortable platform with which to draw parallels to a reader's experience. This story is a great tool for use in a counseling session or for a bedtime story. Well done!" Katie Rupprecht, CAGS, NCSP School Psychologist
Book Synopsis The Great Meadow by : Elizabeth Madox Roberts
Download or read book The Great Meadow written by Elizabeth Madox Roberts and published by Hesperus Press. This book was released on 2012-10-26 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1930 and shortlisted for the Pulitzer, the winner of Hesperus' "Uncover a Classic" competition is a long-neglected American classic, a romantic saga of young love on the Kentucky trail in colonial America Diony Hall has waited for many years for her betrothed to return to marry her. Trying to fathom the nature of identity and her place in the vast newly created America, Diony spends her time at the family hearthside, combining her love of reading with her roles within the family circle and the daily tasks on the homestead. When Berk Jarvis returns and they are married, they both bid farewell to Virginia, family, community, and security to head out to found a new family and a new life together in the wilderness of Kentucky. What follows is a breathtaking story of love and death, as the settlers cross the Appalachian mountains and struggle to carve a new life on the unforgiving frontier at the mercy of shortages, harsh winters, and the perpetual danger of Indian attack. This astonishing novel, with its rhythmic prose, has too long been forgotten.
Book Synopsis Adventures in the High Meadow by : Allan Turner
Download or read book Adventures in the High Meadow written by Allan Turner and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2020-01-24 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Adventures in the High Meadow” tells stories of three friends (a girl, a horse, and a wooly mammoth) as they meet animals and situations present 10,000 years ago. The traits of the animals they meet are demonstrated. In many cases, the three help the animals they meet. There are scary situations, which always turn out OK. There are many tricks played. Throughout, the three have a lot of fun and no one gets hurt. There are surprises in every story and each story ends with a laugh. In the final story, each animal tells what they think the future of their kind will be. The idea for this book first started many years ago as a “Story-go-Round”. That is my grandkids description of the times we would sit around and create a story. One person starts the story and stops in mid-sentence. The next person finishes that sentence and takes it to where they stop in min-sentence. The fun part is you never know where the other people will take the story. When it gets back around to you, you have to both continue the story as it is, and tell it until stopping in mid-sentence. The results can be really funny, or exciting, or scary. You never know how the story is going to end until it is ended. There is a lot of laughter along the way. Many, really creative stories result. And, along the way, quick thinking and verbal expression are enhanced. The author hopes that you have as much fun reading this book as he had writing it.

Download or read book The Meadow written by James Galvin and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2014-02-04 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An American Library Association Notable Book In discrete disclosures joined with the intricacy of a spider's web, James Galvin depicts the hundred-year history of a meadow in the arid mountains of the Colorado/Wyoming border. Galvin describes the seasons, the weather, the wildlife, and the few people who do not possess but are themselves possessed by this terrain. In so doing he reveals an experience that is part of our heritage and mythology. For Lyle, Ray, Clara, and App, the struggle to survive on an independent family ranch is a series of blameless failures and unacclaimed successes that illuminate the Western character. The Meadow evokes a sense of place that can be achieved only by someone who knows it intimately.
