Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional philosophy places a singular emphasis on tragedy, acting under the assumption that tragedy is more profound than comedy. Gelven argues that comedy deserves equal if not greater attention from philosophy. Through the interpretative readings and concrete analysis of three classical works, Gelven shows that comedy provides an access to truth unavailable by any other means. Silvius in Shakespeares's As You Like It, Cherubino in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, and Lord Goring in Wilde's An Ideal Husband are examined in terms of why and how they are comic, along with how and why they are seen both as fools and yet as graced. Gelven finds that in revealing the spirit of graced folly, comedy teaches us about our own essence, the fundamental nature of our finitude. This will undoubtedly be of considerable importance not only to philosophical aestheticians or literary critics, but also for those seeking to understand the nature of truth itself.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our intellectual context is very complicated. There are competing pedagogues, divergent epistemological agendas, and flawed participants. The mind is a warzone. The Old Testament depicts a battlefield between the sinful mind and God’s revelation. Today, many Christians minimize the intellect and do not recognize how sin impacts thinking. Many do not know how to love God with the mind. Many suffer from anti-intellectual inertia. They think like consumers shopping for knowledge, learning formats, and instructors that conform to their buying preferences. They prefer junk food for their minds. They often fulfill the role assigned to them by the world—intellectual simplicity, private religiosity, and subjective spirituality. By comprehensively examining Old Testament teaching concerning the mind, this book promotes a spirituality that puts thinking in its proper place. It explains what God requires intellectually of his vice-regents. It shows that our world is a labyrinth, but that God’s revelation is our reliable guide. This book motivates readers to strive for mental piety, wisdom, and intellectual development, for the glory of God and the fulfillment of our mandate on earth. Readers will learn from their ancient brethren how to better steward their minds.

Since my colleagues and I have long thought of our concepts and practices as broad and general?as potentially applicable beyond our clinical sphere of psychotherapy?it is very satisfying to see this solid and skillful extension of our work into the very wide and important field of pastoral care."? George Guthrie leads readers through the intricacies of literary structure, word meanings, cultural backdrop, and theological proclamation, offering insights applicable to modern ministry contexts. As with all BECNT volumes, this commentary features the author's detailed interaction with the Greek text; extensive research; thoughtful, chapter-by-chapter exegesis; and an acclaimed, user-friendly design. It admirably achieves the dual aims of the series--academic sophistication with pastoral sensitivity and accessibility--making it a useful tool for pastors, church leaders, students, and teachers.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a provocatively, outrageously assertive exposure of fools in their not infrequently bizarre manifestations, the object being to leave no halfwits behind. It explores the world of the fool from many perspectives, including Engines of Limited Cognition: Dumb Bells, Dumb Clucks and Dumb Waiters; Imprudence and Its Imbecilic Implications; Fools, Eccentrics & Sons of Momus; and Idiotic Opportunities: Putting Fools to Work. This is not to infer (or even hint) that either the author or his readership is in any demonstrable sense of the word foolish, now or at any other time. After all, no fool would write a book like this, and no fool would read it. Precisely who does read it is a discretely personal decision we leave to those gifted with more than ordinarily inquiring minds. Indeed, those who elect to come along for the ride are likely to find their minds piqued, tickled and enriched by this tour de farce. True to form, Reed illustrates Ambrose Bierce's definition of educational -- 'that which discloses to the wise and disguises from the fools their lack of understanding.' Abundantly documented, endlessly subtle, hopelessly eccentric and deadly funny, the book blends history, sociology, literature, philosophy, etymology and even theology, all with a good laugh.

Also, history proves beyond a shadow of doubt of many elements and people that has been working against black people. The drugs, the violence ,against each other. The dis-respect by themselves and society have demonstrated to our black women. The destruction of the black families here in America. The self-hatred that is being demonstrated amongst and against ourselves, wives, and children. How religions and politics have failed us and the so-called leaders, have failed our people. To understand what is happening in these trying times and how we should be working collectively together, in order to survive this Pandemic and future Pandemics that we may encounter. This book covers even more, and I suggest every reader enjoy this book because there is great information that is not being revealed to humanity. So, everyone sit back and enjoy yourself.

Book excerpt: Devils Ultimate Claim is a gripping tale about good and evil, seen from a new perspective, making the reader think on a new platform. It’s filled with clues to attain divinity, several amusing, unheard and serious historical characters uniquely adjusted with the unnoticed story of real-world in a set beyond anyone’s wildest imaginations. After getting enlightened in deep meditation, the author of this book realized that his extraordinary experience of attaining divinity explained him to understand the entirety of creation, which can be mathematically described by reversing Einstein’s theory of E=mc2. By doing so, it achieves the same climax of an ‘ultimate zero,’ which is known as the door to divinity. This excitement had some flows too. It was hard to let the scientific community notice his rarest findings. They seldom relating their findings with such an intuitive finding and scarcely promoting further research in such a contentious subject. So, the author caught a different route to bring his findings in the public domain, ~write the truth as a fiction story or making a feature film on such a touchy topic, to step up toward spreading public awareness on divinity. Only because the writer was publicly claiming to have discovered the scientific method of attaining divinity, guaranteeing secure salvation to all, the devil gets attracted and virtually hacks him in the Pentagon for liberating himself from his consequential hell-trap of WW2. While luring and forcing him to reveal this method of free salvation, ghost revealed several unknown facts about this world and beyond but in the end, on failing to know anything out from the determined author, he brutally killed him. Since it was a virtual dream, so the author awakes home with an enhanced vision and power to access and express the entire incident like a divine wish, which he dreamt of the ghost, so that this ultimate method of glimpsing divinity can come in the public domain. The Ghost of Hitler, the Pentagon, his death experience is all fictitious but the revealing on divinity, which the writer overwhelmingly claimed, is “TRUE” and, which is elaborated in such a most significant unmatching sarcasm of the modern time. What was that secret revealing which is the reverse order of Albert Einstein’s theory of E=mc2, and which paves a new field of research for its further mathematical explanation, which one can testify by glimpsing divinity in his/her lifetime? The writer has indicated its method moderately in the book, but reserved its full secret for the researchers and the Movie producers, to predominantly targeting this high-profile topic.

Book excerpt: To save her girlfriend,a dragon slayer and blacksmith enters a nightmare realm and confronts a long-dead killer in this “endlessly entertaining” novel (Barb and J. C. Hendee, authors of the Noble Dead saga). Magic has a cost. Blacksmith and dragon slayer Sarah Beauhall is about to find out just how high. Her lover, Katie Cornett, trying to find her long-missing parents, has been dabbling with forces beyond her reckoning—and unleashed a cataclysmic shockwave of magic that ripples throughout the Pacific Northwest while her spirit is blasted from her body and flung into a world of nightmares and monsters. As Katie’s coma deepens and her chances of survival fade, Sarah’s spirit must make a journey of its own through a world of crystalline eaters and malevolent spirits who exist only to hunt and to consume. Night after night Sarah delves beyond the hidden paths, going into the wild lands and lost worlds far beyond the great sea of dreams. When the spirit of a long-dead murderer—known only as the Bowler Hat man—begins gathering an army in the forgotten lands, Sarah discovers that more than eaters and feeders pursue her… “An unforgettable heroine. . . . Pitts delivers adventures that are humorous, hair-raising, and simultaneously full of heart.” —A. M. Dellamonica, author of Child of a Hidden Sea “Dark urban fantasy with some clever touches.” —Kirkus Reviews “It’s about time we had a fantasy heroine like Sarah Beauhall!” —Kay Kenyon, author of the Dark Talents series
