Book excerpt: Has the House of Windsor finally come to an end? Neil Phillips' novel creates a web of uncertainty over the continued existence of the Royal household. The Queen suddenly abdicates in favour of her grandson, but the government of the day believes the time has come to end a thousand years of monarchist rule. The Prime Minister, a staunch Republican, is summoned to Buckingham Palace, but just as he is delivering a short press conference outside No. 10 Downing Street he is assassinated. The single shot that ends his life begins a struggle between the Royalists and the Republicans. Alan Chandler, an MI5 officer, is tasked with discovering who has killed who, why, and with whose authority. Was it the Royalists within the Government or the House of Windsor trying to maintain its iron grip on the wealth of the nation?

Book excerpt: This riveting story of a top-earning NFL center and his family who walked away from it all to follow God's call to alleviate hunger as farmers—a life they knew absolutely nothing about—illustrates the sacrifice and ultimate reward of obedience to our heavenly Father even when it doesn't make earthly sense. “A remarkable story where family, deep self-reflection, and an unshakable belief in a path predestined by God triumph over fortune and comfort.”—John Harbaugh, head coach of the Baltimore Ravens NFL lineman Jason Brown had everything in the world. He was the highest-paid center in the game. He lived in luxury. Millions of people saw and admired him every week. Then in 2012, Jason heard a call from God that changed everything. Leaving behind an incredibly successful football career that paid millions, Jason turned toward a life he knew nothing about: farming. It was only the beginning of his journey. Through third-party mismanagement and a run of bad luck, Jason lost most of the money he’d saved from his NFL days—the same money he’d planned to use to start his new career and donate fresh produce to hungry kids. Only a miracle could save Jason’s new dream. And that’s exactly what happened. Centered is an inspiring riches-to-rags-to-true-riches story of one man willing to risk it all for the sake of his family. For the sake of loving others. For the sake of seeking God’s dreams first—and reminding each of us to do the same.

Book excerpt: The beautiful and fey--as they say in the Old Country--Nuala Anne McGrail uses her psychic abilities to help solve mysteries. But even she will admit with a smile that she couldn't do it without Dermot Michael Coyne, her devoted admirer and self-proclaimed "spear carrier." Now both living in Chicago, their unique courtship is once again interrupted by one of Nuala's "spells." On a quiet street on the South Shore, she is overwhelmed by the screaming of thousands of dying men--Confederate soldiers held as prisoners of war. Soon the pair are caught up in a Civil War controversy, and an all-too-present-day mystery involving a sophisticated gang of art thieves, corrupt politicians, and international terrorists. But Dermot is cheerfully resigned, for as he well knows, life with Nuala will never be simple. After all, she's like Irish lace--"thin and delicate and pretty, and just a little bit complicated." Book excerpt: Now with new Preface. Dragged Up Proppa is the story of growing up working class in a forgotten England. 'Very compelling, beautifully written memoir of a time and England that no longer exists but remains just as important today as ever' – Sebastian Payne, author of Broken Heartlands Pip Fallow was born in the coal-miner’s cottage where his family of eight lived, in a village near Durham. Pip was destined to join his father down the pit, but the closure of his village’s mine in the 1980s saw him at the back of the dole queue like the rest. This is Pip’s story of being ‘dragged up proppa’, living by his wits, working and travelling the world before finally settling a few miles from where he grew up. A lot has been written about the red wall in recent years, but Pip Fallow has lived it. This is his account of some of the most important issues affecting Britain today – from levelling-up and the north-south divide, to social mobility and class, and the devastating social upheaval caused by decades of deindustrialization and government neglect – to show how broken promises of the past impact his village and the politics of today. This is the memoir of a man who left school illiterate, but has now written a book. The story of a lost generation who were prepared for a life that had disappeared by the time they were ready for it, of communities with once strong social ties that have now disintegrated, and a way of living that simply no longer exists in Britain today. 'Fallow's memoir is not just a classic piece of working-class writing, but a truly gripping narrative' – Brian Groom, author of Northerners: A History

His best friend, Jack Foster, has invited Megan Dills, a relatively new student at Franklin High, to the birthday party and surprises Ben by telling him just before the party begins. Little does Ben know that the adventure of a lifetime is about to begin. After the party ends, Ben and Megan are thrown into a dilemma together through no fault of their own. The party is a success, but Megan receives a phone call afterward, and Ben notices that she is upset. When he asks her what's wrong, she tells him that her father, an investigative reporter, had an accident and needs her help right away. After Ben drives Megan to FRU's lab, they are stopped by armed guards and taken inside as prisoners. There, they discover that Megan's father is dead and that they will be sent to Gildor, a secret underground facility to keep them silent. Once they are in Gildor, the two teens find that every day brings a new fight for survival. Gildor is a dangerous primitive world full of strange humanoid and beastly genetic inhabitants, outcasts never before known to man.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boy meets girl. Steven is from the country club brought up with understanding reasoning, believing in facts, having a consciousness, and carrying a moral compass. Octapella lives in a trailer park and under her mother’s standards, disbelieves, suffocating control tactics. Zoo controls all of Octapella’s decision-makings. Zoo wants her children to be bad, thoughtless, and much as possible, uneducated with life, society, and not understand how the real world lives. Zoo’s network of people she titles as family are all corrupted in the way they think, act, and believe. The more Steven tries to listen to Octapella, the more he wants to give Octapella a better life. However, Zoo continues to interfere, so Octapella, like a mermaid, keeps going back to her mother for advice, instead of her fiancé. The book resembles a reflection of the Cinderella story. Questions seem to unveil. Do we live in a society where evil is prevailing and becoming the ruler, the norm, and way of life? Do we have immature people in higher-up places of authority making decisions to the people and for the people? This story unfolds. We can sweep off and brush away the dirt on society through detection by observation and then making awareness for other to adjust accordingly for the better. There is always room to make change for the better of the people. Steven and Octapella move in together. They practice together the steps and ceremony of marriage in church, however, never reach the point of marriage. As the same time, Steven practices for war and eventually goes off to war for five years in the deserts of Iraq. It is not Octapella who needs rescue from a knight in shining armor. It is their daughter, Santana Maria. Worse, the presidential judge happens to have the same character of Zoo and Octapella, a social behavioral disease that carries internal deception, an intergenerational violent behavior of selfishness, hate, control, shaming, jealousy, and unjust. Therefore, a tease of unfairness just for their personal satisfaction. People like Judge Sorrow, Zoo and Octapella love the center of attention and being in charge only to spread more corruption in decision-making. They must have the final word, right or wrong. They despise when others are smarter, keen, happy, organized, correct, and content without drama. Judge Sorrow’s technique in court is not to make a final decision. Even after fifteen years, Steven continues to ring more evidence, and the judge says she needs more evidence and in the meantime, gives Steven zero custody. Like an undertow, families get separated because of a misrepresentation, heartbroken allegation, false promised arbitration, all from a malpracticed broken lopsided, slippery slope inconsiderate judge’s sloppy, careless, and weak rulings.

Following fifteen Marines from Pearl Harbor, through their battles with the Japanese, to their return home after V-J Day, Adam Makos and Marcus Brotherton have compiled an oral history of the Pacific War in the words of the men who fought on the front lines. With vivid, unforgettable detail, these Marines reveal harrowing accounts of combat with an implacable enemy, the camaraderie they found, the friends they lost, and the aftermath of the war's impact on their lives. With unprecedented access to the veterans, rare photographs, and unpublished memoirs, Voices of the Pacific presents true stories of heroism as told by such World War II veterans as Sid Phillips, R.V. Burgin, and Chuck Tatum—whose exploits were featured in the classic HBO miniseries The Pacific—and their Marine buddies from the legendary 1st Marine Division.
