Book excerpt: The Govie-ee: My Hell of a Life by Jeff M. Maritz Mike-ee is not your typical child. When he was five, he saw things he shouldn't see. His mother unwittingly planted the seeds of carnal knowledge in his pure mind. At age nine, he committed incest without knowing it was wrong. In 1967, at age eleven, he and his sister found their father beaten black and blue in their room in a run-down boarding house. All of a sudden, he was taken by authorities to Louis Trichardt Reformatory-the so-called Govie-ee-with his elder brother and sister. He had no idea why they end up there, and nobody would offer any reason. The Govie-ee was a hellhole. It brought out the worst in him...it tormented him...it took any innocence left in him. This is a true story. About the Author Jeffrey Michael Maritz was born and raised in Africa. At present time he is living in Asia for more than twenty years. He has traveled the world due to his profession as a mechanical engineer. Inspired by the love for his father, he writes this book about the struggles he had to deal with as a child growing up in a dysfunctional family in Africa.

This book was released on with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In July 2012, the Green Infrastructure Finance Framework Report was published to address the constraints in financing green infrastructure and to develop a new PPP-based approach to accelerate investments in low emission technologies. The approach calls for assessing the “Green Investment Climate” of a given country in order to develop country-specific recommendations for policy and incentive programs as well as other measures which can be introduced in order to further promote green growth in an economy. This report includes one of the first Green Investment Country Profiles completed for the East Asia and Pacific Region as part of bringing the approach closer to operational status. The initial countries include China, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and South Korea. The assessment involves not only the green policy and incentives environment, but also the country’s overall natural resource endowment of fossil and renewable energy, its industrial development strategy in addition to general business indicators and other considerations, such as electricity prices, the capacity of the financial sector to mobilize long-term domestic financing, as well as their overall regulatory and legal capacity to implement PPPs. The country profiles provide a general understanding of the attractiveness, prevailing trends, strengths, and other aspects affecting the ability of the country to leverage its green growth potential. Book Synopsis Canadian Immigration and South Asian Immigrants by : Abdur Rahim
Download or read book Canadian Immigration and South Asian Immigrants written by Abdur Rahim and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: South Asian immigrants have made a significant contribution to the Canadian mosaic. However, their trials and tribulations and their successes and failures constitute a story that remains untold. To know of their arrivals, their struggles to beat the odds, as well as their successes, is to read a story of hard work, of tireless effort to 'make it' of the commitment to belong, and of ultimate success. This process not only re-shaped them from 'who they were' to 'who they are now', but also re-shaped Canada that we know today. Their influence can be felt in the arts and sciences, the humanities and in politics, community works and in social services. This book is an attempt to understand the 'what' and 'how' of that unfolding process, and also to know the real concerns about the conditions of Canada's ethnic minority population, South Asian Canadians and their children in particular.

Book Synopsis Climate Change by : Great Britain: Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
Download or read book Climate Change written by Great Britain: Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2006-03-28 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This programme sets out the Government's policies and priorities for action on climate change in the UK and internationally. The first section examines the nature and scale of the challenge posed by climate change. It describes the existing international framework for action, including the G8 and EU meetings and resulting plans of action. The Government intends to build on these developments, and also try to influence the rapidly growing economies of India, China, Brazil and others so that they evolve as low-carbon economies. The major part of the report is concerned with the UK's attempt to deliver the Kyoto Protocol target of reducing emissions of six greenhouse gases by 12.5 per cent below base year levels over the 2008-2012 period, and also the domestic goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 20 per cent below 1990 levels by 2010. Projections indicate that CO2 reduction by 2010 will only be some 10.6 per cent below the 1990 level. Sections on the UK emission inventory and projections, the strategy to reduce emissions, and the energy supply sector, are followed by chapters covering particular economic sectors: business; transport, domestic; agriculture and forestry; the public sector. Among policies outlined here are: encouragement of microgeneration and renewable sources of energy; investigation of carbon capture and storage; support for energy efficiency in business, local and central government; increase uptake of biofuels; include aviation in the emissions trading scheme for the EU from 2008; raise energy standards of new and refurbished buildings; introduce the Code for Sustainable Homes; strengthen consumer demand for energy efficiency. The Government also sets out its approach to encourage personal action, as citizens, consumers, motorists and business people. Provision of better information to the public, including an online service on the environmental impact of everyday products and services, will be supplemented by a plan for action on sustainable consumption by the end of 2006.

Book Synopsis The Inclusion of Environmental Education in Science Teacher Education by : Alec Bodzin
Download or read book The Inclusion of Environmental Education in Science Teacher Education written by Alec Bodzin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-13 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the coming decades, the general public will be required ever more often to understand complex environmental issues, evaluate proposed environmental plans, and understand how individual decisions affect the environment at local to global scales. Thus it is of fundamental importance to ensure that higher quality education about these ecological issues raises the environmental literacy of the general public. In order to achieve this, teachers need to be trained as well as classroom practice enhanced. This volume focuses on the integration of environmental education into science teacher education. The book begins by providing readers with foundational knowledge of environmental education as it applies to the discipline of science education. It relates the historical and philosophical underpinnings of EE, as well as current trends in the subject that relate to science teacher education. Later chapters examine the pedagogical practices of environmental education in the context of science teacher education. Case studies of environmental education teaching and learning strategies in science teacher education, and instructional practices in K-12 science classrooms, are included. This book shares knowledge and ideas about environmental education pedagogy and serves as a reliable guide for both science teacher educators and K-12 science educators who wish to insert environmental education into science teacher education. Coverage includes everything from the methods employed in summer camps to the use of podcasting as a pedagogical aid. Studies have shown that schools that do manage to incorporate EE into their teaching programs demonstrate significant growth in student achievement as well as improved student behavior. This text argues that the multidisciplinary nature of environmental education itself requires problem-solving, critical thinking and literacy skills that benefit students’ work right across the curriculum.
