Book excerpt: "For thousands of years, Golem Mages ruled the volcanic mountain ranges of Ingleheim, but when Herrscher Heinrich declared himself Führer, he took measures to ensure he would be the last with the power to bend golems to his will. Twenty years later, his regime uncovers the resting place of an Alpha Golem with the power to burn the life force out of anyone caught in its destructive gaze. Katja, a passionate Golem Expert, is tasked to help bring the Alpha under the Führer's control. She is determined to keep it out of his murderous hands and has no choice but to team up with a nameless and faceless soldier, trained in the efficiently ruthless discipline of Steinkamp. A word synonymous with death. The pair challenge immense power, but their most trying task is learning how to trust in a world where everyone is afraid of you--or wants to kill you."--Dust jacket.

Book excerpt: 'Rhidauna', the first book of the great fantasy series 'The Shadow of the Revenaunt'. The night before his Coming-of-Age, Ghyll and his two friends escape their castle on a clandestine boar hunt that will forever change their lives. The hunt proves a disaster, and with one of them badly wounded, they return just in time to see their island castle destroyed by macabre warriors from a dragon boat, and by flocks of fire-breathing birds. Ghyll's eighteenth birthday turns into a nightmare as they flee into the night. Now begins an epic journey to find out who is trying to kill them – and most importantly, why? Fortunately, they can count on the help of new friends, including a sometimes overly enthusiastic fire mage, an inexperienced paladin and a young beastmistress who is also a ferocious mountain lioness. It soon becomes clear that not one but several sorcerers want to kill them. Are those blackrobes really followers of a terrible, long-forgotten organization? And whose cold hand reaches across the boundaries of space and time to crush weakened Rhidauna? Note from the Author: This version has been revised on some vital plot points. "Rhidauna by Paul E. Horsman is a compelling and fast paced fantasy story that takes you on a thrilling, action packed horseback adventure across a country filled with powerful magic, greed and treachery." (Readers' Favorite 5* Review)

Book excerpt: The dazzlingly imaginative, ferociously funny story of an art teacher, a bodega clerk, and a five-thousand-year-old clay crisis monster, from the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Go the F**k to Sleep. “A devastating romp through history, a bonkers road trip through America, this novel could not be any funnier—or any more important.”—W. Kamau Bell In Ashkenazi Jewish folklore, a golem is a humanoid being created out of mud or clay and animated through secret prayers. Its sole purpose is to defend the Jewish people against the immediate threat of violence. It is always a rabbi who makes a golem, and always in a time of crisis. But Len Bronstein is no rabbi—he’s a Brooklyn art teacher who steals a large quantity of clay from his school, gets extremely stoned, and manages to bring his creation to life despite knowing little about Judaism and even less about golems. Unable to communicate with his nine-foot-six, four hundred-pound, Yiddish-speaking guest, Len enlists a bodega clerk and ex-Hasid named Miri Apfelbaum to translate. Eventually, The Golem learns English by binge-watching Curb Your Enthusiasm after ingesting a massive amount of LSD and reveals that he is a creature with an ancestral memory; he recalls every previous iteration of himself, making The Golem a repository of Jewish history and trauma. He demands to know what crisis has prompted his re-creation and whom must he destroy. When Miri shows him a video of white nationalists marching and chanting “Jews will not replace us,” the answer becomes clear. The Golem of Brooklyn is an epic romp through Jewish history and the American present that wrestles with the deepest questions of our humanity—the conflicts between faith and skepticism, tribalism and interdependence, and vengeance and healing.

This book was released on 2017-01-26 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The doctorial thesis argues that the term Subcreation with its revised and broadened definition, in part differing from J.R.R. Tolkien's original term sub-creation, may be used for the discussion of the making of fictional worlds in literary discourse. The successful conception of a fictional world depends on the reader's willing suspension of disbelief. This depends both on the author and his skilled composition of the world and all its aspects, as well as on the reader's acceptance of this invented fictional world. The author needs to create a narrative with an inner consistency, which is crucial to achieving the effect of the reader's immersion in the fictional world. The fundamental aspects that an author needs to realize to achieve successful Subcreation have been structured into and analysed in four categories: Language and Linguistic Variation, Physiopoeia, Anthropoeia and Mythopoeia. Furthermore, this thesis shows that, as contemporary examples of fantastic literature, both Tad Williams's and Terry Pratchett's fictional worlds are successfully created through the realization of these aspects of Subcreation. Apart from commenting on the success of the subcreative process, this thesis also remarks upon the cultural influences both authors include in their writings. While both may be considered Anglophone in a general categorization, Pratchett's Discworld retains a feeling of 'Britishness' that is not to be found in Williams's Otherland. The thesis proposes several approaches to Subcreation that may be studied subsequently. So, for example, it may be possible to determine the success of an author's Subcreation by collecting empirical data. Apart from literary works this field of studies may also include other media.

Would she never stop paying for her mistakes?"Diana Atestesso has lost her daughter, her livelihood, and her peace of mind to her abusive ex-husband, Clay. Now she returns to the old Victorian mansion in the mountains where she was raised through a traumatic childhood, only to find that her ex is stalking her still. Book excerpt: It is the age of blood. The human tribes scatter and are ever at each other's throats. The elves seclude themselves blissfully in the east, and the dwarves hide in the mountains where they drink their days away and ignore the world outside. The harsh life of the barbarian tribes will only soon get worse, however. As they war against one another they will be easy to conquer. The Demon King knows this and sets his eyes on them. Having recently conquered the orcs of Gorka he will use the hordes to capture Diamic and turn it into the tenth plane of Hell. Only one man can unite the people of Diamic and force back the threat of the Demon King and his orc armies...but not merely by brute strength but through wit, intellect, and by quenching the flames of hate with the power of love, not known to most barbarians. Only this is certain: it will be a war of ages, it will be an Epic War. It will end the Age of Blood but will it be an Age of Truth, or an Age of Damnation they will see?
